July Blooms, Part 3

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

I agree with Brenda..much stronger babies..when I used to do the horizontal wedges I had a ton of tiny babies and they were so hard to separate and were not near as sturdy of plants..
Here are some leaves from Brenda,Susan or Jannich..lol..they are marked but I can't remember without looking right now... I put these down on 5/27 this 1st pic they were all started in straight vermiculite...I see babies..so excited : )

I will change they way I do my cutting then.

Thank you.:o)

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

2nd pic..these were started 5/27 also only I used Volkmanns mix with just a tad of extra perlite...babies here too..so I am not sure if one way is better than the other..both ways look about the same?

Oooh, Great Job Nancy! Just look at all those little "ears" poking up! Looks like you are gonna have a house full of Streps in a short while too!

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Nancy,
How about I send all my cuttings to you and let you grow mine... Yours look great.. I love seeing the babies come up but get so stress putting them down and then worry like a mother hen over them...LOL
Hugs,
Susan

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Thanks Lin..the more babies I get the more I will have to share..see there is a method to our madness..lol...
Susan..patience my friend..just cover them up and ignore them for a month or so...lol..easier said than done I know..you will see babies soon I am sure of it!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Nancy, you are good at this growing leaves of streps. I am sooooooo impressed. That is only about 6 weeks ago............bummer I can't do that and you told me you couldn't grow strep leaves when I tried to send you some! Of course that was about 3 months ago and maybe you thought you couldn't.....but those look fantastic or better than fantastic.

Your leaves look so good after such a period of time. My leaves don't look that good but they will have babies. They just don't have that vibrant look that yours have.

I am speechless that you have babies in that vermiculite..........now I don't know which way to try next...........straight perlite, perlite and vermiculite.............or the same ole way.

Can you tell me how long you dome yours?

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Mine I just put down still don't look as good as yours do Nancy and I am so afraid of killing them... Yes how long do you dome yours? I have some that don't have domes and they are living and pretty good but still no babies... They were from a much earlier planting... I still say I have a hard time rooting as it seems everytime is diffrent...
Hugs,
Sue

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Gosh Gail you really made my night..I know what a great grower you are so that is a real compliment and confidence booster for me ; )
I put the leaves down and don't take the domes off ever actually..lol..when I get babies I wait til they are large enough to pot up in their own pots and then dome them for about a week or two..then I gradually start removing their covers more and more..longer and longer each day until they look really good then I uncover them totally and put them on the shelves...Don't give up Susan..you will see babies soon!!

(Zone 1)

Y'all are doing great with the propagating! I don't have a lot of patience to do more than maybe one tray of leaves or seeds at a time. Things die on me sometimes too but I don't get stressed about it. I learned a long time ago that it doesn't accomplish anything LOL. I will plant something and if it lives, it lives ... if not, oh well, I can always try again some time!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

All right, smarty pants, Nancy! I am going to dome mine and ignore them until they have babies. I only leave the dome on a couple of weeks ........only until the leaf has a few roots...........will start doming them the whole time from now on. I don't think it would do any good to start doming them now when it has been weeks since the domes were on??????????????
OR.......would it help if I put the domes back on?

Never give up Susan.........you should have heard Nancy belly aching over strep leave less than a year ago..........

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Oh I am not given up just get frustrated when I have to root... Ok I am going to bed now and will talk with you all later tomorrow night as we are going to Richmond to see Mike's new apartment... So will be back later in the night...
Hugs to All,
Susan

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

LOL..Now Gail you be nice to me..LOL..I know..I know..always wanted baby plants so i didn't have the headache of starting leaves anymore..glad now I decided to give leaves another try...so far anyway..LOL..
leaving the domes on like I do was just dumb luck on my part..I always did it that way..next batch of leaves I will probably all kill that way tho..lol...so many different ways..each always has a way that works better for them..thats the cool thing about it...always learning...

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Nancy,
Do you have your cuttings on heat mat or not? Ok this time I am really off to bed...
Hugs,
Susan

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Boy Susan you were up later than me...no heat mat this time of year for mine....I think alot of people do tho?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Sometimes I use bottom heat on the kitchen shelves and sometimes I don't. The lights in the kitchen are attached under each shelf causing the shelves to be warm.

Nancy, I am just jealous that you are doing better than I can do! (LOL)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)
