show your best blooming iris this season

Marshall, TX

That should have been "love the size and FORM" of these on the Abbey Road post. One of these days I may actually learn to type.

Anyway, here's Figurehead.

Betty, I DO hybridize a bit--just learned last year thanks to zacattack's wonderful website on hybridizing iris. Anyway, I have a few seedlings with it as a parent as it does do well here. Maybe with luck we can find out what it really is. I'd certainly like to know now.

Beaver Falls, PA(Zone 6a)

pajaritomt, I too am becoming a fan of IB's. Prior to this year, I had only grown Low Ho Silver. Enjoyed it's compact size, blooming power, and reliable rebloom. And it's fragrant too! Pristine silver white color didn't hurt either. But after seeing Fast Forward bloom in my landscaping, I think I need more of this size of iris. Any other IB's that I should be looking for?

IBs, Bottledsunshine--Nichols. Delirium--M. Smith. Ming--M.Smith Maui Moonlight--aitken.

Los Alamos, NM(Zone 5a)

I have seen a bunch of wonderful IB's. One I like is Midsummer Night's Dream. I have Baby Blue Marine which is old but wonderful. Another is http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/32740/

I wouldn't waste a minute of concern on many of the others. Do feel free to send me an email if you still are interested in others I like.

Igrowinpa... The IB's are great, and can be planted in front of the tall beardeds or among rocks and small garden sculpture for a really nice look. Here's a few others to consider. Here's a look at Dude.

HeeHee - you are asking me an iris question about what I have ? lol. If an IB is an intermediate, no, these are TB's. I hope I am not showing my ignorance too bad here. Feel free to help me out if I am way off base.

Texas/Okla central b, United States(Zone 7b)

not ignorant..just yet not educated on the iris...that comes with the love of them.......the more you have the more you want to know....if I were not uneducated I would not have had to ask. hang in there.. we all learn from each other......None knows all

You sure do have some beauties. That Heavenly Body, really IS

Play With Fire blooming today

We grow daffs on the roadside up against the wall. I have often thought about planting Delirium there also & listen to tires screech as people brake, however too much road salt in the winter. 'Midsummer Night's Dream' has an elegant flower. It has a blue sibling 'Barrel House Blues' which is a bit biger, but also a great plant.

And "Figurehead" and "Arizona Sandstone"........welllllll as my husband says when he watches the Miss America pagent......."just give me the ugliest one!!!!!" My blooms are about over here, it's almost hot summer..... .ya"ll keep posting so I can live vicariously

ohhhhhh...French Horn!!!! What a beauty!!!

Lakeland / Memphis, TN(Zone 7a)

That's the problem with these threads - all I do is add more to my "want" list. I keep hoping I will see blooms of mine that haven't bloomed yet, but man, there are so many beauties out there ! Hook is very pretty, but so is that French Horn !

Roswell, NM(Zone 6a)

Here is some more I think they are suppose to be bog iris but I planted them here about 5 years ago before I knew they needed a lot of water, as you can see they must like it, but they bloomed dark purple last year, still waiting to see if they are still there. Didn't know what color they were when I put them in, found them in the throw away basket at Walmart. LOL Susan

Oh how pretty, I'll dig some of the ones I have by the house and move them to the bog area I'm getting fixed up, if the wind will ever let up where I can get my tractor up to my bath tub I'm using so I can get the dirt/goat manure into it with out getting it all over myself. I'm really excited I'm going to get some of the plants that the tops look like helicopter blades to go in with the iris and some horse's tail too. This is going in by my fish tank, cant call it a pond since its an old horse tank with the bottom out over a hole with tarp down inside of it to help hold water.

Durham, ME(Zone 3a)

What lovely blooms and how different Zing Me, Hooked, Heavenly Body are. Like those that are different. The others are beautiful too and I wish Louisianas survived in my area but it is too cold for them here.

South Hamilton, MA

Mainer--ask at the show if anyone grows LA 'Black gamecock' it just might be hardy enough.

Los Alamos, NM(Zone 5a)

Jackie, one of the Black Gamecocks you gave me is growing next to my back door. It looks quite healthy even after a winter outdoors. I don't know if it will bloom this year, but I will give it some fertilizer to help it grow. I learned at the convention that Louisianas heavy feeders and like Miracid or Miracle Gro every two weeks! And this was from Hooker Nichols who breeds them.

Roswell, NM(Zone 6a)

Thanks for the info, I'll get mine fed, when the rain stops, yea doing the happy rain dance, its been raining/drizzling all day, its so nice not much wind, but now better get off the thunder is getting close. Susan

Texas/Okla central b, United States(Zone 7b)

I am glad that yours are doing well, hopefully they will multiply into larger clumps for next year.
I don't do a thing to mine at my front entrance, seen here growing with my regular TBs......dry as a bone and in a semi-shaded bed.....I have dumped some alfalfa tea on that bed this spring and that's all. I do intend to move them to a wetter location. I have others down at the pond edge but really they don't look any different than these. Must be really tuff stuff.....

Wow I excited if Black Gamecock is hardy enough in a sheltered spot I will want to try some. Will as at the Maine Iris Society Show.

Now Jackieshar you noid looks similar to my Amethyst FlameTB that bloomed last year. Does it have purple based fans or pbf? If not it might be Amethyst Flame.

Amethyst Flame is by Robert Schriener Reg 1957 Intro 1958 DM winner I believe. Here is a photo of mine from HIPS sale 2005.
