Blue Oat Grass??

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Today, I saw a 'northern oat grass' in a local nursery. I have seen pics of a blue oat grass, and this doesn't loo like the photos I remember. Any comments? If you are familiar with blue oat grass, do you know if it will grow in zone 6b??

Thanks bunches, darius

Darius,

The info below is from Michigan State Univ:

"Helictotrichon sempervirens--Blue Oat Grass

Hardiness Zone: 5 to 8
Height: 36 in Spacing: 15 in
Type: herbaceous perennial
Flower: Beige

Comments: The primary ornamental trait of this grass is
its blue foliage (Vis. 2). Best growth occurs in full sun
but a wide variety of neutral to alkaline soils are
suitable. The panicles (Vis. 1) are white to beige and are
borne on tall stems. Plants growing in excessive shade make
weak growth and have an open habit.

Propagation: Propagate by division or seed.

Cultivars:
'Saphirsprudel' ('Saphire Fountain') - Bluish foliage,
wind resistant.
'Sapphire' - Bluish foliage.

References for Cultivars: Walters Gardens 1999, Weston
Nurseries 1999, White Flower Farm 1999, Gee Farms 1999,
Midwest Groundcovers 1999."

The latin name for Northern Sea Oats is Chasmanthium latifolium.

Thanks, Chuck!
