'Lord Lieutenant' variety. Realizing that computer monitor settings will determine the nuance of color seen by the viewer, I'm changing my statement from "This is actual color" to "The color shown in the photo has not been altered in any way". When viewed in bright sunshine (as in the photo), the main color of the flower is "indigo bunting" with overtones of purple/black on some outer petals. On an overcast day more of the purple notes dominate. I hope this helps.

with the clematis as contrast, you can really see how dark the blue can get

this one hasn't quite opened but u can see it's so bright outside, that even the leaves look chartruse
