Deb - Love the photos of Ben and the Butterflies! He is truly the boy who should be called the butterfly whisperer!

Melanie - What a great day today! You sure managed to photograph a LOT of butterflies! I was out working in the yard for a short while and saw sooooo many butterflies myself. I keep thinking to myself ... "The butterflies have arrived!" I saw a number of Monarchs cruising around my yard today, a beautiful Giant Swallowtail was all over my Wild Lime bushes, Peacocks everywhere, and Sulphurs flying in and out of my Cassia bushes. Plus I released a very large male Monarch and a male Queen. (That sounds funny ... a "male" Queen! Sounds like he came out of the closet! lol!)
Here's a photo of both males. Interesting comparison of the two on some Porterweed.
I want all this beautiful butterfly in my garden and in my country too. :o(
Great picture, thanks for sharing
~Sylvia
You have some of the same ones we have here, and others. Maybe you can research and plant the host and nectar plants that draw them.

If you find out what seeds you need, I bet someone on DG will have some to share.
Absolutely! Let us know Sylvia!!! :-)
Sylvia,
You might email your fellow countryman Hans Bister, http://www.pbase.com/bister/butterflies and ask him as well! We will give you whatever we have that will work.
LOL the male Queen is definitely a rockstar Becky!
Nice pics Mel!
Yesterday way so so windy you guys! There were quite a few butterflies though because it got up in the 70s here. I saw a Southern Dogface, but he was ripping around here so fast I didn't get a pic... I will go through my camera when I get back from taking Ben to school.
Meanwhile don't miss the Article of the Day on Brazilian Skipper.

It was a great article Deb, good job!!
Work calls.....retirement next year....ahh!
Deb, I really enjoyed your article! I recently traded for some cannas, so now I've got four different flavors for them to dine on. I'll be watching for them.
Cathy
Awesome article Deb!!! I really enjoyed it! :-)
Hi, all--just checking in--beautiful butterfly photos as usual and a little sad to hear that the butterfly season is waning for some of you, too...
Also, wondered if you all had heard that Melody and her husband were in a car accident a couple of days ago and is in quite a bit of pain in the hospital with two broken ankles and other injuries...
Here is the link with details if you hadn't heard already... http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/794752/
Didn't want to get off topic with this news but thought some may not have heard and would want to post a thought or prayer on the above thread...
Hi Sylvia~
I found a list of some host and nectar plants which are successful in Sweden:

The butterfly in your picture is known in English as "Common Blue" in Latin it's: Polyommatus icarus
Here is a super link that will tell you everything you need to know to monitor or raise them...
The main food plant on most sites is Bird's foot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus). Others used include Black Medick Medicago lupulina, Common Restharrow Ononis repens, White Clover Trifolium repens and Lesser Trefoil Trifolium dubium. Eggs are laid singly on young shoots of their food plants.

I have seeds for White Clover T. repens and some Lupine seeds you can try. Do you have trefoil growing in your garden?
Another with more pictures:

What a beautiful butterfly it is too!! I love the blues!
