My greenhouse in the background is still wearing its solar pool cover, not for the cold, but to protect the roof from hail and some branches I need to cut down.

Trust me, I would share in a heartbeat if I could get up from being sprawled in a sunbeam, sigh, feels so good.
It was a gorgeous spring day in Oxdrift today. We had a strange winter with a lot of freeze/thaw and winter rains which resulted in a thick layer of ice under the snow. That all finally melted off the bed in the front yard that I started transitioning to a perennial bed last fall by planting a bunch of spring bulbs. At the end of the day I could already see the tips of something coming up. I had been afraid that all that ice the first winter may have done them in but looks promising. Hopefully I can soon share
Keith, I had a lot of Tulip bulbs heaved out of the ground, I had to go out and hide them again from squirrels. I'm still waiting to wallow in sunbeams here, I'm so jealous or Texans right now.
That sucks. I have had a few Asiatic Lily tubers heaved out of the ground in the past but all my new plantings from last fall are still below the surface

Last of my tulip bulbs seem to have succumbed to heat. I am not buying more, unless I have lots of time and a separate bulb refrigerator
A recent addition to the White Flower Garden.
Gypsy ~ I lost a lot of tulip bulbs to our extreme weather this year. All that money went into the garbage bin. I was able to save these and a few others, which I put into pots, as it was either raining or snowing when I should have been planting. Even though I put these in as late as March 3rd!!! Some in pots are also coming up. Some we're planted in November, but then it started snowing and I did not get to the bulbs until February and March. So since the ground was too wet (in general) I just put what I could salvage into pots. There was 2 days when it was dry, and that is when I put the white ones in. The next day, more rain.

I never lost an entire plant from the heaving out. It was as if they were smaller, shallower baby ones maybe

I forgot it. oh the one everyone thinks is a sweet potato? I dug it up a little but it is right next to a really nice perfume grade passionflower so I was careful not to hurt those roots. had a brown root about half an inch in diameter for the top inch, then I quit digging. the leaves are more greenish now, not purple anymore. I don't buy ornamental sweet potatoes and that root didn't look like one of mine.
Those were 2nd year tulips Evelyn, I refrigerated the year I bought them, planted in pots in january, about 2/3 of the them bloomed in 2016. Dug up and put in bag in bathroom closet and forgot to refrigerate again. I'm not buying more tulips
Bought 2 dahlia bulbs at winco foods for $1.98 apiece. I have better luck with theirs than with home depot. and they were nice and dry when I planted them.
Peonies not budding out, but I saw someone else's in bloom this week. going to feed them again.
Bronx might last another week or 10 days. I don't want to have to leave him at home when I work and come home to find that he has died. He's still taking walks and jumping in the truck but he is itchy and chewing his foot and pretty grouchy and has a mass in his abdomen. He went to work with me today. Will probably go tomorrow. But when it gets hot again I can't take him.
Oh poor baby Bronx, my heart breaks for him. He looks uncomfortable. I was blessed to be holding both of my dogs when they passed. I'm sorry both of you are going through this heartache Gypsi.
He is doing better today. increased antihistamine kept up, pain meds pretty much a fail, I upped his turmeric paste and am giving pumpkin to help his bowels tolerate more. He is in pretty good spirits.
My DD gave her dying dog a cannabinoid oil for cancer pain. The effects were impressive. I can find out exactly what it was if you're interested.
I am in Texas and it is relatively difficult, expensive, and possibly illegal to bring into the state. the pain I have managed, it is the itching. but I do thank you. I can't be home to give meds, am going into the rush time of getting work done before it is too hot, can't afford to leave him at the vet so they can give meds, and he does have cancer, and it is terminal. So we are enjoying this weekend, and I am off Monday and tuesday. I will be with him Tuesday afternoon, and he will be cremated. I've been on duty since Sept 8 2014 on the cancer and he's done amazingly well. It's just growing faster, and he is now an old dog, he wasn't then. He is 10 years old and weighs 100 lbs. That's a not bad age for a big dog.
We went into town and visited my youngest daughter today, and walked around the block with her 6 year old daughter, and he got a hot dog for lunch (no bun) and bits of a very tasty hamburger for a before his dinner snack. He is enjoying his last week pretty thoroughly

Some annuals and perennials for my white flower border. And of course, tomatoes. I finally moved most of the tomatoes into individual pots and put them in the basement under lights.

There are seedlings in lots of containers all over the back porch. Also late-blooming bulbs and one plant order put in one gallon pots. The back porch is my potting shed/greenhouse. Hardly any room to walk.
I can't give up on Bronx yet. Meeting a sitter, vet tech and ACO tomorrow, going to take him to her when I work long days. I think we are all going to be happy with the solution, garden pics tomorrow afternoon. They. Are in the computer

I'm so sorry for what you and Bronx are going thru. My Duke was with me for almost 17 yeas and I'll never get another dog. I worked i the yard all day SUnday and had some sort of an "attack" this am putting on panty hose! I almost went to ER, ther were thre of them I passed on the way to work, should have gone in but thought oh hell it's just an anxiety attack. I am having a real hard time adjusting to losing my title, salary and being asked to accept third of the income for same duties. anyway, Happy Birthday to me, ekg shows I am in trouble, and my birthday will be spent at a heart specialist place. *sigh* Meanwhile, half of the plants have been brought up, and half are still down there, and now I can't hardly move without my chest hurting, so I am selling and giving everything away. If you want any of my stuff, it will be priced cheap, and you will have to pay shipping. I'll send you a hue dahlia two toned, Alice. Just cuz you are growing them. May 17th will be a whole year without lighting a cigarette, a lot of good that did, eh? oh well, at least I avoided the dreaded oxygen machine they wanted me to be on a year ago. These figs were yummy, the fig is loaded down there with about 50 more growing. New oleander bloomed all winter, still blooming. Virginia blue bells are almost done, as is the spirea and nanking cherry. I have totally missed Spring, I think.
Robin ~ It has been a challenge to try to get work done outside as there are weeds everywhere, but who can weed when it is snowing or raining? I have finished the new strawberry bed, that is taking out the strawberries out of the white flower border. Yes, they had white flowers, but they just kept multiplying. So I keep working outside in between storms. We are supposed to get more rain this week, and tomorrow I have an appointment, so I went out late in the day when most of the wind died down. Yes, I am grateful that the drought is over, but this is going overboard with so much rain. So when there is a storm outside, I "go to seed"! My back porch is filled with bulbs in pots and seedlings in cell packs. Also, the tomato seedlings are downstairs in the basement under lights and in my bedroom, I have 2 shelves with seedlings on heat mats. Those I put there the ones that require heat.
I have not yet removed all the strawberries, as there were more than I had room for in the new beds, so after the weather clears up (again!), I will ask my neighbors to take the rest. The white violets have intermingled with the strawberries, so I had to keep pulling them out.

Hi joeswife,Its very tough what you are experiencing with your heart and your breathing.Try not to give up most of your gardening hobby.Gardening is supposed to be great therapy.My Hubby experienced 2 heart attacks and he has 6 Stents.The first was at age 57 for 4 Stents and the second at 63 with 2 Stents and he is still an avid golfer because that's his hobby.Hope matters improve for you.It was 81 degrees here yesterday and my Crocuses are still blooming .My hyacinths and daffodils are blooming and I also pruned my Roses .

Debra, this too shall pass. They will patch you up, hopefully Joe can keep everything alive til you can ENJOY them again. He will probably do a better job than I could.
Bronx is ok, going in for a medicine add - probably - in a half hour. Here are a few pictures from sunday's garden. I was waiting to hear back from a dog sitter, who I think will do ok with Bronx, she is a vet tech, and is used to big dogs. I worked in the flower bed and garden to pass the time.
Asparagus falling over my Jacob's Cattle Beans, drought swiss chard in front (forgot the seeds were there, they didn't germinate til the beans were in) Onions bulbing, I have since pulled the weeds.
Cleaned up front flower bed., from the west and the east. Strawberries against the oregano and the porch in the view from the east. My big red rose, not quite a Don Juan but as close as I could get.
