My lily show is under way!

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Such an exciting time of year; new lily blooms every day! This beautiful mulberry-red is one I recieved in a trade last year and I love it! I think it's an LA hybrid.

Here's Spacer. It started out a dusty red-berry color and fades to more pink. I really like this one too.

Some unknown shell-pink Asiatics in my pastel garden:

p.s. See the towering cluster of buds on the 'Regale' in the back?

Asiatic 'Linda' worked perfectly in my bed of sunrise/sunset colors. Looks orange in the pic, but is really more of a bright salmon.

Very nice! I like that Spacer, too. :)

LOL I like Spacer ~ sounds like one that belongs in my family garden.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Lol, Moby. If they ever come up with one called 'Air Head' I'll have to get it for sure!

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

This is a bright bicolor I picked up in a pot on a clearance wrack at Walmart last year. I love the shiny, waxy petals.

Gorgeous Lily pictures! I love the raspberry color in your 1st photo. Do you happen to remember the name of it?

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

They're amazing! I'm with Shirley, what's that first one? I love to see the first ones bloom.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

I'm hoping someone here will have an idea what it may be. I recieved it last year in a trade just as red, but it's a stunner. I have a huge grin every time I walk by it. I've noticed a slight hint of fragrance too. That and the shape of the blooms makes me think it must be an LA hybrid. All the blooms are in a tight, up-facing cluster.

Neal, I had one open today that looks alot like your first pic. I got home too late tonight to get pictures. It's called Narbonne and it's an LA. The description is "deep rose pink, deepening to rose red with small cream center. Yours does look like it has the cream center. I bet it is Narbonne.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

You got some really nice ones. I like the Walmart bi-colored.

Susan

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Pat, how tall does your Narbonne get? This is it's first year in my garden and it's 5' tall. I love that-right at eye level!

Thanks Susan, the 2 colors contrast a bit more in person than the pic shows, very flame-like.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I really like the one in the picture posted at 1:18 AM, very delicate looking, looks quite different in form, very well branched. Boy you must be a night owl. All look liovely, your garden must be beautiful!
Polly

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Thanks Polly! I love that shell pink one and wish I knew what it is. It was a bag of Lowes cheapies just marked pink asiatics. They multiply like mad. I got 2 bags and one was orange. My sleep habits have been so strange lately, the last 2 mornings I've been up by 5am.

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

Neal, I just got home about 45 minutes ago and I'm beat. Too tired to go out and measure, but mine is tall. I'm guessing 4' or more. The Lily Nook description indicates 3' average height. It's really dark out. I think it's going to storm here.

No pictures again today and Madrid, Royal Sunset, Nepal, Ginza and a few others have begun blooming. I'm definitely not working late tomorrow! Linders starts their 50% sale tomorrow. Absolutely everything from bedding plants, to perennials, to hanging baskets and tropicals and shrubs is on sale. I stopped just a few minutes last night and did a walk through and most of the plants look wonderful. Don't need a thing, but some some Mona Lisa's potted up that I can probably pick up for 2.00 bucks each. OK, thinking about buying plants perked me up a bit.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

A plant clearance sale is my favorite pick-me-up! Be sure to let us know what goodies you bring home :)

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

I sent my boss an email at 6:00 am and told her I'd be late due to the sale. When I got in, she wanted to know all about it and I noticed she left early today. Am I an enabler or what!

I picked up several bedding plants, petunias, million bells, african daisies to fill up some of the holes I have. I don';t know about where you are, but things are growing really slow up here and not filling in very fast. Not like last year. I had a jungle out there last year by this time.

I also picked up a number of perennials:

Viola Purple Showers to replace Viola Etain that I lost over the winter. Hope these do better. Very striking colors.

Delphinium Blue Mirror, about 24x18 with gentian-blue flowers and suppose to attract Hummers.

Veronica Fairytale, about 16x16 with pale silver-pink flowers. A "DarwinPlantSpotter" plant.

And, Salvia nemorosa Marcus (Meadow Sage), about 8x12 with dark violet-blue flowers. I planted one of these last year and it came through winter just fine. A beautiful little plant that the Bumble Bees just love. I wish I had a dozen of them.

And finally, I picked up potted lilies, Casa Blanca and Mona Lisa. I aleady have these planted elsewhere in my garden, but I couldn't resist. They have three bulbs in each pot and they looked just so alive and healthy, I just had to have them (plus I had room in my cart).

Now I can't wait for the 75% sale. That should be in about two weeks. LOL, I probably won't have room for anymore plants. My plan was to pot up Dahlias and Glads this year to use a fillers as the season got along (so I wouldn't be spending so much money at Linders!). Now I have 12 pots of Dahlias and 20 pots of Glads (with still some more to plant) and there won't be any room for them in the gardens. Oh well, they will look nice blooming on the sidewalks, the driveway, the lawn, the steps and anywhere else I can think to stash them.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

What a great haul! Sounds like a wonderful day.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Interesting to hear you say things are slow for you this year. I think my annual are being very to slow to get going. Inpatients are still tiny and so are the zinnias. Not sure what the problem is. I planted a lot of zinnias and coleus in pots this year to pop into bare spots after the daylilies are done. Last year, I found that does work well. I picked up a few things at half off, but may have to hit one more nursery this week, just to see if I can find any bargains.

Susan

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

Really slow. I suppose because we had a cool spring and we haven't had much warm weather lately and little rain. Surprisingly, the cosmos have started to bloom. I didn't have these last year, but I know I didn't start seeing them in gardens til about August last year.

Hartselle, AL

You sure have some great pics on here of your lilie collection. I have one I'd like to see if anyone can help me identify the name. It's a varigated color.

bedwesl, Hi! You might have better luck by posting that picture over in the daylily forum. Do you have details on it? Like when you got it, where you got it? Not that I can probably tell you what it is, but it might help someone else narrow it down. :) But stick around here, we'll get you addicted to Lilies. :) heh heh

Diann

Hartselle, AL

Thanks Diann.....I posted it in the Daylily Section. Like I said, I'm real new at this.....so my navigation around the site is still a little rusty. Thanks for the advice.

Sheri

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

That's quite alright! We're just glad to have you here! Do hang out here, too, ok? There are a bunch of great enablers in this forum, and the daylily forum, and the hosta forum, and well, you get the idea. :)

Diann

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Hi Sheri, pretty daylily. Very similar to several varieties I've seen, but in the pic yours looks like there's a plum cast to the red. Is that a good representation of it's color? (I have trouble capturing reds)

I have several daylily varieties, but there are soooo many, I don't even try to keep up, lol.

But, another new lily opened today, and I love it! It's 'Starburst' from buggycrazy.

Oh, I like that one too!

Oh wow, that is so cool!! More please. :)

'Sefanja' has opened. It was described as melon colored, hmmm..., not sure if that's what I'd call it. But pretty still.

And that's Maggie, who never misses a photo op!

I'd say a light pumpkin, but, yes, it is pretty. I really like the clear spotless ones. They look so fresh. Mine will bloom soon.

I love Starburst!

Here's the first to bloom of the ones I got from our little lily coop this spring. (Drats, can't find
the name right now.) Maybe one of you other lily-a-holics will remember?

I'm terrible with labels (obviously) and many I got in mixes so never had the name to begin with..
but I'll post some of the nicer ones just for the sheer joy of their lilyness.

Used the inverse of the "bugs view" technique for these... they were too tall for me
so I just lifted the camera above 'em and took a few shots.

And some nice creamy white ones...

Very nice Tammy, I especially like the yellow-bronze bicolor and the spidery shape of the blooms. The pink from WoodenShoe is 'Spacer'.
