Let's See New Lilies Sprouting #4

(Mary) Anchorage, AK(Zone 4b)

Maybe so, but awwwwfuuulllly slow.....

Pleasant Prairie, WI

DonnaMack: Many lilies out of sequence here--Its the first time I've seen that. More than enough to just notice--its there! And all this with 2, 3and 4 year old well established plants. I've got Asiatics, LAs, Trumpets, OTs out today. Others that should have bloomed by july 4th won't be out for another week. I'm finally back in circulation now after this latest bout of storms . No electricity for 3 days straight and 1 day another. Lots of cleanup and some lily damage by flying branches--but fortunately none of my favorites. Did you have any damage?

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Roosterlorn, I wondered if others were seeing it. Now I have two Orientals in bloom, while the Asiatics, Orienpets, Trumpets continue. My LA's haven't appeared yet, but this is weird. I take lots of dated photos so I know when things bloomed. I have an Asiatic, Jubileo, that has been blooming for weeks. Year after year the rabbits bit it down in spring, so this is the first year in about 6 that it has bloomed and reached its full height. It's throwing a party for itself. It has numerous buds that are opening in sequence.

The damage issue here is very spotty. I had no damage at all. I didn't even lose power. Some communities with trees (Libertyville) still haven't recovered. But communities built on farmland (Grayslake) experienced power outages for several days. The city of Chicago got trounced. Many people MAY have power on the weekend. On one block in Grayslake, a person's attic was completely flooded, and another had an uprooted tree, but the houses in between experienced no damage. I didn't realize the extent of it until I drove around and found many traffic light out in other communities, or watched television. A truly freaky storm.

Donna, the storm was really bad here; trees and power lines down everywhere. Anyway, the lilies I got from Judith Freeman(LAST FALL) are doing great. Seafarer, Summer Palace and Ice Follies are blooming. Sinfonia and Fanfare in a day or two. Everybody likes Seafarer. I've taken about 340 pictures and hopefully I can get some posted soon.

I love Geraffe Mine is new too.Itreached 5 and 1/2 feet

I got Giraffe from The Lily Garden along with other last year and remember when it had its first bloom last summer it really didn't appeal to me. Then this year it got nice and tall and the bloom just wowed me.

Thanks daylilydreams. I was wondering where I could find it.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Same experience as I had. The height makes it just outstanding.

(Mary) Anchorage, AK(Zone 4b)

I was working on a Lily Garden order as a result of this thread and got called away. Mayhap a good thing as I was on a serious roll.....lol

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Ah, but what excellent taste!

(Mary) Anchorage, AK(Zone 4b)

I looked at American Meadows inspite of mixed history with them. Decided not. Right now I am up to my ears in poppies. I try to hand labels on them so I can separate the seeds but they all start being just a 'titch' different so I should just stick with white, purple, lavender, black, red, etc

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I cant recomend American Meadows for anything but bulbs .Their entile plant order came dead.

(Mary) Anchorage, AK(Zone 4b)

Yeah. I have had a few go arounds with them. Traded a couple of emails with the owner. He ended up sending me a gift cert for $50 above and beyond replacing plants. One managed to survive. Nice guy, but...

this is just an old garden variety lily but the first to bloom in my garden; thought the composition was rather nice

wow, what a glorious color combination

Stamford, CT(Zone 6b)

Mary, the composition IS lovely. Are those platycodon (balloon flower)? That lily is very pretty. I'm guessing you have about 4 more weeks of lilies coming. Ours are just on the tail end, and a few are still opening, but the platycodon blooms are larger this year than I recalled.

Our big container lilies did not do well even though they had a great start, either from blocked drainage or beetles or both. The lily beetles did a tremendous amount of damage once physical therapy destroyed my back and I could not spray. Back is somewhat better, but the damage is done.

Are your oriental lilies opening or just asiatics?

Ge1836, your lilies are lovely. Nothing beats Orientals and Orienpets for beauty and fragrance. Enjoy!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

thanx

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

They really are lovely. The lilies are busting out at ge's. And don't you love Acapulco? I got my first one as a gift from B&D and went back for more!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Those bonuses - they always lead to more sales.

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

They're not dumb!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Ohhhhh yeassss.

(Mary) Anchorage, AK(Zone 4b)

Part of the logic of ordering from TLG is wondering what really nice bonus I will get. I only ordered 7 types (3 of each).
