These iris on-line websites for 2005 are up

Oro Valley, AZ(Zone 9a)

Woodspirit ~ I'm not 100% positive - - but I believe it's their FIRST year EVER that they've been opened for business/or existed. At least I have never run across them before, or read any listing of them in the various iris publications before.

The Iris Farm is taking orders - they have a lot of Blythe, reblooming - well, just a LOT of Iris running the gamut from $50.00 to $6.00. There is one positive comment in the Watchdog. There are no other comments.

Hi! just wanted to let you know that I have been checking prices and The Iris Farm is running at least several dollars a rhizome above mid-america. Also, their Blyth cultivars are expensive and Keith Keppel has them for sometimes $10 to $20 less. So check prices.

Oro Valley, AZ(Zone 9a)

Good advice, Doss!! :-)

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

It is worth looking at The Iris Farm though. They have a lot of Iris I haven't seen anywhere else. Sometimes an extra dollar or two is worth it. (LOL)

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Leota's Iris Garden says that they will be open March 1.

http://www.leotas-iris.com/

Sutton's says that their gardens will be open March 27 for visitors. I have written and asked when they think that they will have their web site up.

Philadelphia, PA

I just saw a message that Napa Country Iris Garden is up and running as of today, but, I don't have their address.

does anyone know anything about blue j iris? belinda

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

I'm wondering about whether Superstition Iris Gardens carries all or most of the Iris on their website? It's quite a show.

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

daylily, Margie said Blue J just opened this year.

doss, i couldn't find the link for superstition iris gardens. it's not in the garden watchdog. could you please post it. thanks, belinda

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

I know that the superstition website is hard to find and I don't know why. Margie originally posted it somewhere. In addition to a lot of historics, arilbreds, the have a lot of fine quality Iris introduced in the last 5 years by growers like Ghio and Keppel. Once you see the site, I'm sure you'll understand why I'm wondering about the catalog.

Napa Iris Garden is open. They seem to have very good prices. And their new intros are on the website too.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Only 28? (LOL) I'm struggling.

Here's how to get the catalog. It won't have pictures - but you've seen them on the website.

If you would like your name to be placed on the mailing list for the 2005
catalog, please send a check for $1.50 to Superstition Iris Gardens,
2536 Old Highway (Dept. I5), Cathey's Valley CA 95306-9738. The
catalog should be ready to mail in late February/early March 2005.

Hope this helps.

What do you like?

Coshocton, OH(Zone 6a)

thanks, will mail tomorrow so i can get the catalog.

Snowpeak is up and running too. I ordered from them last year and they were great!

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Those are some beautiful historics and dwarfs. I didn't look at the whole list but I'm fond of many of these historics myself. Your garden will be beautiful - and it won't look like anyone else's in the neighborhood. I particularly like "Little Freak" and "Rythym". I love the way that they look like Japanese Iris and yet I can grow them in my dry part of the world. If my pond wasn't already surrounded by Cycloglossa Iris, I'd put them in there for sure. Well, maybe there is room for a few......

Coshocton, OH(Zone 6a)

doss, you're right, my yard will different from the neighborhood. i live on my dh family farm, i am surrounded by fields. this is area i will be planting the irises. i have taken out the bushes, and added 5 feet on each side. i don't think anyone will notice if i digged out a few more ft. this spring. i have a list for malevil gardens and waiting for them to update their site. belinda

What a stunning border - and with lots of daylilies too. No surprise I guess. I think it's great that you have so much room. I'm always squeezing every inch out of my yard. Is that corn in the background? I'm so jealous. Farmland can be so great to garden and I'm mucking around in clay.

And if anyone objects when you dig out a few more feet to make all that beauty happen, they are just fools. After all, you aren't digging up their corn field. I love the bench and structure too.

Coshocton, OH(Zone 6a)

yes, it's corn. i have great soil. the house is builted on a cow pasture. dad and i built the bench and fence. my dh has horseshoe pits on each and you can't see them. belinda

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Love it. Can I come get my hands in your dirt? (LOL)

I was just checking out Cooleys and they say that their site will be open in April.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Schreiner's catalog is available now for $5.00

http://www.schreinersgardens.com/miva/merchant.mvc?

I'll say it again. Cut the prices in half because that's what you'll be paying and you get the $5.00 back with your first order. It's a beautiful catalog.

The woman who runs the Shadowwood web site says that Sutton's has opened later and later every year.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Flower Fantasy (the Aitken website) will be open for orders March 1. Their 2004 website is open for browsing. And they have some beautiful miniature border bearded - in addition, of course to everything else. Great pictures.

I'm looking out at my yard and planning for my first Spring digging. Got lots to plant, but new snow fell again last night. :(

Denver, CO(Zone 5a)

Good Morning - My first post, new member here. My online Garden is sort of open. I haven't updated my pricing or updated my availability yet, should be current by April 1st, but I have posted my Introductions for 2005 and I have lots of garden pictures from this past year. Go to Garden Tour and click on Garden Presentation. I started hybridizing in 1998 and this will by my first class. As Jack Worel of Holly Lane Gardens in Mn. said I needed to get on the board and get my feet wet. Enjoy my site:

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Welcome Bob,

I've been cruising your website. You have some beautiful cultivars and I've got some on my list. Thanks for leaving it up through the winter so we could enjoy it..

Here's the link everyone.

Oro Valley, AZ(Zone 9a)

Also, now open for 2005 business is *Riverview Iris*.
http://www.riverview-iris-gardens.com/

I see they have put up a ..........Plants guaranteed "True to Name"............phrase on their site. Maybe, they have double checked on/and corrected many of their cultivars that were misnamed in the past.

Very nice Bob; lovely pictures.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Cooley's Iris Gardens says that they will have their website up around the first of March. You can order their catalog now. It's cost can be deducted from the first order. There are actually two catalogs. One has 100 of their cultivars on "special" and the other has 300 other cultivars. If you look at the website, all the cultivar names with the loving cup next to them are half the price from the quoted price. So don't get scared by the prices. I don't get why they do this but it's good to know while you're looking. If you plan on buying there it's worth it to get the catalog. They have a beautiful website but it's a little hard to navigate as there isn't really a picture gallery but a list of cultivars with a link to each photo. All Iris have links to their picture which is refreshing.

http://www.cooleysgardens.com/

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Just got my catalogs from Superstition Iris Gardens and Iris City Gardens today. If you can't find the links above - ask or use the Garden Watchdog. Iris City Gardens specializes in beardless Iris but carries some bearded.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Schreiner's on line catalog is open.

Rainbow Iris Farms is open. They have a five out of five positive rating on the watchdog.
http://www.rainbowfarms.net/

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

The Winslows site is up and running. They have a limited selection of favorites and award winners. No comments or ratings on the Watchdog.

http://thewinslows.com/pricesTtoZ.htm

By the way, Superstition Iris has a long list of $3.00 Iris in the back of the Catalog in addition to their other offerings.. Check it out!

And check carefully at Napa. Their prices seem about a dollar higher than some other sites but they do have some beautiful cultivars I haven't seen elsewhere. I love "Romantic Mood" and haven't really seen anything like it. The introductions are really beautiful. This hybridizer has a lot in it's future.

I met the owner of Rainbow Iris Gardens --now I feel REALLY OLD. He's not much more than a kid but really knows his stuff. I think I'll drive over to lilyfan & drag her down to the place with me. See, we DO grow more than corn in Iowa!

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Ah those young whippersnappers! I'm SO glad that they are out there in the fields growing Iris for us. I'm way beyond that kind of work. What got to me was when my daughter's friends started becoming MD's and Lawyers and real estate developers. Somehow they still look like they did in the sixth grade. :-)

More than corn? I guess build it and they will come. You may end up with NO corn in Iowa. And I do love corn. "Corny" but I couldn't resist when you threw that big cornfield at me.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Cooley's Gardens is now open for orders. Sadly, Tamara Kay is not listed.. Ever postive, however, I've sent them a note. Some lovely new cultivars to look at too.

Oro Valley, AZ(Zone 9a)

And Shepards Iris Garden is now open for 2005. I understand it'll be their last year in business. They are located in Phoenix, Arizona.

And a 10% discount if you order before April 30th.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am just itching to see my first 2005 iris bud...
