So nice to see everyone's lovely fall colors. My many tree leaves all were frozen mid-October except the birch and they are falling fast. So I am really enjoying my trip via DG to see nice fall color.

Thanks, Donna

Dybbuk, I also like the dawn redwood's fall foliage (mine is the straight species).
This shot is from last year. I think the contrast is very interesting.

Caught my Kwanzan Cherry for the first time. I'm really bad, I never noticed it's fall color before. Notice also the trees behind it. Do you think we get a little westerly winds out here? I have a crooked, wild fence row of self-sown, Ashes. The farmer probably isn't too happy that I let the trees take over. He looses a row of corn every year. The DOA came out and checked the trees for Ash borers, so far so good.

OK, here's some of mine to share. It's been a beautiful fall, and right now, we're enjoying an extended Indian Summer. Even with leafless trees, it's wonderful. Guess which tree or shrub this one is. (I'll identify it on the following entry, and continue for the rest. I've got a bunch!)

The previous was 'Gro Low' sumac.

This one should be easy!

Did you guess. It's Cornus florida 'Cherokee Princess' dogwood.

Another easy one now.

The previous was a full-moon Japanese maple. The JMs have been spectacular this fall.

Now, yet another easy one.

Yep, sugar maple. Here's another sugar maple with interesting contrasting coloration on the same tree.

This one is one I can't identify. Perhaps someone can for us. Perhaps a black gum tree?

Here's a really striking photo, I think. Can you identify it?

The previous photo was of a smoke tree branch above some yellow mums. I really like the composition.

Here's one more... a shrub that is one of my favorites. Guess?

Oh heck, I can't resist two more. This Japanese maple was so striking, but I can't remember the cultivar. I think it's either 'Crimson Queen' or 'Everred'.

And finally, for sure, another of my all-time favorite shrubs... can anyone guess what it is?

The last one is a Fothergilla; the one after the smoke tree is a Viburnum x burkwoodii, probably 'Mohawk'.

Here's a fresh one right out of Terre Haute today - Acer rubrum 'October Glory'.

Right on both, Viburnum Valley. The 'October Glory' maples are about the only colorful trees left in Central Indiana this week. They sure are striking!

Not a tree or shrub, but some nice and welcome "fall foliage" colors for this time of the year.

We've been having a wonderful Indian Summer in our area, like much of the midwest, I imagine.
I took a November stroll through my yard this past weekend and took a bunch of pix of fall color.
Here are the ones I thought were the nicest.
First is acer palmatum Koto Ito Komachi, a thread-leaf variety.

Great JM photos, Weerobin. How many JMs do you have?

Saint Louis, MO(Zone 6a)

I don't know anymore, maybe 25 or so, combining a palmatum / japonicum / shirasawarum, etc.
I lost about 60-70% of the acer palmatums in the devastating late spring frost a couple years ago.
I lost several 10+ ft fairly mature JM's, as well as a bunch of smaller ones.
It was so heartbreaking, I haven't planted another palmatum since then.
The japonicums and shirasawarums fared much better, so I guess I'll stick with them.

That was a nasty late freeze here in Indianapolis, too. I lost two large 'Bloodgood' JMs, but a large 'Crimson Queen' that got killed back to what I thought was a complete loss actually sprouted from the main branches and now looks great again. The odd thing with this plant though is that it doesn't hold its red color as well during the summer like it used to. Very strange. Same location, etc. but it's like it's a different plant!

Your area was surely "more along" than we were, so the damage must have been even more severe than here.
Sad memories for sure. It does look like you still have a wonderful collection!
