Comments regarding Bluestone Perennials

Based on the otherwise positive comments I had seen here, I had expected small plants from Bluestone, but they were as large as any I have seen locally and larger than most. Some were already blooming, and all were beautiful and healthy. The prices and the selection were much better than I can get in my area, and I was impressed with their recycling program.

I ordered for the first time from this company based on the many positive reviews on Gardenwatchdog.com. I also liked the fact that they have preplanned gardens; I had intended to purchase Spring Hill's preplanned gardens, but the bad reviews that I have read about them steered me towards Bluestone. I purchased Bluestone's preplanned border garden and various other plants.

The plants arrived in great condition, carefully packaged in styrofoam peanuts; I do wish they had used organic starch styrofoams instead. The plants came with detailed instructions for care; I followed all the instructions and waited a few days before planting. I planted the plants several days ago and they are thriving, despite the rather chilly and windy weather that we have been having of late. The border garden has so many plants in it that it took me more than three hours to plant all of them. As a beginner gardener, I felt a great sense of accomplishment.

I highly recommend Bluestone Perennials without any reservation. Their customer service is great and the plants are of the highest quality. I will definitely purchase more plants from this nursery next year.

I ordered from Bluestone Perennials for the first time this year. The plants I ordered arrived on schedule; I was a little concerned about them being shipped FedEx Ground, and they did look a little stressed when they arrived. But I followed the instructions provided--watered them, put them in filtered shade--and the next day, they had perked up. As per the instructions, I waited several days to plant them. It's been about a week now, that they've been in the ground, and all look healthy and thriving. They actually look better than the plants I bought at a local nursery and planted at the same time. I am very happy with the order, and would order from this company again.

I received my first order from Bluestone Perennials this st week and was just THRILLED! The size of the plants that I ordered was impressive as was the care in packaging.

I had contacted the company twice before receiving this order to make additions and subtractions -a real pain in the neck! Their customer service is the absolute best. I do appreciate their patience and kindness.

I ordered twice last year Sept & Oct. Out of a total of 175 bulbs and 39 plants, only 7 plants did not come back up this year. I called on 4/7/04 and had my 7 replacement plants on 4/9/04. I also had the same great delivery service on the 2 full orders last year. Customer service has been very easy to deal with and I feel that I have had a great experience with this company. Would order from them again without a second thought.

I can't add more to the accolades for Bluestone than the 215 people before me, but I'll summarize. Healthy plants, excellent packaging, fantastic communication. You must buy from them at least once and you'll find yourself going back again and again every season.

A+++++ I have ordered from Bluestone Perennials for several years now. I love them. The plants I get from them are fabulous. Last year I ordered numerous shrubs from them. When they arrived they were very small and I was somewhat skeptical. By the end of summer, they had grown almost to full size. On the few occasions when I have had problems with orders, they have sent replacements with no questions asked. This company is absolutely fabulous to deal with. I highly recommend them.

Excellent! I have received many orders via internet or by phone. All arrived in good condition. Purchasers should understand that plants do not always arrive in full flushed growth, but in my California climate, they quickly sprout out and grow.

Pleased with the size and the quality of the perennials I received last week.

I ordered from Bluestone in February, and asked them to choose the best time for shipment. I'm new to this zone, so I relied on their best judgement. My plants arrived last week, complete with a full "how to plant" explanation sheet, a variety of coupons for later purchases, and well-labeled plants. Each of the plants arrived in great condition, roots wrapped all around the plastic pots.

Wow. Everything arrived promptly, carefully packed, and is thriving already. They had several mum varieties I couldn't find locally, and a honeysuckle I'd been looking for.

I absolutely LOVE this company. Unfortunately, it was after I had already spent hundreds of dollars at White Flower Farm, but that is another story. I bought asters, malva, phlox, delphiniums, dianthus, yarrow, catmint, daylillies. I love that most come in packs of three. I cut back the phlox and the asters like the directions said, and they branched out and everything bloomed the first season (2003). The dianthus bloomed from May to October just like they said and didn't quit till frost. If you don't mind that the plants are small when they arrive (that was a little scary at first), everything will thrived & if it doesn't, they will replace it. Also, I love that they recycle and offer free shipping for your time to do that. Nothing came bare root (which doesn't seem to work as well) everything was in pots, carefully packaged. I will continue to order from them. A++++++++

What can I say or add to all the positive testimonials? Just one more vote of postitive experience. Excellent products, great shipping policy (free if you ship the packing back to them), one of the best out there. Like the fact that they're not swallowed up by the biggies.

I had placed an order for approx 100 dollars worth of plants.. What they shipped in the fall..(Im zone 6) looked healthy. I will update on their progress in the spring. I just received a reminder that my other plants will be arriving this spring. They seem to have a good follow up.. will up date on those also.

Bluestone has taken a lot of my money (given willingly, of course) over the past 5 years, and in return they've given me a lot of fine plants at an excellent price. I have been pleased with every transaction and can recommend Bluestone without reservation.

In the spring of 2003 I ordered the Bluestone Perennial Border which consisted of 24 varieties, 59 plants. The plants all arrived very well packaged and in healthy shape. I was thrilled to see that by the end of the summer and into the fall every single plant had thrived and bloomed profusely! My yard has become a showcase for the neighborhood and this garden was truly a delight to all. I will definitely continue to order from this high quality company. Their very reasonable prices are an added bonus.

I would give two positive votes if I could: one for the performance of their plants (although small, they have never failed to bloom, usually in their first year). The second vote would be for their customer service, which extends well beyond their 800 number to free shipping in exchange for the return of recyclable packing materials, promptness, web specials, early summer sales and the outstanding courtesy, helpfulness and patience of their customer service staff.

I am a new gardener and was lucky to accidentally happen across a reference to Bluestone Perennials. I ordered their starter garden and was totally pleased with the results I got. My plants arrived in wonderful condition! (I could even tell this as an amateur). Everything grew well and as I read about the plants I had purchased and learned how to care for them they even did better. Luckily I am within 50 miles of Bluestone and I am looking forward not only ordering from their beautiful catalog but also to visiting their gardens. Beginner gardeners, look to Bluestone to give you the start that you want and deserve.

Thumbs up for Bluestone, have not ordered in the last two years, since the last purchases were so prolific, I must keep deviding. They have some new Sedum introductions, So this year will be giving them a call.

What can I say that hasn't already been said? The best perennials and shrubs for the money that you can buy! Compare their "wine and roses" weigela ($5.75 catalog, $3.83 current sale) to Wayside Gardens ($19.95). I'm sure the Wayside is a little bit bigger, but not that much bigger! My initial wish list of 16 perennials and 8 shrubs that I have selected for spring sub-totals for less than $80! And it's all well-packaged, quality merchandise.

Bluestone has the best mail order plants I've ever seen. The quality is excellent and the size is just as described. Definatley a healthier plant than you will ever find at a discount store (or some high end plant stores). I ordered from them last year based on the reviews here and was not disappointed. I intend to order from them as long as I need plants for my landscape.

Ordered from thier 75% off clearance on bulbs this year. A little disappointed in that they were out of the oriental lilies I had ordered, but the tulip bulbs were huge and quite the bargain...the daffodil bulbs were a mix of 100, nothing too impressive for size, but still a good bargain...Will order from again.

I ordered from Bluestone this spring and everything grew fine except for some mum plants that didn't take off. Their customer service department said they are replacing the mums. I will order from them again next spring.

I ordered from Bluestone during their clearance sale this year. I received big, healthy looking bulbs. I ordered some Muscari, Globemaster Allium, lilies, and many tulips. Everything was labeled and packed very well in brown paper bags. I placed my order Thursday night and received my shipment early Satuday morning via FedEx Home Delivery. Way go go, Bluestone!

Plants are reasonably priced for their size. When you order they send you a coupon book good for all kinds of things. They also replaced four shrubs that did not survive. Good Customer Service and shipping department too. Highly recommended!

I have purchased from Bluestone four or five times and have always been pleased with the size and quality of my purchases. I am not surprised that they get such high ratings. This is clearly one of the three or four mail order houses that know that good price and high quality work for consumers.

I placed a fairly large order, and was pleased with the plants that were sent. They were small, but priced well, the shipping was excellent, and when I ordered plants that were clearly marked backordered plants in the catalog, they listed which plants would be shipped in the spring. I would do business with this company again.

I ordered a small number of plants from Bluestone Perennials based on feedback in Garden Watchdog. The plants appear healthy and were well-packed and a good size for fall planting (although not as big as garden center plants). I think this is a good company to buy plants from if you would like a certain variety or color and do not want to search all over the place. The prices are a little better than Lowe's and Walmart's non-sale prices and you can pick what you want.

I ordered from them the first time this year. Was very pleased with the way the plants were shipped. A couple of weeks after I got my order, I noticed some leaves on my plants turning yellow. I called cust. ser. and told them. They replaced my plants ASAP!!!! I definitely recommend them.

BEST in mail order and can't be beat for service! I have lost none of the dozens of plants I ordered this spring and most have surpassed the larger gallon sizes from a local nusery that I used to supplement the Bluestone plants. I think there must be something to the theory that small plants do better in the longrun due to acclimitization (?).

I, too, went to Bluestone based on the comments here, and I was not disappointed. The plants all arrived in great condition, except for 1 whose stem broke off at the bottom. I told this to Bluestone and added that I would try to plant it to see if it came up, and they said either way, they would credit me. AND, did you know this, folks, that if you return the box and the packing materials to Bluestone (via parcel post), you get a certificate in the mail for FREE SHIPPING on your next order? Great product and environmentally responsible! Can't beat that, and I can't wait to order my spring bulbs from them!

I have to add my two cents for this company. I ordered for the first time this last Spring and everything that I ordered I received in the best condition possible. Bluestone is an exceptional company and I will definately continue to order from them for many years to come. Just wish I had more land to make beds.

Ordered first time from Bluestone this season. Plants arrived in mid-April, all in good condition; their packaging is, as has been stated here, very good. Of 42 plants, all 42 have survived, and most have thrived. A few were marginal, especially after 10+ inches of rain in June here in NJ, but once it stopped, I fed with Miracle-Gro and they took off. Many are many times original size and can be propagated this fall. Whenever I need perennials, I'll order from Bluestone.

Based on the Garden Watchdog rating, I ordered from this company for the first time this year. I was VERY pleased with the plants I received. I did order an azalea which was not potted properly and did not thrive; after about a week or so, I emailed them and explained the circumstances. They were out of the original one I had ordered, but allowed me to pick a replacement from their stock. It arrived promtply!

I most certainly will order from them again!!!

I ordered from BP for the first time this spring. The plants arrived healthy and very well packed. The plants are growing far better than I expected they would in their first year. My cranesbill has bloomed several times, and the miniature bee balm is just about to burst. I will definately order from them again!
