How about we start doing daily threads of lilies now? That way it will be easy to see the new photos each day. Whoever posts first can start the thread. OK? Here is my first Lollipop of the season.

I love the deep red of Crimson Pixie. I have seen Monarchs here too. Strange this early.

Pasco, WA(Zone 6b)

Great idea, lincolnitess! Love the lollipop! I had planted it a long time ago and never got to see it bloom. Long story! Related to hubby. LOL

jmorth,
Your lily looks like my 'Kiss Me Kate' lily. I love it! Here's a shot of mine. And your crimson pixie's are beautiful!

I just came back from the garden and I sternly commended my Stargazer to open......soon. Oh, those lilies are all gorgeous!!!!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

That they are. I thought I'd seen Monarchs too, or that my eyes were deceiving me.

Pasco, WA(Zone 6b)

Yeah, jmorth, that photo with the butterfly is gorgeous!

I hope it's ok if I post these lilies here and ask for you guys to ID if you can, or at least point me in the right direction?
These are all from a "collection" I got from Brecks. They were described only as "border lilies". They're asiatics but dwarf, onl about 12" or so tall. The pink bloomed first, then the orange, then the peachy one, then red, then yellow. All within the past 10 days or so.

I sure would like to know the names of them all if I could. Please indulge me while I post them. :)
Thanks!

Deb, I will guess that they are a Pixie lily mix. You can see a photo of crimson Pixie above. I have a bright Yellow Pixie and an Orange Pixie that looks a lot like yours.

Susan: Thanks, that makes it simple for me! I love these "little" lilies.

You guys have me so jealous with your blooms that I found myself at a local nursery eyeing up blooming lilies and I almost bought one....whew! That was close. Lol!

Very Pretty, Rusty. Did you keep it in a pot all winter outside? I didn't know it would survive.

I'd like to know how to pot them and get them started early in the greenhouse.

Jasper Co., MO(Zone 6b)

No I got from CRIA RU... This is my first plant start here for new home. I find some more information about take care....

Cuyahoga Falls, OH

My first Asiatic lily opened yesterday. I think I traumatized them last fall, when I disturbed them while cleaning out the bed. I was digging up annuals that had been growing close by and when I turned over some of my lily bulbs I almost screamed. Now they didn't grow as tall this year, and the blooms are not as big as in past years. I sure hope they recover and go back to normal next year. Of course, even moreso, I hope I don't bother them this fall... I was careful not to put any annuals in too close proximity to them this spring. But, despite all the trauma I inflicted on them, they are still beautiful, I think.

It can overwintered in basement or garage.

Hi moonslight, welcome to DG and the Lily forum! Pretty lily you have there.

When I cut back my lilies in the Fall, I always leave about 3 - 4 inches of the old stem so I know where the bulbs are come Spring.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Moby,
I am renovating my lilies flower bed. Fall should be a good time to move them then? Oooh, I dread this chore since I planted some of my lilies 8" deep. All the digging must be done by hand, no trovels. Ugh!!!! There goes my nail polishes and hello to callus nuckles. lol

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Can't even use a hand trowel?

What's nail polish? lol

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Moby, you know, it's that stuff we wear on our toes.... Well, Steve probably doesn't.... ;) LOL

Diann

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Tehehehehe,
Forget about nail polish, how about the timing on moving my lilies? lol

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Yeah, fall is probably the time... What do you say, Moby, September?

Diann

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

You should wait until after your first hard frost. To dig up lily clumps, use a garden fork and dig up as you would potatoes.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

I usually do the moving as I cut the stalks down in early October, when I still know where they all are, roughly, that is .

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I cut mine in late, late Fall ~ October, November? I dunno, don't pay much attention. Sometimes a few are still green and I hack them down anyway. And I move them whenever I feel like it, as long as they're done blooming. Though Fall IS best.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

All great advices! But I'll choose beaker_ch's. Since going along with Mother Nature's calendar is a win win situation, I do believe. Consider the zones differences and all. Thank you, everyone. (Moby and Mag. the clever idea of keeping on a little bit of the then wilted stalks is terrific. I'll be sure to follow your lead there). You guys are the best!!!

Jasper Co., MO(Zone 6b)

How tall to cut the stalks?

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

After they arer done flowering, I cut just below the last bloom, so it doesn't put energy into the seed making (unless you are hoping to cross pollinate) and instead it will put energy into the bulb. Is that what your question was Rusty?
