The Chicago Botanic Garden is absolutely wonderful, and was a great place to hold a Lily Show!
We arrived around 8:45am and were greeted, Wanda got busy staging her stems for showing and I was put to work helping a first time shower groom her lilies for the show tables. Interesting!
Here we are with the Head Judge, Woody Imberman.
Wandasflowers & llilyfan go to Chicago!
One last picture before I head to work. Simply beautiful.
This is the 'Island of the Gods' supposedly you can not enter this garden of no paths until you have passed from this life. A strong wind will blow you away if you try or the turtle on who's back the garden grows will swim away from you. Wonder how they keep it mowed.......................
If I'd known about this show, I would have ditched my family for a couple hours and come to sneak a peek. Sorry to have missed it. Did you check out the bulb garden there? It's one of my favorite spots.
Why do I want to read the header of this as "Wanda and Sue's Excellent Adventure!"
I bet you guys had a riot!! :) Please post more pictures later!
Looks like you had lots of eye candy. Imagine you enjoyed your selves tremendously.
Maxine
No doubt they did. :) Tell us more!
LOL That's a mad birdie!
looked like it was a nice start for some 'smart new judges"
Wonder where they got all those wine bottles . . .
We don't have wine bottles. Ours are akevitt bottles. Never touch the stuff myself. No, mine would be šlivovic.
(Kidding, all of it.)
Awww.... I want the merbaby!
Hail the Judges!
Nice tour, thanks.
Sue, you have good taste as I like the mermaid too.
Maxine
Lefty, that's funny! The wine bottles were the first thing I noticed, my second thought was...well they won't leak like our stem holders do!
Maxine, I really made a fool of myself photographing the merbaby! I was sprawled out on the ledge of the reflecting pool trying to get the right angle.
We did go and visit Mr. Imberman's garden, it was quite .....ummmm....... interesting, yes interesting. Is it possible to have a very young garden in a very old garden? Anyway here is a picture of one small area of his garden.
Good taste indeed; I like the merchild also.
it was quite ...ummmm... interesting, yes interesting.
I think that's what most would say about my place. LOL. But I am proud of it!
Sue, what a nice picture. You captured every thing so perfect.
Lilies are spectacular as usual in a show.
Maxine
Maxine, thank you.
It was a great time and I learned alot. I'm thinking about heading that direction again next year. This society is in dire need of judges as two of the three have now retired because of age.
This is one of the few full sun areas I could find in the bulb garden, they have lilies tucked in everywhere.....
beautiful ,
love that red foliage plant , wonder what it is ?
Goodness, always late to the party these days. Sue has an incredible eye for the lilies. I'm working on mine...
My pics are at home--I'll try to get a few posted tonight. A little crazy here as I prepare for an "Open Lily & Daylily Garden" on Sunday. Why did I tell all those May Iris visitors that I would call them about this July Open Garden????
LOL.
you will enjoy it after its over
Well, I enjoyed the trip, but my head is still buzzing. I need to boil it all down & get my article written for our IRLS (Iowa Regional Lily Society )newsletter. Sue is the hard-working editor.
Soo...after agonizing over classifications, lily forms, & blooms for over 2 hours, Sue & I helped choose these winners for the head table. As student judges, that was not one of our duties, but almost all the entries belonged to the head judge & he couldn't comment on his own stems! I brought 4 stems with me that earned 3 blue ribbons, but no "Best of Class" awards.
