Made in the Heart of the USA

PROHOE is a family owned business located in the heart of the USA.

Our business started small. We made a prototype hoe to show to relatives for Christmas 1990. They encouraged us to continue, and our business has continued to grow each year. Although we now have a more spacious building in the very rural town of Munden Kansas, we can honestly say that at first our business base was a vacant chicken house on our farm.

Even at first, when our production was very limited, our customers kept informing us that we had a great product. We never would have believed people would actually write letters telling us how much they like our hoes. We listened to the customers, and soon we began to add more models for specific applications. We now offer numerous models to meet most needs. Our newest models are the short handled hoes for those who like to get close to their work.

Other things didn't change however. Each Rogue hoe is still hand crafted. The grinding, welding and sharpening are all done by hand, and quality is still our most distinguishing characteristic. We still make all of our hoes from recycled agricultural disc blades. Not just beause it is an environmentally friendly thing to do, but also because it is the best tempered steel for the job. In fact, we feel confident that our Rogue field hoes are the strongest hoes made in the USA.

Rogue hoes by PROHOE are in use in gardens from Washington to Florida. Thousands are in use by cotton growners, seed corn producers, and sugar beet and grape producers throughout the United States and Canada.

We invite you to experience the pleasure of using a quality tool in your operation, and we look forward to serving you.

Thanks,
Loren & Judy Kisby

i have a small hand one like that, i havent used it to much!

I call my mantis tiller-my electric hoe, she gets pretty close to the plants
I also cheated and used roundup last yr on the weeds! :)

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

You know I've wondered about those Mantis tillers. Don't they chop up your earthworms? I hate to disturb the soil too much because it brings up more weed seeds. That is why I like this slicing hoe. It sets flat on the ground and just slices the weeds up back and forth. I would love to try one of those tillers though. My problem is I plant my stuff too close together. It's my biggest fault in gardening. Everything looks far apart and then they go and grow. :) The good part about being close is the plants shade the soil so it retains the moisture better. I just need to get rid of my big butt that gets in the way when I'm trying to slide in between my plants and harvest stuff. :)

Brenda

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Loon: I agree with every sentence in your post -- I could have written it myself (other than the stuff about your hoe, which I haven't tried)!

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

I read about the new casino in the paper last night and they said there are no coin machines. The machines take only paper or plastic. Is that true?
I think the old insert the nickle, pull the lever was more fun. Are people that anxious to loose thier money quicker?
I used to like a good quarter machine, but when you had to put in 5 of them at a time, it got too pricey for me. (I am such a party animal, lol)
I was surprised to see the 50' temp in the forcast. Somehow we will pay later. Seems last Jan was warm like that and we got hit hard in Feb and March. I thought we would never see spring.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

yes it paper-someday they all will be paper no coins!!!
Silly people lining up to say good bye to their money!!!
I never gamble-i like my $$

My son is a financial supervisor -he wears a suit now!! He works 3rd shift

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

Well, I'm glad to learn the casino doesn't use coin. I was going to haul in all my spare change I've been saving for years. I think I would be reluctant to put a credit card into a machine or even dollar bills. It just SEEMS like you're spending less if you put ten times in or four quarters or pennies etc. I like my dollars. ha ha ha I'd like to go see it at least once though but will wait for the crowds to thin out or go at night since it's open 24/7.

Hummmmmmmmmmm financial supervisor eh? Does he supervise how everyone is spending their money. ha ha ha I'm glad he's doing so well and wearing a suit now. I think there will always be a market for the gaming industry. People never stop dreaming of getting rich quick. I wonder what their biggest winner has been so far or if they have big jackpots. Any chance they'll have Bingo sometime?

I hope we don't get flooding with the big warmup. The ground is frozen and if we get those rainstorms they're predicting and the ground can't take the water where will it go? My ditches by the road are half full already or better.

Brenda

Hastings, MI(Zone 5b)

Thats a hula hoe! I have one too and it works great!

I bought a weed puller concoction from Lehmans, and its more trouble than
its worth to use it. Maybe I am trying to figure it out too much:?

This year I want a backpack weed burner. Yes indeedy~

Burn Baby Burn
The area along the road is so icky looking. It really needs some
loving care.

Yes, Dick Clark was sufferable to watch. He looks great though!
At least he wants to be out there in the thick of it. Great!

Big thaw this w/e and T-storms for Tuesday. My Mastiff Atti will
be crawling under my legs and shivering and moaning from the
thunder and lightning. Poor big dummy.

Our newest grandchild coming today for a visit with us. His name
is Blake, and he is two weeks old now. I am making a chuck
rolled roast in the slow cooker, soft pretzels, and rolls. Lou will
make a salad and they are bringing a carrot cake for my DH
birthday tomorrow. with cream cheese icing. faint.

Have a great new year everyone.
My resolution is to plant every plant I get into a pot if it is small
and to nourish it till it is big and strong enough to put into the
dirt here at the farm.

Regards,
sheri

Hello to You All in Mich.!!
Hey about the Mantis or any small tiller. Be careful to change the filter in the carburetor. I bought the Mantis and did some tilling in the dry, dry days of late summer. I did not change the filter and i guess the dry dirt kicking up clogged the filter after only a few passes!! It died. The repair man said the motor was trying to suck in air and could not as the filter was blocked with a fine dust!!! I had just bought it and my warranty was no good because they deemed it my fault!! Well true it WAS my fault for not changing it but after so short a time I was not happy. I told Mantis they needed a large WARNING!! I knew to change it every season or so but not every few passes depending on how much DUST like dirt particles kicked up on the engine. Well I did not buy that one again. And I will almost never till in DRY conditions!! Allot of women who do not have engine experience would or could make the same mistake. I did buy a Homelight for half the price and i am more careful about WHEN I use it. I also have 2 replacement filters on hand at all times!!
Hey are you looking at the new slew of catalogues?? What do you think of Tony Advents cover on Plant Delights?? He is something else!! I don't know any other catalogue proprietor who mixes Politics with goods and with such abandon!! I am really enjoying the cold weather reading material. It always helps me plan my floral displays. What about all of You??
Julie

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Jaz- thanks for the heads up on the tiller. I've never changed a filter in my life, so I need to ask DH to give me a lesson in it.

I'm still waiting for my Parks catalong- I love looking through that. I received Plant Del. for several years, but never bought anything, so I doubt if I will get one this year... They were a stitch to look through though!

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)

I clean my filter every time I use my tiller orders from head quarters LOL

I only get Jungs Mi Bulb and spring hill I wish I did get others I'd love it

Rain and thunder! Heavy Fog till Noon
staying in making soup-Veggie soup!!
Had one kid home this weekend with the flu-he wanted to stay home today since he got riped off of his weekend! kidz!

daylily seeds are growing and more sprouting everyday
i cant wait to start my mators too!!! need more seed starter!

well im off to take down the tree!!!

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Is this winter??? Where's the snow. We're supposed to have rain showers/storms tonight. I am chilled to the bone right now. Guess I will need to bring in some dirt and play with some seeds too...

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Good day to stay inside a read a book.
We had some friends up for the weekend and they brought me a beautiful lounge set. It is very chic and very soft and comfy. I may never get dressed again!

So you know what I am wearing today. I was in the basement and I heard thumping, thought someone was at the door. Went up the stairs and no one there. mmmm, so I go back down, I hear thumping again. Took me three times to figure out that it was thunder!

Wouldn't be so bad, but I had hurt my knee and am hobbling. It was my "good" knee, so that of course flaired up the bad knee and the heel spur. Went to the Dr this morning and he said I was falling apart. (thanks Doc) But I am on my way to mending. Too young for that walker that is on sale at Pamida.
But am missing my daily walk in the woods. Alot. He said I should be better in a couple of days, but I needed to put the feet up. sigh, it is hard not to do stuff. So, I got out the knitting.

Wow is it pouring rain. Crazy weather.

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

It has been raining off and on all day here. It's so foggy and cloudy and yuck. The snow is just about all gone. There is just a little slip of white here and there. THere are giant puddles all over the fields and the trenches are filled with water. It is kind of nice to get rid of all the dirty snow to make room for fresh new snow. :) I got out this morning in shirtsleeves only and picked up all the dog poo in the yard. Juliet is always a good girl to poo on the walkway where I can scoop it up daily. Joey likes to run far away and poop where you can't see him so I have to hunt down his "gifts". The rabbit poo is just an extra gift and since it's small and round it falls through the pooper scooper. :)

Hubby has a bad cold so he ordered tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for supper. Easy enough. Ran into my daughter in law and grandbaby at the local IGA so I took them out to lunch. What a nice break. I love spending time with the baby. She seems so happy to see me and hollers clear across the store, "Ga ga, ga ga". That means grandma. :) My daughter in law starts Delta college tomorrow. She's going full time on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I'll be babysitting on the days my son doesn't have plumbing jobs or on Thursday nights when he goes to firefighting classes.

Got my special cuke seeds from Stokes in the mail today. I can't wait to grow them. They are the new baby cukes the size of your fingers that have thin skins that don't need peeling and they're seedless.

The deer have been eating my fall display of pumpkins. :) I'm glad. The hunters have quit feeding them and they're still hungry. I might try to start some vines just for them by the woods to see how it goes.

Take care and stay dry!!

Brenda

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Gloomy is right, but still have a couple inches of snow here. Sure is warm out though.
When I was at the pharmacy a man was waiting too and said that he had big spots with no snow in his yard and the moles had already started working. There were fresh mounds of dirt all over. "Da warm wetter musta woke 'em up" he said.

I know much of our ground is not yet frozen. Even on the coldest days the quads would break through and find mud underneath.

Sure sounds like everyone is enjoying the grandkids. Those kids are esp lucky to have such caring grandparents. I am a believer that kids cannot have too much attention. (too many things or money yes, but never too much time with parents and grandparents)

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

No snow here but the piles we made clearing the driveway-they say more rain
warm for tomorrow and then back to the 30s but the days are growing!!! :)

did you see my post about the roses everyone!!??
there is a co-op with a Michigan based company
I got some really nice ones last yr from them!

Yes my son and his family will be moving in next month, they are so excited.
Little do they know how much work i have planed for them now mwhaaaaaaaaaaa!
we will have to build a new bridge to join the 2 properties again. The old bridge has long since passed away. There is a drain that runs between us, the county is suppose to be going to dig it, so will wait and see how that goes-may build bridge before they ever get to cleaning it!

soup done and delicious, think i may make grilled cheese to go with it!!!

this is the new neighbors-if all goes well! it should!

How nice Dori that your kids are moving in next door! I bet the little ones will love being able to run over to 'grammies' for some hugs and cookies!! Is this the son who works at the casino? Will you be babysitting?

Yes, I went to look and posted in the rose co-op. The roses I'm interested in are pretty common so I think I might do better just picking them up at Home Depot or somewhere. The shipping would kill me on 12-15 roses I think. Would they be shipping them in soil/container or bare root or do you know?

Brenda

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

they were bare root -my choice and they all grew beautifully
but you can get them with soil and maybe even the pots=not really sure
They had buds on them when i got them! :)

yes thats the casino son(gary) and family my other son
Teig is out in Vegas at the bellagio dealing poker

I babysit the babies 3days a week now as the mom(brandi) works
at Joanne fabric in essexville and dad is a third shift casino guy!

DH got some garlic Italian bread to dip in the soup so no sandwiches needed

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

well almost all of our snow is gone also. and i am not crying!!!! its sure is a nice break from the cold bitter winds weve been having.. my son who is in the army in georgia called to gloat about how warm it is down there, was very surprised to hear it was almost 70 degrees on the 7th of january. he said it was almost 80 there. well we knoe being michiganderans the warm weathewr will not last long tommorrow it is suppose to be only in the low 30's boohoo. its so nice going outside and not being bundled up... well i cleaned up the back yard from the dog. that was pretty gross. have a great warm weather day:) Ronna

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

I guess it is nice to be able to clean up after the dog this early. Some years it is months worth in the spring.
I am lucky, our dog likes to go in the woods under a bush or tree. Being that he weighs amost a hundred pounds, that is alot of fertilizer I do not have to deal with.
We lost a bunch of snow yesterday with the heavy rain. I am seeing about half grass, half snow covered in the yard, the woods are still white, but slushy and the trails are slick wet ice. Sure feels and looks like spring out there. Kind of a mean trick of mother nature.

Hastings, MI(Zone 5b)

Quoting:
"Da warm wetter musta woke 'em up" he said.

I haven't heard something so funny since I don't know when,
I was wondering what in the hail were those mounds
of dirt all over my lawn? Now, I know.

Has anyone seen that advertisement on tv for the mole exploder?
I want one!!!!!!!!!!!!! To me it seems you put this wand down their
hole, and KABLOOEY POW BAM A RAMA, smoke and puffs of
dirt all along their runways and dens come roaring up through the
holes and runways. I need that. My farm is going to go down the
holes to China if I don't get that.

That will be my first boughten item this year, beside the flame thrower
for my weeds. We bought Napalm this year to start our woodstove
with and it's a blessing. Thank God for Napalm. LOL

My chickens are all over the farm today, picking at the lawns and
grasses. They are happily occupied, but not for long...this is Michigan!

Regards to everyone
sheri

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Ha, we do use a blow torch to start our woodstove. But I keep it going pretty good. A couple dry sticks and it is ok, after it burns down too much.
Never heard of that mole thing. They can get bad. We used to use a trap, but that thing would trip and no mole 90% of the time. A friend told us about the spring trap. It is really hard to set, but will get a mole about 90% of the time when it is tripped.
We got the one that was making trouble last year. There are many in the woods, but I don't care. I do think that new mole zapper would be far more fullfilling. (in a slighty mean and nasty way)

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)

Good morning !! WOW is it windy out did any one eles loose power yesterday we did here for about 5 hrs good thing it was warm out LOL
everyone have a good day
Gloria

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Hey, early bird! Sorry you lost power. That is always a challenge. We are ok here, but yes, it is very windy. Cooler too.
Back to winter I am sure.

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

im sorry you lost power. we didnt but it is starting to get widy probably should take the dog for a wakl before it gets to bad. and then its off to work. well are we back to winter??? sure hope not to bad. we took max for a walk last night and could not believe how high the kalamazoo river is wow it is flowing so fast!!! ive lived in plainwell for 13 years and have never seen it up so high. well see what happens. have a great wednesday everyone . Ronna

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Yesterday we had the windows and doors open getting some fresh air in this house before we have to close it all up again!!! The winds were horrible all night long.
Yes the water levels are running high right now around here too!

Gloria glad you lost power on a warm day not a below zero day! but its no fun even when its warm! I had to bail the sump pump last yr on a day that was a lil chillier and it was hard work trying to stay ahead of the sump pump-can you say Laura Engels or lil house!! I called hubby and was not happy. we did borrow a generator-what a chore! we now have 2 generators(dh found one in a dumpster this fall-after hooking wires together it worked-even had a tank of gas!)

I have a bad head/chest cold now-ugggg
just reheated some soup and i think im going to kick back and watch a movie
my seed propagation mat should arrive this week-then i will get down and dirty!!!! lol

stay warm n think spring
im tossing the idea of a get together here again this spring!! just tossing!!!!!

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

i know i had the doors open also it sure did feel nice... fresh air. :)

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

It's windy here too. I want to run out and do a good poopie scoopie before we get more snow. I kind of like this mid winter thaw. I get to clean up the yard and get rid of the dirty snow and the melt off is gradual rather than trying to get the ground to take down so much at the end of winter. I'm glad for all the preciptation. I hope it helps bring the lake levels back up. My pond isn't over flowing yet. It always does in the spring and somehow the big bad pike swim up my ditch and swim over into my pond and then eat my perch. :(

I am going to go out and spray deer and rabbit repellant on the roses and trees. The animals are hungry. My little bichons almost caught a rabbit in the yard the other night.

Dori, sorry to hear you've got a cold. My husband is just getting over his. I almost killed him with Thera Flu. I forgot that it has sugar in it and it ran his blood sugar up to 180! He's new to diabetes and I'm still trying to learn what is bad for him to ingest. I'm going to ask the pharmacist today for a list of all the sugar free over the counter meds and try to stick with that in hte future.

We had garden club yesterday complete with a rescheduled Christmas party. Ours was cancelled due it weather in December. I noticed in our newsletter Dave's Garden website was listed and chatted about. I haven't read it all yet. It is amazing how Dave's has grown in such a relatively short time. I remember when he first opened up this website.

Have a great day everyone

Brenda

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)
