Morning Glories 2019 #02

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Guess I will clean out my feeders and get ready even though i think it will be a while b4 I see any hummers. Helena, I'm sure your hummer is the first of many.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

We have ruby throat and black chinned hummingbirds. I love watching them.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Linda, I've never seen a black chinned hummer.
I'll look on Google.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

They look like they have a black hood on. When the sun catches just right, his throat is purple.

This is one from a few years ago.

Jackie, I'm sure it is. Just the excitement of getting the first one.
Linda, I had a black chinned visit my yard many years ago in winter.
I take pics of a few every year. I knew someone that had a few different species visit every year in winter a few cities to the West. My gardening started with wanting plants to attract and feed hummers.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Linda, the Black chinned is a pretty hummer. At the audubon site I saw pics of his pretty purple throat and some pics showed his back feathers were a shimmery green,
really pretty. All we get here is the ruby throat but glad to have them.
Helena, I didn't realize that's why you got into gardening. Now you enjoy hummers and your gardening. :-)

Gautier, MS

Now a days I only get ruby throats too Jackie.
I probably would have a lot less work if I didn't garden but I enjoy having birds in my yard so I'll keep gardening while I can.
Blooms from 2016. I'm anxious to get my my mgs blooms.

Beautiful blooms Helena, I want to grow Flying Saucers again this yr, I really
enjoyed it last summer. I'm anxious to start a few mg's too.
We've had so much rain, I'm afraid that its rotted my large pandy tuber. i'll
know in a month or so.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Helena, those are beautiful blooms.

Gautier, MS

Thanks Jackie and Linda. I'm going to grow flying saucer again too. The blooms are neat not to.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Helena, definitely one of my favorites. Love Blue Star too.
I loved your cross of BS and FS.

Gautier, MS

Thanks Jackie. I bought a dark Flying Saucer seeds from Lowes a week or two ago.
Starting to look a some seeds to start soaking again. Got some good rain for the plants last night and this morning. Kind of cool here too.
Blooms from 2014 that I want to grow again this year.

Oh, those are gorgeous Helena. Is # 3 Saz?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I agree. Those are beautiful blooms.

Gautier, MS

Thanks Jackie and Linda. Yes #3 is Saz, might even be your lav. Saz Jackie.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Helena, Its so hard to get seeds from Sazanami. Last yr I only got 2 sds
from Blue Saz.

Gautier, MS

Jackie, I know the rarer the bloom the harder they are to produce seeds. Sometimes without pollen. When I do grow one the vines were weak too.
It's been cool here these last couple to days so I haven't checked my seedlings in ghouse. Still need lots to get into bigger pots.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Helena, I'm way behind in potting up my overgrown tropicals in the g house. Not to
mention I would like to get at least 10 mg sds started. With dh only at 50%, don;t know how I can get everything done that I need to. Just going with the flow here

Time for a new thread. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1500725
