Of course!
Lilium formosanum and phillipinense
You'll kick yourself later if you don't get it now!
BTW, when you find links don't work, sometimes all you need to do is look at the address that shows in the window that is erroring. If something looks weird, change it and a lot of times it will work. My bogus links somehow got a comma at the end of the addresses. That's what screwed them up.
And another BTW, I use FireFox browser. With a free extension program that works in tandem with FF, I can enlarge any image on a web page, even that poilanei photo. But in this case, the resolution was that great to make much of a difference. The same type of extension programs are usually made for Opera browser, and Netscape(maybe a bit less often) browser too.
The general consensus is that I should! I have thought, yes, if I don't I will kick myself later! OK! The order should still be in waiting, they post ealier in the week.
That's funny Lefty, I accidentally bumped the right click and saw the 'zoom in' feature but I don't have FF. The pixels were not good, they never are! I tried it on something elsewhere and it didn't show it!
The description on rareplants did say 'variably' marked red, but it said strongly scented to start, light later. The deflorum link said light. Did I say somewhere there was or was not a light scent?
I'm wondering if I should ask to email the pics to rareplants and see what they say?
Relax everyone! I bought it!
AND while I was there I popped in a Nomocharis pardanthina! Another £20.50!!!!!!

Sadly, I don't think any Nomocharis will survive in MN. My first foray into attempting it is this year. Chen Yi had some that were quite cheap (and I hope they really are Nomocharis.)
I've kicked myself a few times over since I passed up buying nomocharis seeds on lilyseeds.com a couple of years ago. They haven't listed them since. It would have been a nice inexpensive way to try them out. Live and learn, live and learn....
I bought a Nomocharis finlayorum from rareplants 2 years ago, it's flowered 2 years and this year it was a lot taller plant, but it's not the right one!
They had N saluenensis in their spring catalogue, but didn't when I bought that, and it is that one! It is rare, and I do like it BUT..........
It did make a few seeds the first year and I put them around the parent plant, the stem this year died back some time ago but no seeds. Now I have some young plants growing, I don't think they should be doing that at this time of year. It looks like they are growing around the original bulb in the middle of the pot, I'm wondering if they are offsets.
Oh, those Nomos at rareplants. are exquisite. What jewels!
The finlayorum is superb!
Good luck with that one especially!
Robert.
They are jewels! I will have to get one at a time, and hope I get the right ones!
I was searching for N saluenensis, I found some pics of others on this site, N x finlayorum there doesn't look right either! Nice pic of N pardanthina f punctata...
http://magnar.aspaker.no/liste.htm
Mine does look exactly like the pic rareplants was showing of N saluensis, but reading the details on the China flora site I really am not sure!

N pardanthina f punctata---DIVINE!!!
Oh, yes, a BIG difference in the finlayorum........A written description (from a good source) will confirm the ID in most cases *if* the differences are easy to see without an actual specimen in front of you. When you get to down to the fine as frog hair differences between some vars and species, forget it!
Robert.
Boy, I hear ya there, Robert. I have been trying to find out the difference between Thalictrum ichangense and T. coreanum (T. i. var coreanum). Apparently coreanum has a longer style. I haven't even been able to find a style on mine !!! Well, I guess that tells me what it is, LOL.
Tweezers and a magnifying glass? Electron microscope?
Yup. Already tried the first two. Literature does say the style is difficult to find. I am thinking maybe more toward spring they might show up a bit better, rather than late summer. They really do bloom ALL season, right up to freeze-up.
Looking at the pic of my Nomocharis it does have some slight serration on the edges of the larger petals. I think because it's a natural hybrid and if grown from seed there is going to be a lot of variation. A good reason to stick with straight species if you want one that looks like the pic.
My #4 lilium philippinense come what may has opened. And it's like #2 and #3, quite a nice heavy shading of reddish purple on the petal backs. I like the way the colour bands near the stem end twist. This one also has a heavy orange peel effect on the petals.
A nice blue stigma, you can see little porous dots on the surface. I took this as it was getting dark and there was dew dripping from it, and the stamens, a good way for one drip to pick up the goods from another as it slides down? This is too late I think to make seeds, unless we have mild weather for a long time. I am leaving it to it's own resources.
Oh! Hand me my brush and the pollen packet!!!!!!
