Weatherman here said they are tracking a major storm for the 14th.....hope they are wrong...it is still a long ways out and of course they like to predict doom and gloom

I thought I woke up in the wrong state this morning. It was 55 degrees at 7:00 AM! Had to let the wood stove die down, it was actually hot in here! But then the temps started to rapidly fall and the wind kicked up. And it turned COLD! I guess that was April Fools-Michigan style.

Winston-Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

I completely forgot that its april fools today. I just bought a dozen pairs of atlas gloves. I cant wait to get em. They were 3.00 a pair. Not bad at all. I will need that many cus im gonna be plantin plants all dang spring, summer and fall!!!!

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

Gloria,

I am so sorry for your loss of Dawn. What a horrible ordeal to go through. I'm glad the perp is getting what he deserves. I think your planting a rose after her is a great way to memorialize her. New Dawn is such a beautiful rose as well. ((((((hugs))))))

Well, it was so windy today it almost blew me over. I drove down by the pond which is overflowing and I could see huge pike in my ditch swimming and jumping around. I sure hope they don't make their way over and into my pond. They will eat all of my fish up. Anybody want to come spear some pike in my ditch? :) I drove into Standish today and going through Omer I saw all the camps set up to do the succor fishing. They're having a big contest I guess and the biggest fish nets $750. Hey, for that much I might go throw my line in the water.

They had a good canned good stock up sale at Dollar General so I bought a bunch of canned soups and canned fruits. I then had to come home and finally clean out and organize my pantry. I'd been putting it off but I had to do it today before I could put all this stuff away. It's all neat and organized now. I bet it lasts for about five minutes. ha ha ha

I haven't even been out to the garage to check in on my phlox I have inside my cheapie greenhouse. I will go check on them tomorrow and if it isn't so windy I might pull it out of the garage for them to get more light.

Spring is here. THe stores are starting to get their bagged fertilizers/dirt etc. in. Won't be long before the plants arrive.

Happy gardening.

Gloria,
I am so sorry for your loss of Dawn. What a horrible thing to have to go through for so long! I hope the healing process can now be started!! To many *****%%$$#$(*CREEPS out there in the world! My DIL stepdad will be going to court soon for his sickness! I pray that they get what they have coming to them-prisoners hate child molesters-grrrrrr!

We did good at the casino this time made some $$$ and the kids scored big in the game room on a machine that hit the bonus for one of them and wouldnt stop giving out the tickets
between 3 kids they got 11,000.00 gameroom tickets. The gal finally figured out that the machine was paying one heck of a bonus!!! lol

I never did go in the pool or hot tub but the kids did and had a great time
It was raining so hard when we left to go to the casino and everything was flooded, then when we went to come home-snow and high winds, you could hardly walk!

Today the mailman just brough me 5 boxes of lilies(2 are for Julie) so im going to hit the shower and head to the gh to sort and plant!!! oh and sniff deeply the smell of DIRT and lilies!!! yahooooooooooooooooo!

WOW............spring has finally sprung. It was soooooooooooo nice outside today. Sun shining. Not real cold. Perfect weather. I pruned back my silver lace vine and did a little raking and hubby put down the fertilizer on the grass.

Pond is overflowing. Pike came up from the lake in the ditch to spawn and I think some slipped over into my pond. :( I bet they'll eat all my perch. Buggars. My phlox are all potted up and inside my cheapie greenhouse. I keep it inside the garage at night and bring it out during the day. So far so good. Won't be long till I can plant them in the dirt.

Have a great weekend everyone and get out and enjoy the weather.

Millington, MI(Zone 5b)

Well, I have been out quite a bit....discovering that most of my tulips and crocus are coming up! And so are the Crown Imperials! Amazing how a couple of warm sunny days just trigger the flowers!

All of my sedums appear to be fine-I bought a bunch at the end of the season in the fall on sale. I also bought four Hellenas Blush Euphorbia, but they look like they may be dead. The growth is all brittle.

And oh yes...the nasty Box Elder bugs are out in force. Ugh. I hate them so! they are everywhere out front.

I hope everyone gets a chance to be outside today!

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

What wonderful weather!!!
I raked the bank towards the lake on Friday and even saw a butterfly!
There were spikes of lilles and irises coming up all over.
On friday there was still 4-5" of snow on the level in the woods. Yesterday afternoon, there were just spots of snow (although some spots are really big)
We walked a different trail and one trail was completely clear on snow. It was wonderful!
It was so nice yesterday that we put the canoe in and headed up to the mouth of the river. The river was too fast to go upstream too far, but went into the turtle pond where we saw several turtles sunning themselves. (the lake still is covered with ice, but not for long)

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

Here are some of my spring favs.....Can you tell that they are smiling? I am have really been enjoying all the great weather.. Ive been raking, rewriting some of my markers.... What kind of pens does everyone use for there markers? Almost all of them were wiped clean. So befors I forgot what was there had to repost them.... Oh well have a great day. Ronna

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

A few years ago, I planted several and I only have the one coming up every year. Just one lone little yellow flower. My mom stopped by yesterday and I went to show here my one little flower and the high winds had blown all the little petals off.
Darn it.

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

Im so sorry cpartschick did you wanna scream??? Hey has anyone ever spread hay on there gardens??? I was thinking about doing it to keep the moisture in and was wondering how thick does it have to be??? Does it have to be the first cuttuing or what? I have questions does anyone know??? Ive heard it was great for the soil to after a while it kinda dissapears and mixes in the soil for good drainage. But was wondering about weeds that come along with the hay. Thanks for all suggetions... I bet it would look nice too. Good for the walking paths and stuff. Ronna

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

WEEDS for sure!! i covered my daylilies once for winter protection
the next spring i had all kinds of new weeds to deal with-i burnt the hay! :)

maybe some preen and hay would be good-it is good for the soil and it helps with moisture!
If i were to put it down for moisture- i think 2inch would be good!

cloudy and cool today!
yesterday spoiled me!

National City, MI(Zone 5a)

My tulips have some large leaves coming up, the crocus, and iris's are peeking out of the ground, but haven't seen hide nor hair of my daffodils as of yet, hope I didn't plant them in the wrong place, now i finally feel spring has sprung

Winston-Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

Well I thought it was spring.....But man is it ever cold and windy around here this morning.... BBRRRR. Took the dog for a very cold walk. Not very long either...wasnt quit dressed warm enough. But it is April in MI. My tulips and daffys are coming along very nicely!!!!! Big buds on the daffys. Can you see the smiles on my face???? My husband is upset with me I cut the clemitas back quit a bit but the fence was under stress it was so large.... It didnt blossom much and we need to fix the fence... Vines are his faves, I warned him.... Its an autumn some thing or other very pretty small white flowers. More for a part shade clemitas, it was very large.... Im going to make a wreath out of the vine I cut off. Sorry honey.... Did everyone order bulbs from the tulips and daffys co-op???? I did but had to edit the shipping cost went up a bit and man that can really be expensive... but a nice assortment of bulds they closed it pretty fast. Mustve been larger than expected not really sure why.... Was suppose to go thru the 25th I thought. Oh well, Have a great day. Ronna

Melvindale, MI(Zone 5a)

National City, MI(Zone 5a)

Gloria

Winston-Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

For being NC its not very warm today! It might freeze tonight! I thought this was the south?

The state is beautiful though. Red Buds, dogwoods, azalias and wisteria are blooming all over in the woods and along the sides of the roads and in everyones yards!

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Glad it is spring somewhere, LOL.
We are suppose to get it now. Even though it is really cold again this morning. I see little green things coming up all over.
The peeper frogs are singing, ducks and geese are fighting and nesting, birds are singing and courting.

I love the wildflowers in the woods. Most are still far off, but the Spring Beauty (which I have only found one and moved to the yard) is almost ready to bloom.

Most of the snow is gone in the woods. One swamp area still has about 4" of snow, and the ice on the trail will be there for weeks yet.

Seeing quite a bit of turkey sign. They are scratching all over. Seems the bobcats, raccoon, coyote and such are nesting right now. Haven't seen anything of them. If I find a turkey nest this year, I will post a picture. Kind of a cool thing to see.

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)
