Nice photography! Your unknown I would guess is Buggy in nature, 'Salsa' maybe? 'Pretty Girl'?

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

lovely, Pixie. It's official, I'm getting Sumatra this year.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

You'll love 'Sumatra' wickerparker. It holds its blossoms for a long time too.

Ripon, WI(Zone 4a)

Nice pictures, Pixie! I haven't visited here in a while and am enjoying all these beauties! My season is pretty close to being over for the year now.

St. John's, NL(Zone 5b)

Oriental season is just getting under way in the northern parts of North America. My first to bloom is Mona Lisa

Thank you very much! I've been really stressed with Wedding arrangements and now the heat has finally decided to show up. We've had days mostly in the 70's , a few in the 80's all summer long. It's been 90 here(I live in the country) and 97 in the city for the last 4 days. I need groceries soon but aren't gonna get them if this keeps up. lol

So I have to show you this...I need to move 'Lavender Gem'(above ) near this rose "Angel Face' as they are both blooming now.

Love that 'Red Hot' Todd.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Oh...I just fell in love with Red Hot!!

Jamaica Plain, MA(Zone 6a)

It IS a beauty, but Nanny, I've been noticing that you fall in love quite often!

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

pixie, your Lily collection is awesome!

Todd, that's the deepest coloring I've seen on Red Hot- gorgeous!

St. John's, NL(Zone 5b)

I think the cool climate in my region enhances flower colours.

Red Hot is wonderful!

Is this Sumatra? That's how it was marked in the florist shop, but it looks different than other pictures here. Color on my monitor is pretty true. This is the one I want!

nice job with that shot Pirl!!

Thanks, Susan and Allison. It is a very photogenic lily but most are.

wickerparker - that's a beauty. I wish mine had bloomed that dark but they didn't as you can see in this photo.

wickerparker, I noticed when I worked as a floral designer that the cut Lilies we got from wholesalers were often more intensely colored than the same variety grown in the garden. Often it was a striking difference, I think due to the controlled conditions they're grown in, under shade cloth to prevent fading. So I think that could well be Sumatra, but I'd expect it to look more like Pirl's pic in the garden. Rio Negro is the darkest Oriental I've grown (and looks much closer to your pic), and endured the hot sun better than some other dark ones.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Great post, Neal. I'll buy Rio Negro on your recommendation. I wanted one as dark as the photo wickerparker showed.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Pirl! I found Rio Negro difficult to photograph, either the sun washed out all the colors in the pic or the blooms were so dark you couldn't see them. The best of the 2 situations was the washed out pic (below), but the color is much deeper to they eye than this pic translates. I never could get a decent pic of the combo, but they were striking with Dizzy and 'David' Phlox. Now I have them planted in front of a Mock Orange, but I plan to move them to a position with a light background in hopes of making the color pop.

Sometimes using the aperture setting at various numbers from high to low will help. I've used that quite often this year.

I also have mine with David phlox!

Thanks for the great input! Another difference is that the cut flower here has frilly edges, and no white margins.... though maybe that's to do with the coddling it's gotten too. The bloom is just so gorgeous, I can't stop staring it.

Pirl, don't forget about Dark Sensation, which hopefully Faraway will have soon...?

St. John's, NL(Zone 5b)

I've never seen any local orientals as dark as these...stunning!
