Wow! You all are really having an iris bloom! Mine is pretty good too -- better than last year -- even with the gophers eating the bloom stalks! Will post more later.

i wasn't able to post for a couple weeks due to computer problems, so am just getting caught up on photos. Here's one I thought was lost to Iris borers a few years back, but a tiny piece must have survived and grown large enough to bloom. Xanthippe's Halo

My unusual bloom on Hazel's Pink Dwarf -

Mattsmom that is really ODD. I have to say I like it though. I would put something like that in my beds. I wonder if it was the weather or what?

Tomah, WI

I didn't know an iris could poly. Or, could this be some type of fused bloom?

Cut Bank, MT(Zone 3a)

I am no expert on that but I wonder if you can see at the base of the bloom what it looks like. Meanwhile i WOULD CERTAINLY TRY TO GET THE POLLEN AND CROSS IT WITH SOMETHING.

Tomah, WI

I'm afraid I am too new at iris to know how to pollinate them. I can't believe I walked by this bloom several times before I noticed that it was different. Guess I need new glasses.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

mattsmom, if the stem right below the bloom looks rather flat and/or has a seam down the middle, it could be fasciated. Happens with a lot of flowers and gives you some odd looking blooms. Sometimes just the flower will poly, meaning it has more petals than normal. Can be caused by lots of things, but most likely all the other blooms will be normal and it would not be passed on to offspring unless all the blooms on the plant or that way., or at least that is my understanding. Some daylilies will poly 50% or more of the time and then those are good ones to cross and hope that trait is passed on the the offspring.

Here is Finishing School. First time it has bloomed for me. First saw it at the Oklahoma Convention in 2007 and fell in love with it at that time.
