Nobody wants to know this-so don't read

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Okay...I tried to warn you.
B & D Lilies is having their huge (private harvest/exhibition) bulb offering.
Don't click on the below link, it could be detrimental to you pocketbook.

Maggie (may I call you Maggie for short?) I got the email from them too. I'm not planning on buying any more but it sure would be cool to get one of those huge bulbs!! I wonder if the ones I'm buying now will grow into this size in time, what do you think? I'm too new to know what to expect.

Looks like they are selling out of a bunch of these already,

Maureen

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Yes, they're selling quickly but send an email if you want something. I sent one at 4:22 and had a response in less than an hour.

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

I placed an order this morning at 6 am.

Lindenhurst, NY

so tell us guys, what have you ordered???

Maureen
I was eying suzuki

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

I first got a clue about lilies 3 years ago . I only thought you could get what I could get around here, which is great, compared to some places I am sure, but whoaaaaaaaa! When I ordered from B&D (the first "lily" place I found) and received these bulbs that , to me, where the largest lily bulbs I'd ever set eyes on. I quickly phoned them, thinking they had sent me a few "private harvest" bulbs by mistake. Bob just laughed and said there was no mistake, that is the size they sell. Wow. From that moment on, every bulb I bought in a packet, seemed pea size. Thus, my love for all of these growers to the west and to the north grows, as do their beautiful treasures in my back yard , oh! and front and side yards. Anybody ever grow liles on a roof???
Maxine, you beat me to this! What did you get? Superbum was the most tempting to me.
Maureen, call me whatever you want, but don't call me late for dinner.LOL!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Superbum, here.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

I gave in to temptation and got Superbum here too. They were very prompt about e-mailing.

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

Following is my list. WEAK, WEAK,WEAK!!!!!

1-Indian Summer
2-Emerald Angel
3-Horn of Plenty
4-Copper King
5-Avocado Ot
6-Fanfare

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Maxine, what a beautiful list of specs. you have there. The beauty of the lily.

Lindenhurst, NY

Guess what now they have these huge special offering of superbum - proceeds go to the St. Vincent de paul to help the local needy. They are like 100.00 = take a look on the website.

Maureen

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Maureen - I can't see it on the site. What page is it on? Thanks.

Lindenhurst, NY

HI Pirl, click on the link that Mag place above in her original post. Then scroll down to "clumps". You will see it towards the bottom of the page.

Now I'm wondering if I should have ordered a superbum. I think I'm going to order one now.

Maureen

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Found it - thanks.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Finally, just submitted my order! I feel excited in advance. Still couldn't find where to list my bonus plants so I'm sure they'll be contacting me.
Thank you for the link, magnolialover, and thanks, Maureen, for your help.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I believe you should make your note in the section where they ask if you want a substitution, credit, etc.. Just email them with your choice of bonus.

The other day when they come out with their Private Harvest sale, I sent an email stating that I wanted one. One what??? DUH! Had to send them another one with a little more clarity. *ding, dong...anybody home?*

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

broke down and bought 3 Sumatra.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I did Sumatra, too! Loved the color.

Moby - you make me feel normal - thanks!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Thanks.... or you have my sympathies!

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Oh Sumatra.....you two , pirl & vossner, you will not be sorry. It is gorgeous, one of my favorite newer varieties! It makes me want to scale it like crazy, it's such a beauty.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I scaled all of my new bulbs earlier this spring, including Sumatra. I'll pop them out into the garden later this fall. Of course I just had to take Sumatra pollen and daub it all around (Arabian Red x Sumatra, Summer's End x Sumatra and maybe some others I have forgotten about). Looks like I have a guzillion oriental pods (well, more than a few, anyway). I am just hoping I get good seed from them!

Lindenhurst, NY

I have to go see what sumatra looks like, I may have ordered it and don't even know it(that's scary;-)
I also went back and asked them to see if they had a private harvest superbum to add to my order, they were going back out to the fields and would let me know...i bet they find one (what is it like 24.99?) oh well, what's another 25.00, right?? I wasn't even so crazy about superbum, but they got me with their sales pitch which went something like this

this is your chance to get a piece of history, this won't come around again until 2015

Now how could I not want one after reading that??? they could have sold me the brooklyn bridge :-)

Connie - can you please tell me why you scaled all your new bulbs? I don't know what your talking about.

Going to cook meatloaf, have a good night my crazy lily friends
Maureen

Berkeley, CA(Zone 9a)

I have a few Casa Blanca. They have been in the garden for years and I get wondeerful blooms. I will be ordering more. Question: Do they ever need separating (like daffs) so you can accumulate more?
Thanks.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Dun1kirk-that would be just what I'd do, separate new bulbs from the original, if you see little stalks of lily. You might not need any new ones, with what bulblets you split off.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Anyone get their bulbs yet?

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

No bulbs here yet. Seems like next week is there favorite week to ship here (the third week in Oct.). I just can't stand that it is so cold so early. I planted Buggy Crazy's today and working bare handed in the soil (my favorite way) my hands got all numb and tingly. Ugh. Still loved planting those though.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Mine arrived yesterday! I'm on my way out to plant now.

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

Mine arrived yesterday morning and were in the ground by noon.
Very nice bulb size.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

two of my sumatra were rotten, B&D already agreed to replace. I planted the third one.
Magnolia lover, on the rotten bulbs, can I try to use the non-rotted scales? The bulbs were rotten from the inside out, there are maybe 5 scales between the two bulbs that look OK.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Vossner, let's ask Pard. Well, Pard, I'm inclined to saying yes...You?

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

then, I better go and get them out of the trash, lol

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Soak the good scales in a 10% solution of sodium hypochlorite (household bleach sold at 5-5.25 or so%) for 30 minutes. Rinse well and air dry. Proceed from there.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

B&D Lilies have just posted their specials for the Fall. Some nice sizes and prices...
http://lilybulb.com/specials.html

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

You just HAD to do it, didn't you? :-) Just when I thought I finished planting all the Orientals yesterday!!!

Going out to find room - thanks!

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

I did just HAVE to do it. I like to spread the joy of lilies everywhere I go. My best warning is the title of this forum....
"Nobody wants to know this-so don't read"

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

But that doesn't mean we have to listen, right?

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Nope, you don't have to listen. Sometimes listening is overrated. Pirl, have you gone out and dug those holes yet?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Digging for my daughter - just the tall white phlox and already have Harbor Star (6) to fill that spot.

Believe me I'll keep on looking: the weather is divine!

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Nope, I'm done buying till next year. It's getting colder here everyday and I still have to plant some tulips and a couple peony over at my mother-in-laws house... I'm done buying. :) It sure does look tempting tho...

Diann

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

I hear ya , Ticker. I planted my last lilies, at the cemetary today. I bought American Spirit locally and thought it would be a nice choice, along with a pink & white asiatic mix, inaddition to reviving the plot with fresh tulips. It's one of the plantings I enjoy most, oddly enough.
Novembuurrr makes it easy to stop planting with temps and weather like we have had here.
