Setting a date for the spring swap

Shenandoah Valley, VA

I can't get the search function to work so am having no luck finding the last spring swap discussion. Do you all want to go ahead and set a date? I was concerned about a planned June visit by my daughter and her family but she still doesn't have a date for her vacation.

Date has been set for Saturday, June 9.

And here's some info I posted in the earlier discussion thread:
WHAT TO DO FOR THE SWAP

You don't have to prearrange trades. Simply pot up what extra plants you have or bring seedlings you've started from seed and bring them to the swap. At the swap, people look over what you have, you look over what others have and make trades.

Bring whatever you have. It doesn't have to be exotic. You may think what you have is too common but I'll bet someone will want them.

You can use whatever will hold the plants and soil. I save pots from plants I've bought and then whatever else I can find - plastic and styrofoam cups, coffee or other tin cans, I've even used the disposable Rubbermaid food containers.

It's easy to put drain holes in the plastic pots if you heat an icepick or screwdriver over a flame. It will poke right through the plastic like butter. Coffee cans - hammer a nail into the bottom a few times. If you pot your plants the day before the swap, you probably won't need drain holes at all.

I DON'T HAVE TABLES so unless you want to just spread your plants out on the ground, bring a card table and everyone should bring their own folding lawn chairs.

I would strongly suggest that no one bring small children. I have two water garden ponds and I don't think it's really terrifically safe for little ones.

We'll have to make some kind of arrangements to have everyone bring a dish or hamburger or buns or plates or whatever for lunch. I have a grill we can use to grill burgers and hot dogs if you all would like. There isn't anyplace close by where you can grab a bite to eat. I'll do a separate thread for that much closer to the swap.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Hmmmm 06.02. is great, 06.09 is better! I should be home!

Richmond, VA

Id love to make it to the swap.I unfortunately cant.We have an older car.Its fairly reliable we however dont trust it to pull the hills. We're doing as little driving as possible.Trying to make it last till we can afford a newer one.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

I think Chantell, who lives in the Fredericksburg area, is planning on carpooling with some others. If you could make it up 95 to her area, you could perhaps ride with her.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

No problem-o

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

What Chantell said - there is room in either of our vehicles - she has a van, I have an SUV :

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

And we both have luggage racks...LOL...

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Hart, Both work for me, really looking forward to it.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

both OK for me, whose husband is in NC golfing even as we speak, the rat......right now I think I'll take our hotel 'points' and get myself a room for the weekend of the swap, all by myself, and see if they even notice I'm gone ; ^)

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Sally, there are some really nice B&Bs up here. A bunch of chain hotels and motels too but the B&Bs are wonderful.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Hart: Both dates (June 2 and 9) work for me.

Are the B&B's pricey or are there any inexpensive ones?

Yippie!!! It is getting close. I can't wait. Fun, fun, fun. Either date is okay with me. See ya'll there!!!

Happy, I'll check around and see. The only time I called any to get a price, it was for a pretty well off friend who wanted the room with the jacuzzi, etc. at a local B&B. That one was a little over $100 a night but was I'm sure far more expensive than the other rooms.

Charlottesville, VA

I'd love to come, but can only make it on the 9th. I'm also not sure how to get bqck to this thread.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Clee, look at the top and click where it says "watch this thread" and you'll be notified any time there are new posts in this thread. Is that what you mean?

If you clicked from another page, you can always find it by clicking on the Mid Atlantic Forum.

Happy, I posted a bunch of info on B&Bs but put it in a separate thread.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Come on, y'all. I need input. Should we set it for June 9 so Clee can attend? Or is June 2 better for most of you? Either date is fine for me.

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

my two cents - I might be able to make it on the 9th - no can do for the 2nd with our open house that weekend.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi,
I say since two people already can come on the 9th and not the 2nd we go for that... allot dont seem to be answering so for the ones that have two say the 9th so I make it 3 for the 9th... Just my 2 penny's worth :-)
Susan

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

The 9th might be more likely for me also, although the 2nd would work if we're in town (iffy, but no definite plan there).

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

I would think either date should be fine - at least by me. My DD's graduation is on a TH so I'm good either way!!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Susan made a good point, so I would say 9th too.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Well, doesn't look like anybody else is rushing to say June 9 is awful.

Okay, the official date for the swap is June 9. Cast in stone. LOL I'll post a lot more info later.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH we have a date :-)
Susan

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

It's on my calendar.... :-)

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

mine 4 - cute chantell

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I put the date on my calendar too.

Crozet, VA

Yippie!!!! Will be there with bells on my toes.

Ruby

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

K - I'll be there :)

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

I'm a coming...LOL so is the hubby if that is ok? I wont have much to give by the way of swaps but I am still going to come.. :-)
Susan

Crozet, VA

Yippie!!! I am really looking forward to this!!! I especially want to meet you folks face to face after spending so much of my winter with you all in my heart.

At moment I am not sure what all I am bringing. I do know that we will have ten or more day lillies. Will have to see what I have an abundance of during that week.

Till then.....

Ruby

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi! I'm also a Virginia gardener and I would love to attend this swap (Chantell invited me over to this thread) Where will it be and what do I need to bring to join in?

Thanks for the invite Chantell! Hope nobody else minds...

Karen

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

The more the merrier! It'll be at Hart's place, and I think any kind of plant (divisions, seedlings cuttings, etc.) is fair game... I think she said something about doing a thread for have/want lists when we get closer to the date.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Susan, of course your can bring your hubby. There's fishing real close by too if he'd rather go fishing and all kinds of hiking trails in the forest.

BTW, some of you thinking about coming up and staying overnight in the valley might want to know there are campgrounds in the national forest too down the road about, oh, maybe 8-10 miles. There are even trails for four-wheeler and mountain bike riding if he wants to bring his ATV or bike.

Welcome to our little corner of DG, Karen. Just bring whatever you have extras of. At the swap last year, I had things I only took a little bit of because I thought nobody would want them, like the apple mint I have. Everybody went nuts for the mint and some of the other things that are so common here I don't think of them as anything special. To somebody else, they were special.

Critter that haves/wants list is around somewhere. I'll find it and bump it up.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Wow! I can't wait to get in on this! Gonna get some seeds started this weekend!

:-)
