Lets honour all our other spring treasures...Part II

The violas are fading fast as the weather gets warm. I have a few that are hanging on....

They are all such great pictures...Jmorth..I am so jealous. I have a foxtail lily I have been trying to grow. It keeps playing hide and seek. Now you see it now you don't...But no blooms. This spring it made an appearance for about 1 week and disappeared again. It said no thanks to the cold weather. Just when I think it must be dead and gone it comes up in the spring again.

That is an awesome begonia!

Gent, Belgium(Zone 8a)

that's aerly, aggie for a Crocsmia to bloom! It's a pretty deep colour!

Tabebuia umblatum makes bold statement Dale!
I love the jacarnda tree!

I see that your A. nectaroscordums also reache for heaven jmorh!
I really love your Deirdre tulips, they are so well set off in the dreamy background!
Your Camassia has a lovely deep color I like.
Never saw a Ixiolirion pallasii before. I like it!

That's a lovely delicate Crinum tazzy!

One of my 4 types of Iris sibirica started to bloom.

Iris foetidissima, a native wild one has opened its first flower. The colour is subtle but I like it. It make beautiful red berries that stay nice al through the winter..

Dale - I don't know either but it is a beauty for sure!

I love iris. I didn't get pic's of my siberian Iris but I did of
this bearded iris. I love the yellow edging. A colleague from
work brought in a huge box full of iris last year. Her father
had dug them all out. I planted a bunch and gave away as
many as I could find homes for... and they are simply beautiful.
All of them.

I like Iris too but due to their transitory blooming period have never concentrated on them. Those I have, kind of like Tammy, I took only because they were about to be discarded.

Back in the day when I lived in a climate where you could grow bearded iris I used to just jam other plants around them>

Here's a rocky hillside that was just weeds & rocks a few years ago.
I'm slowly filling it with bloom & folliage. The iris are working well here.
(Sorry about the blurry spot - I had a smudge on my lens).

Tammy you should be so proud, that is really lovely.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

nice hillside Tammy--and excellent use for land that others wouldn't attempt to use, also great view.

I always wake up too late to get the really good pictures..but here's some Gladiolus nanus 'Elvira' from today--we finally had a decent rainfall late yesterday afternoon and these are beat down and too sunny of an exposure, but blooming today. I have several lilies that should open soon, can't wait to see those.

I like your NOID too Dale!

Your irises are lovely Tammy and you have so many!
They really do look happy there on that rocky hillside!

I love that colour combination of the salmon with pink in your Gladiolus nanus Deb! Very pretty!

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm thinking these Lilium leichtlinii may be getting close to blooming--since these are new to me this year, anyone care to venture a guess as to how much longer? The suspense is killing me here.....

I have lots of really nice perennials blooming right now but these seem to have captured my attention for the last week....

ok I will bite...I say three days lol.

What's the prize for the person who guesses closest to the actual date?
I'm guessing longer - maybe 7-10days from that picture date.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

=)
that sounds good lavender!

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

well Tammy, what would you like the prize to be?
=)

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I am taking in consideration heat opens the buds faster.

Gent, Belgium(Zone 8a)

Lavender has a good point there!

Well, I'm gonna stick w/my guess. Lets see... what do I want as a prize?
hmmmmmm.... a baby lily? :-)

No one else gonna play?

Tampa, FL(Zone 10a)

I will guess June 8th and if I win I will send you a lily.

Thumbnail by DaleTheGardener

Oh Dale... we both guessed the same date. (and no - picking a range
wasn't cheating. It just was a smart way to increase my odds of winning. )
Does that mean you send me a lily too if you're right? I'll get two that way -
one from you and one Deb.

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

June 4th,
hot this week maybe put them into overdrive

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I didn't know this would be such fun--I'll take pics of the other two species that aren't as close to blooming as that one is and take wagers on those bloom dates too--lol

I just hope the will bloom soon and then go dormant by mid-August so hopefully they sleep through the roughest part of our summer and return again next year. This is an experiment with these 3 species. But so far I'm so pleased with them that I've ordered 2 more species lilies for fall delivery.

Since I'm not sure if any of these are going to make it past this summer--I reserve the right to substitute some other type of bulb as a prize =)

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

I guess I guessed twice!!

Dale, love that border from your temperate climate days! Just lovely! And love those Trimphator(?)lilies with the begonia too.

Tammy, OMG! Your hillside has come along smashingly! You've made amazing progress with it in the last year, its gorgeous! And that yellow/white bicolor iris is so pretty. Keep me in mind if/when dividing day comes for that baby, LOL.

DMJ, try this site http://www.bulb.com/ Then click on 'professional', then click on 'variety pictures', then on 'lily', then on L/A & L/O for lilies that will grow wildly even in my zone. I know it is a long 'route', but, the site does not allow shortcuts, I have tried to shorten the path with no luck.

To place an order with these folks, they are Dutch, you need a broker here in the USA. Doesn't hurt to look tho.

This is the only Oxalis I have found that performs perfectly here in Tampa, O. brasiliensis

ok I said three days so june 1st first bud open!

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Dale I'm a grower not a broker--there is a big difference; there's not many bulb sites I'm not familiar with (that one included) but thanks for the info.

OK folks, I'm jotting those dates down and trying to think of a good prize for ya'll. =)
