My favorite iris from last spring

Oro Valley, AZ(Zone 9a)

I came across this photo today. I forgot I had taken it. This iris is ALL ABOUT SPRING.
A 2005 Frederick Kerr introduction,TB, 36" (91 cm), ML

S. lilac, yellow edge widening and becoming more gold at haft; style arms lilac, yellow edge; F. lilac, narrow yellow edge, wide gold hafts; beards golden orange; slight sweet fragrance. Temperence X 94-005A

As I reviewed the photo it reminded me that of all the new varieties I received the year prior - this one was my favorite

Do you have a favorite iris from last year - - that you'd like to share?

Wow Margie, that is aother one for the wish list next year. I really like the standards on it.
Here is a "new" one for me with maiden bloom last year. As you can see the stalk was too
crowded, but I believe it might have been weather related.Dance Gypsy by Lynn Markham,it
is a border bearded.

Probably weather related. It has great branching and is always in class. Marge will All About Spring go with your #l seedling on the other thread? Similar color, but you have such a ruffled flower.

Los Alamos, NM(Zone 5a)

Margie,
I think All About Spring is really lovely. I checked it out in plant files and it has no picture and no notes about its growth habits -- other than the ones from Kerr's web site. I hope you will add both to it.
Lately, as I make decisions for what to order next year, I am finding the plantfiles gardeners' notes really helpful. The pictures are great, too, because most growers only give you one.
The only pictures I have have already been posted, but I will see if any deserve as second post.

Los Alamos, NM(Zone 5a)

Okay, I have posted this one before, but I think it was one of my favorites from last year, Aardvark Lark. The colors are stunning, it bloomed the first year, which many don't in my climate and it is a real eye catcher. Many of my other favorites have been around a long time. Two of them are Dusky Challenger and Titan's Glory.

Tntigger, the variation in coloring DOES put on a 'dance' - - doesn't it!? The edges of those standards are hinting that they'd like to be gold someday! :-)

IrisMA....................ABSOLUTELY! I tried crossing seedling 1 with it last year, but sadly - - it didn't take. I hope to try again this year. Oh......... the possibilities!

Pajaritomt, "Aardvark Lark" is one of my favorites too! It stands out well from a distance. Yes, I do need to add the "All About Spring" photo to the plant files. I should do that before I forget. :-)

I'm partial to blues anyway but the brown and blue combo...I love it.

Los Alamos, NM(Zone 5a)

I am partial to blues with brown as well. I had never heard of Horned Owl before, but I really like it. I ordered American Maid this year, because of those colors.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

One of my favorites, SHINE ON THRU from Vincent Christopherson. A superb grower and fertile both ways.

jackieshar... Yes, Vincent does sell to the public. He's a great fun loving and generous man that I met at the Fort Worth Iris Society. He gave two Shine On Thru rhizomes to my wife the year they were introduced. They have flourshied and remain my favorite luminata. Here's his web site.

Thanks weegy12... glad you like it. Thanks for sharing Ocean Clouds. This could turn into a really fun thread.

Oro Valley, AZ(Zone 9a)

Jackie,.................... That is a lovely photo of a lovely iris. :-) One can see why it's still popular.

Louise......................."Horned Owl" ............. wow!! I love that tan/brown and lavender/blue color combination. I've never heard of or seen that variety before. I'm so glad to hear you grow it! Now THAT is gorgeous. "Ocean Clouds" is intriguing too................ I like the lighter and darker bands of blue on the falls.

Hi Zac ......................that has got to be the best photo of "Shine On Thru" I've seen. :-) It looks like it is lit up with inside lighting. that is what I love about luminatas- they look like they glow. I have some young seedlings from that one too. I should plant them into the ground and see how they turn out.

Here's another Christopherson beauty... LET'S BE FRIENDS

Margie... Thanks for the compliment. Shine On Thru is such an amazing flower it's easy to get a good photo.

Congratultions on the Shine on Thru Seedlings... can't wait to see them.

I have several from Shine On Thru that should bloom for the first time this spring. Crosses of Trick or Treat X Shine On Thru and Thornbird X Shine On Thru.

Notice that Shine On Thru has little nodes at the end of the beards. A potential for spage age seedlings. We'll see how that turns out with Trick or Treats flounces, and Thornbirds horns.

Zac....tell me about the ft worth iris society, that may be close enough that I could participate........next closest to me would be Ok City ....Ft Worth only about 75 miles from me

South Hamilton, MA

In The Buff is an intermediate bearded iris, some people on other threads have been asking about that class.

Pylesville, MD(Zone 6b)

I got a lot of Arilbreds and dwarfs last year but of the tall bearded this has to be my favorite
"Grape Harvest" tall stately just a great tough iris that makes the whole bed smell like ripe grapes

It's strange how descritive terms change. Demi-Deuil is registered as "feathered" one of the old descption for a plicata.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

jackieshar... here's a link to the Fort Worth Iris Society. They normally meet the first Thursday of each month at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden Center, 3220 Botanic Garden Boulevard.

Ruffled Ballet, Grape Harvest, In the Buff, Demi-Deuil, Let's Be Friends -- So many beauties! I really like the idea of seeing people's favorites. They are very different from the ones featured most prominently in iris catalogs.
Anita, I notice that Grape Harvest isn't even in Plant Files. I will put it in from the info in the AIS Iris Registry. I hope you will add your picture!
Jackie Shar -- I joined my local iris society after the National Convention last year, which is how I met them. I have really enjoyed the club and its activities. Boy, did I clean up at the local club's rhizome sale! I bet you would enjoy yours as well.

Oh my heavens Margie, that one is gorgeous. If it ever puts off babies I'll trade my 25 yr. old son for it. lol (not really, I'd have to add more to the deal I'm sure)

Anne

That's funny Anne! Yes it is a beauty, but everything Margie has is a beauty just like her!

South Hamilton, MA

I had to explain IBs on a NE gardening thread. If you want an IB description-they are from 16-27" tall, bloom before TBs Flower 3 X 5 ".
