Almost everyone has them some are nice enough to keep, show what you grow. My first Noid 1 may be "Dusky Challenger" it averages a 6"x6" bloom with some measuring up to 8"x 8".
Show us the No-ids you grow
Your #4 sort of reminds me of Dauntless (1929).
Close but I don't believe it is though. I've sent one rz of each noids 4 and 5 to a person on the west coast that has "Evolution" and grows lots and lots of Historics so maybe in the spring or the following spring I may have ID's for them, maybe.
I'm not really asking for ID's although that would be great even just a idea like you did would be cool, really just wanted to see others noids.
Your 27 looks a lot like some of the old germanicas I am trying to collect.
Seriously, would you enjoy all these really nice irises more if you knew
their name?
It seems to make a big difference in trading so I've cut back on getting them unless it "trips my trigger" I just don't have the room. When I divide 27 and any other of the older ones many that I don't have photo's of as yet I'll be sure to give you a shout, probably next year. I'll D-mail ya a list with photo's.
I have some favorite no-ids that came with my house. I really like them, but the owners had already moved away when we bought it. I don't do all that much trading so I don't mine the No-id status, but I still prefer those with IDs. Here is one of my favorites. Many have guessed at what it might be. Still don't know. Let's call it #1:
They are all beautiful, Id's or not!!
I am considering giving all my TB's away that are modern cultivars. I want to
concentrate on the oldies like the fragrant diploids and others like the species
germanicas that one of the forum members was kind enough to send to me
this summer's trading cycle. I just signed up for a 3 year subscription to HIPS
and awaiting authenication so I can get into their database of oldies. Thanks
for the offer of a possible trade or gift of some of the oldies.
I am limited for space for new beds. I would turn the entire front yard into
an iris bed but I cannot afford the divorce and alimony. I am retired and my
wife is not an iris lover.
Oldgardenrose, I'm with you. As I get more into irises I find that I'm a lot more attracted to the historics. Each one is a treasure. Ironic that our moderns will one day become historics!
This is my noid...I got them from a woman after knocking on her door and complimenting her on them, and hoping to find out what their name was...she didn't know, but was willing to trade some to me for some red spider lilies. I usually try to only have named stuff, but made an exception for these.
They are extremely fragrant, and I think such a lovely color...

The photos on this thread and another currently running are almost breathtaking
but there are so many that a small gardener could not possibly have them all.
I prefer to let the people with access to large gardens display their work for all
of us to enjoy. There is something satisfying in knowing I or anyone else who
enjoys the old fragrant irises could be preserving something for the future.
Personally I think it is nice to know the name of the flower but really what I am seaking isn't the name of the flower. It's the flower that is going to take my breath away, make me want to sit there and stare at it, and enjoy it for it's beauty. The nice thing about id'ing them is people are more willing to trade those which are named.
Very pretty. They look spectacular together
Thanks Dpoitras. I hope to be able to identify these one day. I can't ask my neighbor since she got them from a friend of hers and has since moved away!
I wonder if the pink one isn't Chinese Treasure. I will attach a picture of my Chinese Treasure, which I adore and see what you think. I will send two. The first is a less good picture but it reveals the haft marks which your picture reveals. Then I will post one of my prettier pictures of Chinese Treasure. Okay, the less good picture.
