Posted on June 25, 2010, updated March 14, 2011 Posted on June 22, 2010, updated June 25, 2010 this growing season i decided to order from garden valley ranch, i placed my orders last september. i think the customer service was GREAT! These seem to be very nice people, however, the plants i received were not the best quality, I have never had so many roses die from one order! I lost an ebb tide, honey dijon, belinda's dream, rock & roll, angel face, i lost half of my order! I have ordered from many other garden nurseries and although you may get some lost and i except that ,but half of the order, it was a great waste of my money. I have 2 other plants that are just hanging on by a thread, ( purple iceburg and a black baccarra), i did contact the company when i received the roses to let them know that they didnt look healthy, the company did let me know if they died to inform them, (i didnt ask for replacements at that time because they were not dead yet, i had 98 roses at the time and i wanted to work with them to see if they would survive,(i donot like to have the growers replace roses if they are not dead). Now it is to late to contact the growers, they have a 4/6week warranty on the roses, my roses died some 2/3 weeks after the warranty, so i didnt bother the company for that reason. Bottom line these were not the healthiest of roses to began with, at this point iam done with ordering from other gardens, i will just stick with the 2 i have been using for the last 3years.

On June 25th, 2010, monniemon changed the rating from negative to positive and added the following: I got an email from the owner of Garden Valley ranch, and iam VERY PLEASED at the way this nursery has handled my problem with my order. They were very caring and made me feel as though my satisfaction was important to them. I had made the mistake of thinking i couldnt get replacement/refund for the roses becauses it is was past 6weeks, this company doesnot have a 6week warranty on their roses,i could have contacted them for a replacement/refund at any time (my era). Because of the company's willingness to please their customers, the prompt attention they gave me and the option of replacement/refund, for these reasons i have changed my rating to positive. Iam willing to try it again and will be ordering from this company in the future. I have learned that a company is only as good as its customer service, and this one gets four stars from me!!!!

Ordered a Green Romantica rose from GVR. I have NEVER seen such a beautiful bareroot plant. It came in a huge tall box, with very, very large canes, and an extensive root system. Since my rose bed wasn't ready yet, I potted this rose, after soaking, and within 4 days it was sending out new growth. From now on this is my only source for bareroot roses. Can't say thank you enough to Ron. Will be placing my bareroot order for 2011 in the fall, and am just thrilled to find this new source!!

Positive is the highest praise I can give this company, so that's what they'll have to get from me. Talk about EXTREME roses! I've been burnt quite a few times (well, like 5) with getting these teensy bitsy puny little snippets of roses and figured, well, might as well try it based on recommendations from others. And boy am I EVER glad that I did! The order was handled quickly, the shipment was sent out precisely when I requested, the box was more than enough for the size of the plants, and, lord oh mighty, the plants! Two roses barely fit in the 2' long box! MASSIVE root system, VERY well branched, THICK canes, WONDERFUL. Why on earth would I want to buy little roses locally when I can get these massive monsters for about the same price, including the shipping! A+ in my book. I really can't figure out anything higher than that.

Another year, another perfect rose order from GVR. I've been buying roses from GVR for years now, and they have never disappointed me. I pick up my orders at the nursery and I always buy many more while I'm there. The sight of all those perfect plants with such an abundance of thick canes is impossible to resist. It's the very best source for bare-root roses on the Internet.

I placed an order on Sunday the 31st. When I placed my order, I chose for it to be shipped using UPS. On Thursday the 4th, I called to see if I could cancel the order. At first, Ron could not find my order. He eventually found my order and said cancelling was not a problem because the order had never gone through. Less than half an hour later, he called me and said it was too late to cancel the order because it had already shipped the previous Monday. Shipping from Garden Valley Ranch to Vegas should only take two days. On Monday, one week after the order supposedly shipped, I still had not received the order. I called Garden Valley, but their voice mail said they were closed on Mondays and Tuesdays (which makes me wonder how my package shipped on a Monday). On Tuesday, FedEx tried to deliver my package. Using the tracking info FedEx left me, I found the order did not leave Garden Valley Ranch until Friday, the day after I tried to cancel. Because I work 8-5 Monday through Friday, I will not be able to get my order from FedEx until Saturday. I have no idea what condition my roses will be in after spending over a week in a box. Part of this whole disaster could have been avoided had Garden Valley sent the roses via UPS as I had ordered and paid for. I could have picked up the roses at a nearby UPS after work and the roses would not have spent over a week in a dark box. FedEx does not offer this service. I do not know if Ron flat out lied to me or is just unorganized. I do not recommend this business to anyone. I have shopped online weekly for several years, and Garden Valley is the only business I regret ordering from. I will never deal with them again.

Company representative comment on February 18, 2010:
The reason I had trouble finding her order was that the name she gave me did not match what was in our system. I'm not sure why there was a difference, we had several people with her last name, but not her first name. After hanging up the phone with her, I found where her order had actually already been processed and shipped. As we had a tracking number and Fedex had already picked up the boxes for the day, I had to guess which day that week it had actually been shipped (we group orders together to ship and schedule pickups from Fedex). So, I could have been wrong on which day it was sent, but was not wrong on the fact that it was shipped already. I had forgotten that we still had UPS as a shipping option on our web pages (I fixed that), but we quit using them as their pricing never matched what showed up, and we ended up losing money with them, plus their service was higher and slower than Fedex. This has been the only complaint about that I've ever received.

I called her immediately after finding out what happened, but only got her answering machine. I left a message explaining what happened, but she never called us back. We probably could have worked out something if those two roses were causing a big problem, but we can't give a total refund when we've already paid for shipping. I also e-mailed her right after leaving a voice message, and she did not respond to that either, but chose to come here and make her one and only comment ever to slam our business. We are not some huge corporation, and while I did all I could, the truth is, her order HAD shipped already when she called, so no matter what, it was too late to cancel her order. It would have been courteous, to say the least, to at least have responded to either one of our messages before putting a nasty comment up here that will be here forever, to damage our reputation and purposely try to damage our business. We did not act in bad faith in fulfilling her order. It is not our fault that she changed her mind later. Thankfully, most people do actually want what they've ordered, or this business would be even more difficult to sustain.

Our nursery is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and our voice message says that. However, we work on those days, just are not open to the public.

We ship hundreds of orders every year, to lots of happy customers, so I hope anyone reading her comment will consider that.

I HIGHLY recommend Garden Valley Ranch. Ron Robertson is a rockstar! RON FOR PRESIDENT! This was my first rose order from Garden and they are excellent in every way a vendor should be: superb communication and customer service---prompt, reliable, courteous and knowledgeable replies, beautifully packed items, top-quality plants---hearty, healthy, robust (new growth was already emerging right out of the box), an immense variety and selection..I could go on and on. This vendor cares about its customers and I would definitely encourage other gardeners to check them out first, especially when considering quality grafted roses. It should be noted they sell some own-root varieties as well. An easy 11 out of 10. Thanks, GVR!

I ordered three roses and they are the best looking bare root roses I have ever seen. They have very well developed root systems, and at least 4 large canes each. They came rapidly, well packed, and with good suggestions for planting. I am very impressed!

I ordered Austrian Copper from this company, and received a good, healthy plant in good time. Seems the origin of this plant was Weeks Roses. I would definitely recommend Garden Valley Ranch and do business with them again if I am looking for hard-to-find roses.

An excellent source for some hard-to-find roses since many of their unusual varieties not even shown on the website come from Vintage Gardens. I have shopped several times in person during special sales and the staff has been courteous and helpful.

I ordered 10 rosebushes from this company. Although I had a few anxious moments because I live in New England and was worried about storing them until it was time to plant, Mr Robertson was able to offer me some guidance. He was friendly and professional. I followed his directions and all are now thriving in the temporary planters I put them in. A few were slow to leaf out and I was a bit concerned but eventually they all leafed out and look great-very healthy! I just hope the transplant process doesn't harm them, but I feel positive about that based on how good his other advice was and how healthy they appear now. I can barely wait to enjoy the blooms!

I purchased several roses from this nursery this year. All of them are extremely robust and healthy. A great experience for excellent quality roses!
