  A note from langbr:
"January 2008:

I am grateful to be gardening on a 2-acre plot in the Midwest. We moved from a 1/4 acre lot in a densely packed subdivision to a smaller subdivision with nothing but 2-acre+ lots.

We installed an inground pool in 2007 and I am focusing my time on filling in the massive amount of open space around the pool. The backyard is fenced for dogs and a small one and so I also have lots of room to add beds in the future outside the fence in the sideyards. The front is perennial-free and only contains the foundation shrubs the original owner had planted (all very nice shrubs....holly, azaleas, spirea, puple-leaf plum, hydrangeas). But more seasonal color is needed. The frontyard and a vegetable garden are my focus for next season (2008).

I collect daylilies, lilies and will begin (again) to collect iris starting this summer. I was able to move a number of my daylilies from my previous home, but my iris and lilies I didn't wish to disturb.

I am enjoy starting new plants from seed overwinter in my growing area set up in my basement. I am trying winter sowing this winter for the first time. There's so much reward in seeing a plant bloom or bear fruit that you started from seed.

I've thoroughly enjoyed my time on DG since June 2003 and love to host coop's for the benefit of our subscribers. If you're reading this and not a subscriber I strongly encourage you to do so and become a more involved member of our community on the web."
