A few pics from this afternoon:
1) The bee doesn't mind that this Monarda fistulosa bloom is fading.
2) Tall Purple Coneflower and (I think) Heliopsis helianthoides (False Sunflower; Ox-eye Daisy) with Geranium 'Rozanne' in the background
3) Liatris spicata, Shasta Daisy 'Becky' and short Purple Coneflower
4) Rudbeckia hirta 'Indian Summer'
5) Rudbeckia fulgida 'Goldsturm' and Liatris spicata 'Floristan White'

FIRST FLOWERS OF SUMMER 2015
So many pretty flowers!!
Loretta, I love Acidanthera but keep forgetting to buy them
Thanks Jeff...........grr ................! I'll have to post a pink ROS bloom for you, don't think it started yet.
Hey Muddy, is that the purple liatris I gave you? It looks pretty good!
Muddy, your yard looks so nice!
I should have recognized Sweet Dreams, CAM. I've tried it before but it never overwintered. Your blooms looked bigger than the one I had so I was wondering if it was a newer one. Supposedly there have been some hardy cultivars released.
GT, maybe a squirrel moved one for you. Do they reseed true?
Sequoia, Lilium leichlinii is adorable and Heather Marie is like bubblegum! So pretty!
Some color from my neck of the woods:
1--BES now taking over in my small, front bed.
Bottom left--a self-seeded Giant Purple Amaranth.
2--corner of my small front bed--colors from various plants growing together
3--SEVEN blooms on my Orienpet Lily on the kitchen side. WHO gave me this bulb in 2013?
It was at the same time I got my 3 bulbs of the Crocosmia. Catmint--was it you?
4--Top WB on my side steps on kitchen side. Love the way it fills up--so fast!
5--Two blooms of my Mauve DL. I only have 2 clumps of this one.
They are pretty much choked over by the red Lilies
A couple more items.....
1--Monarda--"Raspberry Wine" (?) from last Swap
2--The other Monarda--Red--also from last Swap. Is this the one I was
concerned that it would become invasive??? Robin--was this from you?
I stuck it in the back of my YUK bed...
3--Jeff--this is for you. You asked me what exposure the Kitchen Side bed had.
I said--full AM sun until about 3PM.
Here is the AM/East side of my house, See the mowed grass line? That is as far as
my property goes. The bed with the Phlox and the 7-bloom Orienpet Lily--and the 2 ferns--
and the big cluster of purple Phlox all co-exist in this bed-right behind the black railing.
as does my Endless Summer Hydrangea. Small--but productive.
In front you can see the WS bed at the end of my driveway--which now hosts my "Big Pot".
4--Here is a straigh-on view of my Kitchen-Side bed---still evolving...
5--Here is "Felicia's Phlox". The poke she grows against is 6' tall. This is a very small bed
at the corner of my patio--right behind where my grill sits.
Just getting some of you "oriented" to my garden.
Gita, I think the lady who shared the lily bulbs in photo #3 was nuts4daylilies, one of the folks who came to Jan's from Maine if I recall correctly. We have some from her as well that are in bloom now.
Lots of great flowers in bloom. Those pink phlox are especially striking.
Looking very nice Gita!
Yes, Gita, I am the one who gave you the red monarda. I love that coleus in the first picture you posted, great color on that one.
Sequoia, you gave me some of the Liatris spicata; others were ones grown from plugs I got from North Creek. I can't remember which were which!
Ok I didn't know the whole name. I don't think they got enough sun for me. Also, I think earwigs got to a couple of the stems.
Pat--thank you! I never pay too much attention on where I got something from--
unless I had asked for it--then I can go back to the Swap records and see.
The Lily is beautiful--and SOOO fragrant!
The other Orienpet Lily--the one that bloomed earlier-I bought the bulb from
one of the Catalogs--same time I bought the "Trumpet Lilies". Maybe 2010?
G.
I had a problem with rabbits eating Liatris spicata last year, so your plants helped fill in some gaps really nicely; thanks, Sequoia.
David, Jeff, Susan, Gita, Holly...thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures!
Signed, The Slacker
Just FYI----------
Saw these at HD today and they caught my attention.
Such brilliant colors! I assume these are Crepe Myrtles?
Never seen these before. (One is bluer--the other deep red).
The tag said:
First Edition...(something like that...)
"Purple Magic"
Lagerstroemia PPAF--"Delta Jazz".
2 gal pots--$27.98.
Gita
that is the fancy name for crepe myrtle
Sally--and these really ARE fancy looking!
Deep plum-colored stems and foliage and the deep colored blooms!
g;
Those lilies are really nice Holly. I like the mottling that's on some of them.
Beautiful lilies, Holly! That first crown, is the background color like a creamy yellow?
Gita, I saw those crepe myrtles on clearance last year and I was so tempted except I didn't know where I was going to put them. The dark stems really dress them up.
Slacker - west coast version - checking in...

Ah, Yosemite! Perfect spot for slackers. Sorry you couldn't be crusin with the top down....
"This grand show is eternal.
It is always sunrise, somewhere;
the dew is never all dried at once;
a shower is forever falling; vapor ever rising.
Eternal sunrise, eternal sunset,
eternal dawn and gloaming,
on seas and continents and islands,
each in its turn,
as the round earth rolls."
- John Muir
Nice photo of you and Marianne, VV; thanks for sharing.
I had to read about Abies equi-trojani to see how it got its name (equi-trojani = Trojan Horse)...apparently because it is native to an area near Troy, Turkey and some think its wood might have been used to build the Trojan horse. Interesting!
That IS interesting Muddy, thanks for the research.
A couple things....nothing spectacular....
1--White Easter cactus blooming--Hmmm...Easter is long gone!
2--Bee on Liatris bloom
3--My "Monster DL" has been ID'd as: "Hemerocallis fulva "Flove Pleno"
by HazelCrestMike 1-7-15
4--YES! My red Phlox has survived in my Shed bed. hope it rows into a big bunch.
5--This little "Pineapple Wizzard" Coleus is awesome! This year--it was available
in market-packs at Chapel Hill. Wasabi Coleus competitor....

First, a couple of plants I've just put in the dirt within the past couple of weeks.
1. Zepherine Drouhin climbing roses. No flowers when they arrived but already have grown a couple of inches and have several blooms on them.
2. Malva Zebrina that were nothing more than a couple of sticks with not a single leaf on them when I got them and planted them. If they look like this after two weeks, can't wait to see what they look like in two months.
And here's a couple of shots of plants I put in about six weeks ago.
3. Creeping petinias are covered in blooms.
4. Tricolor sedum is about to break out in blooms all over. Stay tuned. :)
Very nice Gita and CAM. Gita, your liatris look like quite a stand. You should post pics when they are in full bloom.
First swallowtail sighting here today, on Bottlebrush buckeye. Jeff, I have pink ROS to post for you, need time to get on the phone and do it.
Jeff--
This, and 3 more, clumps of Liatris are in my neighbor Olga's bed tht faces my house.
She said i could dig up at least one of the clumps--and i will do so when it is
done blooming. She said it is encroaching too much on her Hydrangea.
I will try to talk her out of two clumps. They all are massive! I am envious....
I have a small clump of it in my YUK bed--but it does not thrive there...
it only has a few stems...I can' barely see it. Not everything likes this bed....too tight.
Here--I will go out and take some pictures of Olga's bed...
1--All 4 clumps with Hydrangea between them. They sure have spread!
2--Two clumps at the corner end of the bed
3--Blooms--close-up
4--My Liatris in my YUK bed. It gas been in here for about 4 years. Pathetic!!!
5--Glad to see my red Phlox made it...it is in my Bed-by-the-Shed.
Looks like there is another color one there too.
I am re-posting this picture for you so you can get the idea of Olga's bed
on the left--You can see how close the homes are here to each other...
house-to-house...wall-to-wall---maybe 25'-30'.
She seldom comes around on this side,,,I weed and water this bed for her.
Many times I plant things in it if i cannot find a place for something.
G.
Wow, I bet those are really pretty Gita. I gave mine to Muddy because it didn't do super well in the location I had it in. I think it wanted more sun.
Sally, the bottlebrush buckeye you gave me should begin blooming soon. It hasn't grown any new leaves and they always seem to be a little droopy but it's holding its own. It is in full sun from 1030-6. I just threw it in the ground to establish its roots a little but might move it when we get a shed and put it next to that where it will be more shade.
VV, glad to see you pop in; you and the Mrs. are certainly a lovely couple. :) Great shot of that big @ss artichoke field... had always wondered how they grow/what they look like, had yet to bother looking into it. ;)
Gita, WOW those Liatris are fabulous! Here's a couple shots of mine in a pot out back.. guess they'd be happier in the ground, huh?
The first shot shows quite a lot of the "left side" bench out back, with the Liatris being all the way at the left.
Second shot is a close-up of my favourite Coleus, Liatris peeking out from behind her.
Muddy, that is really cool info about that Abies, thank you for checking and sharing. Always learning something interesting here. :)
