Please help!!

I have received a lot of conflicting information regarding Panicum violaceum. First off, is it an annual or perennial? If it's perennial, will it survive in zone 5?

I'm also wondering whether or not this is a sturdy grass that will hold up to some wind and rain, or should I just plant ti in a place where it can just be wild and do its own thing? Any other thought's about the plant would be welcomed.
