DAILY PICS. VOL 21

Brainerd, MN

Is that Sparrow slipping off the feeder or is it eating like a dog laying down by its dish?

They must do things a lot differently in New Jersey - I just can't see a frog being "caught" by a chickadee and yet, there it is to be seen!

Quoting:
Can you tell what the bird is that I posted before that I said was probably just an oddly markedGold Finch?

American Goldfinch.

Am I right in recollecting you mostly get Lesser Goldfinches on your feeders? That would explain the size difference, as American is a bit larger than Lesser (as the name suggests!!)

Okay, okay, the frog isn't real. Who can tell? See attached!

They all look like rocks to me! LOL

Marlton, NJ

Alot of them do look like their made out of stone or concrete. I see those types every summer here usually by or on the fence. :-)

And now for something completely different...

Thanks........ I thought they were a bit different, but just couldn't be sure. Yes on the lesser Gold Finch at the thistle feeder.

Autumn begins...and with it the first morning in five months I've spent without my breakfast companions.

I know you loving folks down south are ready for them.

Here's a final pic of a brief rest before heading your way.

dwdruley: I don't know when they leave MN, but they must be gone by now. A few weeks back I took in the Hummer and Oriole feeders to clean and put away. It was too early. That very same morning I had to put them back out again. Then the Orioles were really gone. The hummers kept showing up just until maybe a week ago...I couldn't believe they stayed so long.

I can't wait for them to come back.

I'll be dissapointed if my hummingbird does not return this winter. Thanks for fattening them up for the journey South.

Brainerd, MN

It was truly the pleasure of the northern folk! :)

Thanks sybil. :-)

Very nice pelletory!!! :)

All the hummers I have seen lately do seem to be fat. I have only seen three today. Here is a young male. He must be proud of finally getting his one ruby feather.

Beautiful cardinal! :)

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Yes, beautiful!
That little boy hummer looks like he cut himself shaving. :)

Brainerd, MN

That one little red feather - how funny. What a good catch!

Hummers are still here. I can't believe it. We've had one moderate freeze already - but then the temps bounced back into the 80s.

I refreshed the feeders this morning after seeing one doing battle with the bees.

Colder weather is on its way tonight so I imagine they will be taking off very soon.

I believe there is one type of hummer female that has a red dot like that. Are we sure this is a male? Great photo either way, though!

The Golden-crowned Sparrows have a very melancholy 3 note song.

Heres a page w/ more info including their song.

I have never seen so many young cardinals as this year, I have been here three years, and watch them from my window, I just love watching the young males changing colours to bright red.

Klamath River, CA

Thanks all.........I was right for a change.......goes to show you.....even a blind hog roots up an acorn once in awhile.
