Soulja - Those are just beautiful!!! Love the bright colors!

Are yours in partial shaded areas? I was wondering if your blooms stay nice for most of the day?

Louisville, KY

Thanks so much Becky. Mine are all grown inside my cabin studio, under 1000 watt HPS lights and in front of windows. This is the first time they've been outside. so yes generally they're open for most of the day. They just now closed & dropped, or drooped, though under the weight of the rain. I'm sure they love it.

just a small section of new and newers with the light shut down because you can't take pictures with that crazy yellow orange glare.

Soulja, all your MGs are soooo pretty. You do a fantastic job growing them. : )

Louisville, KY

Thanks Lucy! Where's yours? You promised a picture.

South/Central, FL(Zone 9a)

Hang on, let me go see if any are blooming today.

Louisville, KY

do it!

South/Central, FL(Zone 9a)

The wind is blowing them like crazy today. I hope they are good enuff to see.

This first one is about 25 years old or older. It comes back every year and doesn't make seeds, and stays open most of the day. I forgot what it's called. Ron told me one time, but I will have to go back through my dmails and find out what he said.

Thumbnail by BlueGlancer
South/Central, FL(Zone 9a)

The first one is a Ipomoea indica.

This one is the Gypsy Bride (ipomoea purpurea)

Couldn't get a close shot, that wasn't blurred by the wind.

Thumbnail by BlueGlancer

And this one is unknown, I just saw it on the ground.

That's all for today.

See the light lines in the first one, and the dark lines in the 3rd one. Do you reckon the old morning glorys pollen had something to do with that one looking like that? I didn't have a morning glory that looked like that 3rd one, except that 1st one.

Strange, it never pollenates itself. Hmmm....

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Soulja, that light blue one is to die for. Can't tell if it's Blue Silk or something else.

Blue Glancer, yours are beautiful too. Love Gypsy Bride

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

OMG,
these wonderful pictures are so exiting yet so calming to look at.

I will up pot some of mine tomorrow ,seed some more.
No buds or blossoms yet :-( ...but I think I see tiny tiny buds on my moonflowers as of today.

Louisville, KY

yay patootie, where's yours? got any good stuff goin'?

That flower lit up the dark morning for sure!!! The photo didn't get the soft light whisper of pink on the throat. It's my favorite so far... well today... My label says Fuji light Blue, but looks very much like a photo from WillowWasp that said Mt Fuji pale purple. either way, I'd love to know the real Japanese name... (ron...

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Soulja, mine just planted so no blooms yet. I have a Pres Bush and Count
Dracula germinated. Planting more tomorrow.
Your Mt Fuji light blue aka Mt Fuji no sora. It positively glows.

Melbourne, FL

Rain this morning, and all the blooms were damaged....hopefully some more open tomorrow.

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

All of the flowers are looking great...

Soulja - The flower that you posted here
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4734489
Looks like "Fuji No Sora" as entered in the PlantFiles here
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/139202/

The youjiro "Chiaki" as entered in the PlantFiles here
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/137871/
can also produce similar looking flowers

Generally for any and all interested...

The PlantFiles of 'Mt.Fuji Pale Purple' was first entered as the result of a term applied by an ebay marketer when the correct Japanese Romaji names were not yet known to many ebayers and it is my perspective that the photo entered here
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/77108/
is likely to be either one of the youjiro like
"Chiaki"
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/137871/
that is not showing very distinct white rays along the main folds...

Western marketing names can be confounding if the terms do not reflect primary structures or features...the term 'picotee' which should refer to a color(!) is often misapplied to the Kikyo shaped(!) flowers and misleading terminology can consequently be confusing to those with intermediate levels of knowledge and most especially confusing for newbies trying to ascertain any objective 'rationale' involved regarding the consistent application of descriptive terms...
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=Ipomoea&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=picotee&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=cultivar&images_prefs=both&Search=Search

it is much more helpful to everyone(!) when entries are entered correctly initially as it is very difficult to subsequently have entries corrected...

There have been many light blue colored flowers that look like the photo here
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/137871/
being marketed as 'Blue Picotee' or as 'Light Blue Picotee"
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/141295/
and exactly where a youjiro with indistinct white rays leaves off and where a 'blue picotee' with lighter folds begins may be exacerbated by the progeny of undocumented crossings and 'fuzzy' labeling...

I would like to strongly suggest that sports and atypical colorations should not automatically be entered as representatives into the PlantFiles but would better serve the community by first being grown out for several generations and gathering input from the MG community before being entered with a 'new' name... atypical colors and structures can always be enthusiastically displayed in the Forums and in personal journals without confounding the PlantFiles...

Fuji Musume
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/171371/
can be a light blue that looks very similar to what is being called 'Blue Picotee'

The word "Fuji" when applied to flowers does not automatically refer to a bloom with white primary folds, but 'fuji' is very often used to describe anything that is considered to be 'big',considerable, outstanding et cetera...so there are JMG's described in Romaji that use the terms "Fuji" but have features other than very distinct white main folds,e.g.,
Fujigasume
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/84334/
Fuji Shibori
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/84503/

The Pale Purple photos here
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/86669/
have come out of the usually much darker colored "Fuji no Muraski" here
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/139460/
and Sakata has even used a lavender colored flower in their official webpage for "Fuji no Murasaki"
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=1700985

Just some some aspects to be considered...

TTY,...

Ron

P.S. photo attached is of some of the Sakata Fujis including a very lavender "Fuji no Murasaki" in the lower right...the original "Fuji no Mine" can be seen in the upper right where the midpetal is a fuchsia overlaying a strong blue which emerges near the petal crest producing a very striking contrast of colors...

The "Fuji no Mine" most prevalent no longer produces the striking contrast of the reddish fuchsia and the blue, but is more of a 'monotone' lacking the strong bi-colored visual zinger(!)

"Fuji no Mine"

so the blue one is either Fuji No Sora or Yojiro "Chiaki". More flowers on the vine will help. And what we consider Picotee are actually kikyo (saki?) and that connotes the shape. And Fuji means big & awesome like the Mountain, not necessarily white rays. think i got it.

Is the dusty red one labeled right as Yuuzuki Moon At Dusk? Fuji no Mine is awesome. Did yours turn out like that? seems a shame to threaten that species with extinction.

ps I got ahold of the one I wanted: Aomurasakehigesibori ~ ((( ooh can't wait.

as always, thanks ron. please pipe in whenever i make mistakes. I married a foreigner and i hate to get native names spelled or labeled or pronounced wrong.

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Yes,the light blue one that you posted is likely to be either Fuji no Sora or Chiaki...although when the usual white rays along the main folds are indistinct they can look just like the Blue Picotee...

The 2 photos that you posted here
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4723984
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4734492
look to be Yuuzuki as entered in the PF's here
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/153107/

another rosey/chocolate is the
Akatsuki no Yume
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/133764/
which currently has no photos in the entry...
Who will be the First(?!) to add a photo directly out of a sealed package(!)...

There are many MG's called Rose and Chocolate in Western terms
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/681709/

The "Fuji no MIne" I have gotten were the monotone fuchsia, but I did have actual photos of flowers that were posted on the web that were(!) showing the gaseous flaming fuchsia licking up at the bold blue near the crest of the petal...that hard drive fried, but I know that the intense bi-colored petals did (and hopefully still do) exist somewhere...

You haven't made any 'mistakes'...
I just thought I'd utilize the opportunity to address some similar flower types as you have posted and add in some perspectives I thought worthy of consideration regarding PlantFile entries...

Glad you got those higes...

TTY,...

Ron

I used the name Mount Fuji Pale Purple because that is what Cynda called it.

Kikyou. is it kikyou or kikyousaki or kikyoumamma? I know it's not picotee...

I got the blue kikyou from ebay. It's a mix pack and has red (pink) as well, But the pink one comes from a pack called (don't cringe ron) Picotee Red (also blue) from Livingston seeds and I just got 20 fresh seeds back from this plant. I don't remember where I bought them but I would be happy to share! just dmail me your address.
