$25 off my First Breck's order?

Just got my catalog & they're giving me a gift certificate to get my business. I'm ogling the Tiger Lilies collection, maybe some Orientals. I haven't ordered from them--do they give good value?

i've ordered from the and have been very happy. i'm just now trying to decide what to order and not get to carried away lol.

Wanda, I ordered from Brecks last year and am still waiting on the order. Visa was charged $9 for shipping but no shipment. And no help from them.

Wanda - I think I've ordered from Breck's once or twice. The fact that I can't remember probably indicates it was neither a bust or over-the-top spectacular. I've gottent o the point that places like Brecks, Dutch Gardens, etc I will only buy bulbs. So, I'd gamble on lily bulbs from them especially if they are offering $25 off. How much do you have to buy to get the $25 off?

If that was the same catalogue I got, it seemed to me that everything was about 3 times as expensive as it should be!!!

It says $25 off any size order. Orders under $25 are free--just pay shipping.

Terre--Same offer to you and no order showed up? Hmmm. Maybe I'll call it in. You can always dispute a charge if you use a credit card. The credit card company is on YOUR side, not the merchant.

last year i used a gift certificate from them for $20 and i had no problems. i ordered some fancy daffodils and the asiatic 'italia' bulbs. they were average sized, what they advertised and healthy. the bulbs all came up nicely this spring/summer.
i believe most companies are consciensious. heck they want your business, but as with any business humans make mistakes and i know i have been one of those a few times. :-) if i have a repeat problem that is not taken care of i go to the supervisor.

I ordered the tiger lily collection last year and they bloomed wonderful for me.

58% on GW.......I'd say pass on them aftering seeing that. Although my comment still stands about ordering bulbs from them . Bulbs have been fine - not spectacular but fine. No better or worse than a Home Depot or Lowe's bulb IMHO.

I posted in the bulbs forum that they have a tulip named Daydream. It is supposed to bloom yellow and then turn to orange. It is also supposed to multiply - I am skeptical. Breck's, Gurney's, Stark Bros. and 2 others were all owned by the same company which ran their names into the ground and went bankrupt about 2 years ago. I don't know if they reorganized or if they were bought out but I have received a Gurney's catalog (went directly into the round file) and the Breck's catalog. I remember when Breck's was the premier dutch bulb company. Now I prefer John Scheeper's......

Van Engelen is good too and they are a sister company of Scheepers.

Well, maybe I'll use their coupon and that's all. I have hundreds of daffodils,& tulips already in.

Yes, Wanda, that was the offer. $25 off, pay shipping. And I used a debit card, so eventually I got my money back from the bank, but it was more hassle. They ran this same offer last year.

Wanda, I also used the coupon and ordered some lilies that I couldn't find any other place.
I have ordered from them before and always been satisfied with what I recd.

Y'all really need to look at the Garden Watchdog as darius suggested. The company that owned about six nurseries was bought by an "affiliated" company, Gardens Alive. Does that mean that some of the same folks bought themselves out of bankruptcy? Anyway, there's a lot of negative feedback there and some of it is recent. If you chose to give them a try, let us know what your results are.

I got that same offer from Breck's last spring. I spent $4. plus change for 35 tulip bulbs. got a confirmation and shipping date of Sept. something. Hope they arrive. This week I got a new catalog from them and the coupon was for $25 off an order of $50 or more. I'm passing on this one. I ordered Daydream last year from John Scheepers. It is a Darwin Hybrid so in theory it will come back.

wanda, a heads up on tiger lilies. you need to plant them away from all your other lilies. they often carry diseases and of course these can spread to your other lilies. i have mine down-wind in a corner of my yard where the stockade fence meets. unfortunately they have gotten borytis in that corner and i have no were else to move them too. i have a couple things to try. but anyways.................just wanted you to know about them carrying virus's easily.

I just received a Breck's catalog for 1/2 off their sale prices up to $1,000! Of course, this is a new customer offer and is only good until Sept. I have been drooling over the pictures but don't want to take a chance and spend too much. Maybe just two or three (five at the most).

I couldn't pass up the $25 off on one of the spring bulb collections, and gave it a try. The prices were DEFINETLY much higher by comparison, but the offer of $25 made it simply too good of a deal to pass up....and if anything goes wrong, I've only invested a few dollars of my own.

I received the $25 gift Certificate, I think I will get it a try not sure what I will get.

Last year I had the $25 free coupon, and used it. I only ordered bulbs, and they were pretty good, especially considering they were free. I got Dutch iris and such . . . nothing major.

This year I got a $25 off when you order $50. I'm passing. Since I can't do tulips and such, there isn't much in the catalog I want.

Good idea! Of coiurse, we won't really have much to report until the bulbs bloom next year...

We can start the report with the quality of the bulbs received or if we even get them. For instance, I gave them an early order weeks ago and have never received an acknowledgement or shipping date....

I ordered last week by phone & got an acknowledgement by email next day.

I got all my lilies from Breck's and I'd never had a problem. I think I have about 15 different kinds. They bloom beautifully. I just placed my first Orienpet order which would come in Spring. I can't wait.

I just ordered their multi colored tiger lilies. I can put them all in a long bed away from my other lilies.

I've ordered from them in the past, but always wait until I get one of the $20 coupons and don't order any thing but bulbs. They have always done OK for me.

I finally e-mailed and received my paid confirmation. However, they will not mail until much later in October.

Well, the Breck bulbs came last week & I buried them yesterday. I bought the 4 colors of tigerliles (pale orange, red, pink, yellow) to put with my old fashioneds. The bulbs were good sized & healthy & arrived on time.

Thanks for reporting that, Wanda. Makes me feel good about all the bulbs I ordered for my garden club at work! Should be getting them any day.

Thanks for the report, Wanda. My bulbs came about a month ago and look great! I couldn't remember which forum this was on, so just waited, knew someone would post sooner or later! duh me! I got 35 pastel tulip bulbs for $3.94 and they look really nice.

Well, I was digging up cannas & had plenty of holes. I ended up putting all the tigerlilies in the same bed. I've been told tigers & Orientals need to be seperated due to diseases. I love the tigers, so now they're isolated & I'll get to see all of them bloom.
