Nobody wants to know this-so don't read

Ooo, I'd like to see those antennae! Bubble-blowing antennae could be fun! Might be a bit messy though/

We used plastic coated wire bent into several shapes & a special home-made bubble solution for years. Did you know a bubble can come out square and turn round after it breaks free from the blower? Some of the bubbles we make are more than a foot across and sail away for 50+ feet before they break! The Bubble solution was a secret I stole from the Science Station here in town...

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

Well, it's no longer a secret then is it. Sure wish you'd share. We wouldn't tell anyone else, promise.

Sometimes you get really bad bottles of bubble solution. I .think the last one I bought didn't do anything but make a mess.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

My good ol' stand-by recipe is 1 cup Joy to 1 gallon of water. (plus the secret ingredient is a 2 oz. bottle of glycerin from the pharmacy)

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Okay--- 1/2 cup dish detergent (Joy or other good brand)
5 cups water
2 tablespoons white corn syrup

Shake well in a milk jug and leave closed over night. STRONG bubbles & cheap to make! Beats the heck out of commercial brands. I have big bubble wands in the shapes of circles, triagles, hearts & squares. You can't blow them--you just sweep them thru the air to make a 4 foot long bubble. Kids & adults love it. Maybe we'll have a "bubble station" in for the Iowa Round Up.

Thanks for sharing your secret bubbles.

Hey, what are friends for? Besides, when you are dumb enogh to have TWO 14 member Girl Scout troops at the same time, you need SOMETHING to amuse them.... Whew! those were the days!

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Wow, you are a super woman, Wanda! 1 would be plenty......

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

I'm no Superwoman--I only had TWO daughters later in life and wanted to do it right. Life is much easier as both are living out of the house and the youngest turns 20 today. We are enjoying our "empty nest" even if they are over every couple of days to do laundry and raid the refrigerator. Now I have more time for my garden and my friends.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

I firmly believe that every child's birthday is Mother's Day to their mother. Happy Mother's Day , Wanda!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Funny that you think that way, too ~ people think I'm weird when I go to visit someone with a new baby and take along a 'happy birthday' balloon. After all, it is the baby's birth-day. :D

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Perhaps I think of things the same as you, Moby. You are right, it is their birth-day. It's not weird at all. Maybe it's because I do the same thing ;0)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

March 20, 2006 my one and only grandson was born and the baby's Aunt Linda brought a cake, balloons, party hats and a big Happy Birthday sign that she hung up on the wall in my daughter's room.

Thanks Pirl, Moby and I aren't crazy after all ;0)

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Hmmm, or maybe all three of you are certifiable! LOL

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Gosh, Pirl, I meant to congratulate you too.... Congrats!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks! Now he's 9 months old and doesn't sit in his stroller but pushes it through the mall, much to the amusement of many and the delight to my daughter and her husband.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Awwwwww. Baby's first Christmas......How sweet!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Bless his little heart! Just be glad he doesn't push the stroller around with a duck decoy in it, that was DS's favorite strolling buddy. A hen decoy, to be exact. The drake was for bathing with. Kids......!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

A certain DG member sent me this duck as a gag gift and it's come in so handy to show what I was photographing in the garden. Here it's pointing to part of one Japanese iris garden.

Well, I bought a farmer's truck (we've got to get him ready to garden!) for Charlie to push and eventually ride on so that will be my thrill on Christmas day but I'll bet he prefers the Mylar balloons more.

Moby.....DS doesn't still carry the hen decoy around, does he? Please say "NO".

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

lol NO But he still has the drake tucked away in a box somewhere. It was special from Grandpa, you know. ;)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Ah yes, like Bimbo the monkey, which is around here somewhere, from Grandma and Grandpa to my son. I did find Pokey and Gumby for him (brand new) for Christmas. Can't wait to see his almost 42 year old face when he opens THAT package!

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Has he tried to climb the tree yet?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

No, but when his sister was 5 she climbed the tree and fell, breaking her arm in two spots and being in traction for two weeks in the hospital.

However, he does have an abnormal fondness for bananas!

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I hope he doesn't peel the bananas with his FEET !!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Not that I've seen!

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Whew! B&D listed their private harvest on Saturday (maybe late Friday) and I ALMOST bit for the 12 Siberia lilies. It was such a great deal. Which one of you bought that great deal so that I didn't have to? LOl!

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

ARGH!!! Mags!!! You trying to get me into trouble???? I'm not going to look, I'm not going to look, I'm not going to look....

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Yea!! They are sold out!.. :) Ok, I looked. :)

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Hey Ticker, Me ?? Get you into trouble??? Wouldn't dream of it ;)
Who bought them so we didn't have to? Honestly, I came this close (picture the smallest eenciest gap between your thumb and pointer finger) I don't think I have Siberia, just Casablanca. Or maybe I do, who knows? LOL!

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Siberia is one of my favorites. I have a nice bit of them going out back somewhere... ;)

Diann

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

Are there of size that you be willing to do some trading?

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Ya know, I haven't ever dug them..... beats me... If I get time to come up from weeding this year maybe I'll dig them and look.... :)

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Ticker is weeding?? What? Is the house all re-roofed so you have time to chase down weeds?

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

No, the house is not all re-roofed yet. Still waiting for the flat roofs to be done. I've warned Mr. Roofer that I have some expensive peony coming up around the house and that his guys better be watching where they step or it won't be pretty. They were supposed to be done and out of there three weeks ago, but unfortunately, first the rain and then the cold snap messed with them and how you glue down flat roofs, so....

It will be a couple weeks before I get to the back gardens where Siberia is. It was nice to take some of my aggression out on the pesky weeds. :)

Diann

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Hey, I lucked out. I have a regular roof, so they tore it off & recovered it in one day! It was last month, so little was up yet. A couple of iris got smashed & their dropcloths dragged a few stakes out of place. The later freeze & snow did more damage than they did. I hope they get yout roof done soon... Alwaysweeding is dealing with a torn up mess too!

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

And I found another patch of lily marked Siberia... I'll have to watch this patch and see what it does.. I don't remember it doing much the last few years.....

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Linda_IA gave me a Butter & Sugar Siberian 2 years ago that dried up & blew away. No sign of it last year. Whoops--it's up this year!

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Wanda, Siberian Iris are notorious for self seeding... I have tons of Caesar's Brother's cousins all over the place... :) It may not be Butter & sugar... :) If it isn't let me know and I'll dig you a chunk of mine....

Diann

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

I already put another one in. The old one "died out" without blooming & is in the exact spot. I think it was just hiding under the mulch & dayliliy foliage, so I missed it last year.
