Gita, I've never heard of anyone successfully keeping begonias like that... They can handle going semi-dormant (limited light, tiny amounts of water), but I don't think they can go fully dormant in a windowless basement.

gita- you're cracking me up. I am so cheap too. Spent 20 on pansies this fall. I hardly ever buy annuals. Have spent about 30 so far on Lowes clearance, but thats at 5-10 bucks a visit.
nothing ventured, nothing gained on the DWB experiment, right? like your amaryllis experiment.
