Last year, I lost two grape ivies (C. rhombifolia and Ellen Danica) to weevils. Or at least I think so.
So for the past several months, I have been looking for grape ivies at the nurseries, grocery stores, and home improvement centers. No luck.
Did a Cissus-specific disease sweep through the states (or the Western time zone) or is my timing just bad?
Also, can you propagate them from stem cuttings? We have a healthy specimen at work, in case I can't find one at the store. Will they root out in a glass of water?
Thanks!

Dearth of Grape Ivy?
Sorry no one answered yet - I have no idea but it got me looking and could not find it at my haunts in the area... have not seen it in a long time one of those fads no doubt - it is just not "in" right now.
I've had good luck rooting in a glass of water, not as easy as other Ivies, but good enough. If work would allow it I've had good luck air-layering as well.
I have one hanging basket that I've had for about 4 years ... it was just barely surviving and I started feeding it with VF-11 plant food and it began to grow and is looking pretty good. I was in Wal-Mart last week and they had some little 3" pots so I picked up a couple. I haven't rooted cuttings of it in a long time and really should - I have a lot of other plants rooting in water, might as well add some grape ivy!
You really should take some cuttings from your office plant ... next year you could have a nice specimen of your own!
Thanks, all.
BTW, Grape Ivy is actually a grape rather than an ivy. The name is confusing. Grapes have twining stems; ivies stick root-like structures into bricks.
I think I'll take cuttings and root them out. No one should be without their grape ivies. (My mom's specimen, one county south, is also suffering horribly.)
These are really pretty plants. Both are in the same family of Vitaceae.
Grape Ivy (Genus Cissus): http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/54583/
Ornamental grape (Genus Vitis): http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/56524/
I have the Grape Ivy Cissus rhombifolia in a hanging basket. I also have the Parthenocissus (Virginia Creeper): http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1695/ growing in my yard ... it is really beautiful, especially in fall when the foliage turns gold and red ... but it takes over everything. The Virginia Creeper is also in the family Vitaceae.
