Goldfish plant

Lexington, KY(Zone 6A)

I have a book called "Taylor's Guide to Houseplants" and it has a picture of a plant called a goldfish plant (columnea hirta). The blooms are orange and look like goldfish jumping. I love the look of it. Does anyone know where I could find a plant, or some seed? No one locally has them.
Thanks.

I wound up getting mine at K-mart in February/March. I t is a very interesting plant. Needless to say though I wound up killing it :(
I wish I could be more help.

Hi Angie,
With this link, scroll down to Nematanthus. You'll go past Columneas too. Some of both are given the common name of goldfish plant.

At this second site, you'll see photos of them... it's just a reference. You too may become Gesneri-addicted...

And this is where we Gesneri-addicts meet...

There are likely to be more links there.
ooh. hope this isn't too much info.
To keep them going, bright light (not necessarily all sun, mine like the east window) and "PERFECT DRAINAGE" are important. I use 1part bagged potting soil, 1part vermiculite, and 1part perlite. The AGGS site will have stuff from more experienced addicts. hth, perL
