Sidney, That pic is similar to what we had last Saturday. At least 3 other people have mentioned the Salmon colored 'everything' for that 5 minute period with the "Glow".
Like you, I can't take sunset pics from home. The problem isn't the trees but power lines and strip moll. I'm just one house lot in from the business district.

Keep in mind that I have around 10 inches on the ground as it is.

I broke out the "blizzard shopping list" and sent dh to the store. Car has gas, we have fresh batteries, etc, etc.

Now, the way this think could go is another story. They forecast 9 inches, we get a trace, they forecast a trace and we get a foot. Or we end up shoveling 6 inches of "partly cloudy". I wanna be a weather person in my next life.

you guys are getting the nastys. the snow storm predicted for this morning never materialized... weren't even many clouds and they blew over on the mountains and on into Colorado.

We got to 47* in my yard today. but it's dropping really fast right now. We're already down to the freezing mark as the sun turns the snow capped mountains a lovely shade of pink.

So what happened to the ''mild winter'' we were going to have?

Cold bright sun, smokey haze from the wood fires burning in the valley - accumulates during the night and takes a goodly part of the day to disburse. Our substitute for fog, I guess. Went out to watch the Geminid meteor shower last night it was so darn cold I only stayed long enuff to see two. Some skywatcher I am.

It was -5° on the porch this AM at 5:30. Thankfully it was windstill. Mostly cloudy all day but temps got up to 21°. Normally we have these temps from Dec 15 to Jan 15, and not so early as we did this year. We have a nice snow cover on the plants. Tomorrow the weather man wants snow, sleet and freezing rain. LOL

LOL, seeds 'weatherman wants', that is certainly true here. Thank God we don't have many hurricanes come in here, but it's not because the weathermen don't "want" one. They just go bananas if there is even a chance.

According to wunderground, it got down to about 42F last night. The house is cold. We don't run the furnace after we go to bed and they don't build houses with insulation out here. Our double-glazed windows probably hold in the heat better than the walls do.

The temps are warming all day up to 32 now. We had two inches of snow then an inch of ice. Doggone driveway is covered again - will have to snowblow it tomorrow. Hope the electric stays on. It sure is nice to breathe air that is 32 degrees.

We had an ice storm over night and the power has been off since 7 this morning. It came back on about 10 mins ago- PTL!!! I was soo cold and the candles were gettin' skimpy. Also, since I am on a well, no water[need elec for the pump], no bath- ugh! No toilet flush either- YUCK!! Phones were also down til about 3:30. Went to Publix and they were open but in semi-dark and no cold items. It was quite an experience I can tell ya. I had to get jugs of water and fireplace logs.
Hope everyone is safe warm and dry.

It is amazing how much we take for granted each day isn't it?

So glad you ae back in the heat again. Go ahead and save 10 or 20 jugs of water for the next time you have to flush with no power. It doesn't have to be sterile to flush with.

You know what's funny about the jugs of water? I have been washing and saving empty milk jugs for months now and have a nice collection going. I just have never bothered to fill them with water- how dumb is that?!?!?!

That will change this w/e though- LOL!

The last time we had a big earthquake, the water was out for about a day. For some reason that I no longer remember, I had a few empty milk jugs. I filled them with water from the creek for flushing the toilet.

I've started keeping a few of those plastic containers that cat litter comes in inside a cardboard box. Figure they might come in handy some day for some flushing water, and they're square, so they're easy to store. The only problem I see is that they might be pretty heavy filled with water. They weigh a ton filled w/cat litter and Costco keeps making them bigger, LOL.
