i really have much catching up to do. i'm missing out on plant talk and my friends!

(sigh).

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

well, thanks for thinking of me. I got lucky and blooming bulb had some in stock so they are sending replacements. all's well.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

What a deal on Black Beauty! I'm so excited about seeing mine bloom this year. The pic of them on Old House Gardens site is amazing.

I miss you to, Annapet. Glad we've at least got you on weekends :)

Margo, are you seeing spring blooms yet? Thinking your neck of the woods should be warming up nicely.

Happy spring all!
Neal

Corte Madera, CA

i miss you, too, neal. kell had an idea: QUIT WORK FOR THE SUMMER. lol. that's ideal. imagine i don't have to rely on my allowance alone these days, but i don't have the time. to garden anymore. and this weekend, it's going to RAIN more.

kenton sent me this beautifully painted pot, and i keep it in my kitchen where i spend most of my time when not working. it's so pretty with swirls and yellow brugs, and signed by the artist himself. (kenton). he doesn't come this way these days?

of course i'm missing my galpal margo TERRIBLY! she must be in bulb and lilies heaven. and roses.

sigh. i have to work soon. i leave at 7AM and it's raining. arghhhhh!

you all BEHAVE. hee-hee.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Us? Misbehave? As in tempting and enabling? Aaahh, never... (nose grows!)

Myrtle Beach, SC

Hi Ya'll....no blooms yet except for paperwhites and daffies, but lots and lots of green showig through, lol.
BUT guess what Neal and Pet ?
My American Lilies came yesterday~~I am so excited. I will mail both of yours on Monday. I still have bulbs to plant from before these. We have a formal dance tomorrow night. Looks like I will spend Monday on my hands and knees in the garden, then Tuesday I will be hobbling, LOL. Such fun to plant the new arrivials.
God bless, Margo

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Hi all, just had to share my joy and rapture! Part of my order from buggycrazy arrived today (I'll post pics of the bulbs), and I'm blown away! She warned me the the 'Leslie Woodriff', while a large bulb, does'nt get as big as others, like 'Scheherazade'. Well, if that's the case, 'Scheherazade' must be the size of basketballs! My "smaller" 'Leslie Woodriff' is a scant 45cm circ. and 6" in diameter! Ok, so that one was a $20 splurge (since I had credit to spend), but I also recieved the 3 L.henryi for $3 each and those are a bit smaller. The smallest being a mere 35cm circ. and 5" in diameter. I've never seen anything like them before, amazing!

Oh fantastic Margo! Have you grown Orienpets before? I love them, and am sure you will to. Have fun at the ball. Sounds like good timing-you won't have to worry about finding dirt under your nails until after the party, lol.
Neal

Myrtle Beach, SC

Hi Neal ! ALL my lily bulbs are new to me this year. I have never had any other lilies except an occasional Easter Lily. I can't wait to see my first colorful blooms.
I am planning another order from buggycrazy very soon. I bought a few things from her earlier this year (or last Fall?) and was totally impressed with her quality and speedy delivery. I'm just trying to figure out what else I want besides "Sherherazade" and Leslie Woodruff. I truly love the reds or pinks bicolored with yellow or white. You can do so much with them.
I found the perfect necklace today for my gown---yay! Talk about waiting until the last minute, lol. Now I just need to calm down. I've lost 112 pounds since the Ball last year. I'm so excited, lol.
God bless, Margo

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Congratulations Margo!! You go show your stuff girl! I got rid of 75lbs. of extra baggage myself, and have kept if off for over a year now. Thanks for sharing your victory!

Can't wait to hear your reactions when you start getting blooms, especially the perfumed ones. I suspect we may have helped create another lily fiend! Yippeee!
Neal

Myrtle Beach, SC

WTG Neal ! That's terrific, it sure makes me feel like doing more in the garden ! (and everywhere else, lol) God bless, Margo

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

Could you post a link where you ordered from Neal? I bought a couple of Casa Blanca and 3 Stargazers today to plant.
Thanks,
Teresa

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Here ya go Teresa, http://www.buggycrazy.builderspot.com/BUGGYCRAZY_BULBS_NATIVE_PLANTS.html

All the lilies are on the 'specials' page, and she keeps adding. Many of the varieties she has are unfamiliar to me. Now there is one listed called Henry's Suprise that is a hybrid of L.henryi with an Asiatic; yellow, somewhat recurved petals, and lots of dark spots. Described as the latest of the Asiatics to bloom (late July). I got an email from her and she said she does'nt ship her "monster" Scheherazade bulbs anymore because at 8" in diameter they won't fit in a 6X8 box!

Oh, I need to get those pics downloaded from the camera...I'll be right back

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Here's my "little" Leslie Woodriff bulb, hehehe

So far this year I plan on planting
Asiatic
-ginza
-pink pixie
-black out
-toronto
-cannes

Oriental
Rosy Dawn

I seen buggy auctions on ebay, but she wanted $10-11 ea bulb for shipping and does not combine shipping. That could get a bit pricey.

Corte Madera, CA

margo, neal, that's so awesome. so tonight margo will go to the ball. we won't wait up. lol. but we want to see photos =))).

that LITTLE leslie makes me want to buy more....yay. i wish i have more time.

pomudd, teresa, sterling you all better post photos, too!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

If it's something that she won't combine shopping on, it's probably because she can't due to the size. There a good chance that would be in your favor!

Those are just impossible to believe! Wow!

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

I bought 2 Casa Blanca and 3 Stargazers at the Nashville Garden Show. Also a Red Lion bulb. I have a thread going in Daylilies and one is also in Mid South Gardening. Lots of Springtime pic!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

YOU think it's impossible to believe ~ it's not any easier even when it's right in your hand! LOL My DH said we were going to need dynamite to get a hole big enough to bury that thing.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Glad you got some nice smelly Orientals ~ you'll love them. :)

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

puddleofmud, definitely better to order from her site than ebay. She does that shipping thing so ebay does'nt get a cut of that part of the total price, but on her site shipping is reasonable.

Right Annapet, Cinderella is gonna feel like dancing wayyyy past midnight tonight!

Moby, I think it's time to rent a backhoe, lol.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I have better luck for some reason planting in the spring. So far I have ordered these:
Yelloween
Red Dutch
Volendam
Bizet
Cavalese
Vivaldi
New Wave
Jet Stream
Dazzle
Corrida
Courier
Navona
Cathrine the Great
I had some Red Dutch from last year, and loved them, so sent for some more.

Well - I had 6 of those giants in my shopping cart and then didn't order. I'm
not sure where I'd put them. And I've ordered enough stuff already (not to mention
that almost 100 varieties of plants I'm starting from seed). Argh! I wish I had
a crew to prepare lots of planting beds for me. Every year I add one or two more
and find I've bought/grown enough to fill them up. Just so little willpower!!!
Tam

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Polly, a bunch of nice ones there. Where did you order from? Interesting that you have better luck planting in the sping; I can see that in colder zones a growing season to get established could be helpful before their first winter.

Tammy, I feel your pain, lol. But never fear; in my overzealous lily aquisitions I'm bound to have plenty to share in a couple of years.

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Isn't that the fun part of being a gardener? Always something extra to share that someone else wants...

Neal - I checked my ranunculous today. There's a couple of flower buds on one of the pots!!!
I'll post pictures when they finally bloom

cruel!!! LOL

Neal, all except Catherine The Great from: www.woodenshoebulbfarm.com

No idea why I have such better luck planting in the spring. Unless I'm not putting them deep enough when I plant in the fall, or maybe planting too late, but I don't think so.

Polly

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

Polly, You're not the only one who has problems with orientals. The Lily Nook will not sell orientals in the fall because they believe these need the entire season to settle in and set roots. You should have better luck with a spring planting. Also, if it gets as cold where you live as where as I live, planting a bit deeper (8") may be beneficial. I also like putting the orientals near a warm foundation and I add about 2 feet of mulch. That might be overkill, but better safe than sorry as I was the year I lost all of my orientals.

The Wooden Shoe looks like they have great bulbs, but I wouldn't know what to do with 25 of the same bulb. Do you know if they will hold bulbs for shipping in the Spring?

Anyone else have any experience with WS? I'm a little concerned about the tulip labeled as a lily.?. You'd think someone there would have noticed.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Beaker, I saw a tulip labeled as a gladiola........is this what you were talking about?

That's a little disconserting......

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I've ordered from Ednie/Wooden Shoe for three years with absolutely no problems. They do ship in the spring. Every lily I ordered so far has been true to name. I think they just have a lax webmaster. I have no connections to this company, but would recommend it highly. Obviously not everyone wants 25 lilies, but their prices are good. I've only ever had them delete a couple of varieities they were sold out of. And excellent communication from the owner Jeffrey, who is from the Netherlands.

Beaker, thanks, I actually have pretty much given up on Orientals, for the Orienpets, which do so much better here. But every different kind I planted in the spring, Asiatics, Orienpets, Trumpets, all seem to do better. Even the second year, so I think I will only do spring planting from now on.

Polly

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Oh Polly, now look what you've done. Introduced me to a new lily source! I know, I asked for it, but you'll be to blame for any damage I do there, lol. Of course with 25 of a variety, that would be some great extras to trade with. Off to check them out!
Neal.

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

I looked them up on the Watchgog and they have a good rating. I'm also very impressed with the variety of bulbs being offered. If a few people would like to go in on the purchase of a particular bulb, I may be interested in participating. Generally, I don't like putting in more than 3 of any one variety because I need a season or two to decide whether it is a keeper or not.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Beaker, I'm the only one that rated them in GWD, however if you check on Ednie, their wholesale company, you will find a couple other ratings. I suspect they are a newer company.

Neal, so sorry! But just think what an impact 25 Black Out (for ex) would make. I have to say they are certainly not as big as the Buggycrazy ones, however the bulbs I received were the accurate advertised size. I think you will be pleased if you do order from them.

Polly

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

beaker, I was thinking the same thing. If perhaps 8 people are interested, that would make for some lovely (and cheap!) aquisitions-3 bulbs each of 8 varieties. I'm easy, so of course I'm interested, lol. And I'll bet Annapet and Margo will be easily enticed, hehehe :)
The feelers are out, who's interested?

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Polly, don't be sorry, I'm sure not. Their prices on Asiatics make it very economical to do mass plantings, and like you said, what an impact! I'm used to the usual size bulbs most vendors send, and by the 2nd year they always lood wonderful. I think buggycrazy's bulbs are freaks of nature on steroids! Good grief, imagine how much shipping would be for 25 of those!
