Oh I'm a gaudy lover too! Is the Altari the one on the right, white & violet?
I'm putting it on my list too
Neal - you'll find your spot. You have such an eye for color I'm sure it'll be
beautiful. My place is burning with yellows & reds these days. The blues
of the larkspur are starting to fade.

My lily show is under way!
Oh yay!! Pard, I see yours does have the same bit of color striping. I'm so relieved- AW has such rich coloring I was dreading seeing it go.
Do any of you know if there is any distinction made between the longiflorum/Oriental crosses and the Aurelian(Chinese trumpet)/Oriental crosses? Most of the OTs have dark stems that seem to indicate Aurelian genes, but 'Triumphator' has the growth habit and fragrance of longiflorum (Easter lily). It seems to me the ones with Chinese trumpet parentage would be stronger and more vigorous.
What do you mean by distinction; it's own division? I think all those interdivisional crosses get lumped into Division VIII. The serious growers will always indicate the cross. And I think I have seen AO as an indicator somewhere. Triumphator is a longiflorum/oriental cross; not OT. However, I think I've seen it advertised as an OT in more than one catalog.
A friend of mine who is really into trumpets has sent a question into Ask Lil E Um about why there doesn't seem to be a lot of hybridization going on in the trumpet division. I don't think he's received an answer yet.
Maxine, I love the Purple King. I seem to always lean towards the pinks when it comes to lilies. The purple would mix in well.
Maxine, I like that Dragons Eye... do I see some speckled lilies next to it?? :)
Diann
Ooooohhh! Maxine, Dragon's Eye is incredible!! The stems and petals look so thick and sturdy. Where did you get that one? Purple King is lovely too; does it look more purple when next to pinker ones?
Pat, further separation of divisions is what I'm wondering about. I find the genetic parentage of lilies fascinating. I had wondered the same thing about Chinese trumpets as your friend. Then B&D suddenly had this whole collection of sumptuous colors hit their catalog--aaahhh, I want them all!
You should have seen the ones they offered this spring. I think they call them the Mount Hood series. Chief Chetzemoka, Lake Cushman, O'Wata, Skokomish, Suquamish Grape and Mount Walker; all just beautiful. I didn't see these being offered this fall in the catalog.
I was on B&D's site earlier drooling. They still show pics of that gorgeous native American series from the spring catalog. Hmmm, hope to find some of those next spring.
Maxine, I answered my own question when I was on their site. They should use your pics; yours are much prettier.
Must have been someone else, Maxine, unless you are referring to my comment in another thread about being disappointed in the the orange coloring of Swansea ???
Maxine, that big group of firey orange is beautiful!
More blooms are still coming, and this thread is getting a bit long, so continuing here:

Thanks for sharing my joy!

Gemini Sage, didn't come back here till now. So of course my flaoting garden of yellows is long gone. I'll pick another one next week and will take a photo of it.
BTW where did you get Zeus? I MUST have it. Is it a little more reddish/peachy than it shows in your picture, like Katinka on steroids or is that my imagination?
inanda
Inanda, I got Zeus from buggycrazy, but I don't believe she's offering it now. You may want to email her to see if she can come up with a few for you. The color is pretty true in the pic, sort of a peachy-melon color with a deeper throat. On her site, she compared it to Tiger Babies, but said she found Zeus to be a better performer. It also has a lovely fragrance. I'm not familiar with Katinka, ....off to look it up :)
