Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Good for you!

We didn't get mail either, but our road was plowed. I never thought about the mail truck not getting to the PO.

I read last night in the paper that normally we should get 13" more snow this year. If we get that amount we will be in the top 3 snowiest years in the last 100 years for this area. I can't remember exactly (paper is downstairs) but it was something like 60" this year so far. (of course it settles alot, and melted this year, thank goodness) Still can get through the woods with the big quad, although I dragged bottom pretty good. Breaks a nice trail for walking though.

Looks like the deer were all over the woods looking for food. The coyottes were out too. I think it must be mating season as they have been pretty vocal lately. Errie sound for sure.

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

sounds great... its really nice when the roads are passable isnt it? im going out to lunch today... i need to get out of the house with a couple friends.... i have the day off and am going out for a while... cabin fever dont you know? but other than that not to much going on around here... its going to be very cold around here this sunday highs of only around 10 degrees. yuck... we need at least high 60's. thats a great temp. have a wonderful friday all.... Ronna

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

i know i can not believe it 60 inches i dont know how many inches weve had that would be something to look up huh? well maybe i dont want to know... but i sure know the kalamazoo river is sure high right now. and its moving very fast. kinda nice to see it that way. long as its not in anyones basement.. that would be very bad. anyone ever been in a flood. i never have feel sorry for those in them though... Ronna

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Our river is high too. Hopefully the next melt will be slow.
My African Daisies are starting to come up already. I am excited.

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

its kinda early isnt it??? i mean for daisies??? does that mean spring is right around the corner??? hopefully so...

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Yeah, I am pushing it. Of course the seeds were planted inside for my enjoyment. But germinated much quicker than the label said.
Never saw these before, and thought it would be fun thing to grow. We are pretty late here to see any flowers outside. So I have to have them inside.

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

oh arent you sneaky i thought they were outside!!!! i do not "do" seeds so didnt think about them being in side lol but my husband did set up small area in the basement for me and i might try doing it this year... sounds really nice. when is the time of year for that??? probably about 6 weeks before the last FROST huh?

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Yes, I am too early, I do not know what I am doing, but I am having fun. So that is what it is all about. Just wanted to see something grow I guess.
My geraniums are doing great. First time bringing them in. They are by the slider in the basement soaking up the sun when it is out. I was going to cut them back a bit, but they look nice and bushy.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Morning all!!
I luv growing stuff from seeds( i have 5trays of dl's started)here in the house. I have a GH I can moved them out into in late March! So i try to get a good jump on starting stuff early so that its really big when i transplant them to the gardens. This is from 2yrs ago when i added this area-tomatoes and daylily babies. Now the back row is all lilies and daylilies in the front and i need more room . LOL

Not sure what im going to do today-maybe start some mators!! clean house and watch a movie
Did you all see daves is trying to get auctions on this site?-that would be great!

Before the storm they said we had 53in of snow already this yr and normal for this time is 27 and this was all before we got the blizzard. On the way home last night in the middle of our lane was a 4ft drift still on the road, it was from where a car had been stuck and the plow went around it and never got back to it!!! very dangerous i thought!!!

going to go read more threads-will be on most of the day today! :)
stay warm!

hey c-parts all that matters is that you have fun growing it must be fun seeing the flowers coming up.... and martha is having fun with hers also...thats great... im so excited i went and bought a brand new mattress.. waiting for it to be delivered!!!! never had a really nice mattress set... im sure it will be so nice huh? well see you all later have a great afternoon. Ronna

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Watching a movie, sounds like a good idea. Hooked back up to netflix and am going to miss our normal weekend movie due to no mail yesterday. (movie is still sitting in the box)
Out of touch with good movies, so am up for suggestions.
I would like to go crazy growing stuff, but lost too much to the animals, and I like them around (it was their place before we moved here) so I have to watch what I grow.
(please remind me of that statement later in the summer when I have a fit about the deer eating all my lillies for the hundreth time)
Put anything yummy on the deck. We have yet to have deer up there, although neighbors have had deer on their deck.
Enjoy the new mattress, Sometimes it takes a day or two to get used to sleeping on something different.

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

i know but believe me thats just fine... weve need one for so long!!!

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Oh, I am sure you will be sleeping like a baby. You will probably wonder why you didn't get it earlier.
It is fun to get new stuff.

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

yes it is so much fun and exciting. my husband did not know i went to get it. he sleeps during the day... i asked him to go sleep in the other room. he said did you get a new mattress?? he was fine with it... it is so much higher than our other one. wow you feel like your going to fall out of bed. so comfortable. so hows the weather in everyone neck of the woods? our is 37 degrees right now. and dripping everywhere. suppose to get in the single didgets (sp?) by sunday morning...boo. and then warm up slightly but any thing is a warm up after the singles huh? we went to applebees last night for dinner with friends had a nice time... i think i got my first ever bout with indegstion? im not sure but it sure did hurt!!! felt like a balloon was stuck under my ribs.. not to much fun. still kinda hurts today. oh well thats the breaks huh? everyone have a great day i have to work later, Ronna

Excess of 40 mph winds and snow coming here tonight...what fun...Then the sub zero temps. I may need to sell my garden to pay the heating bills!! Bundle up!

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

im just watching the news and here also with the wind... what are you talking about i already have my garden in the paper...lol. i would really miss the flowers in the summer... smiling in the sun.

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

It's a dreary day here today. We got a bit of snow last night. Enough to shovel. It's wet and heavy. I heard that really cold temps are coming in tonight also. I have my icy melt stuff down on the walkway so I don't walk out of the house and fall. Hate ice worse than anything.

This weekend is Perchville in Tawas but we're not going. We're just hanging around the house today.

Hope everyone stays warm.

Sitting here watch and waiting for spring.

Brenda

Fenton, MI(Zone 5b)

Hello ALL,
It sure is dreary but i am determined to bring some sunshine in with my growing room today. i am going down to sterilize and wash stuff!! I am going to organize and get ready to sow!!!
I am also going to continue making my plant labels. I ordered some from EON and Everlast( one was a co-op the other was a private buy) I am GOING to get organized and LABELED this year!!!
I had a master gardener tour here 4 years ago and i had so little labeled I felt HORRIBLE!! The garden clubs keep asking me to participate but i won't until i can label my "Stuff".
No movies for me!! I have work to do!!
Better go now. It is just a nice cold STAY AT HOME week end!!
Hope you all have a nice one too!

Ronna

Fenton, MI(Zone 5b)

Hello all 40 days til spring? is that it?
I went to Yahoo they have a plant buying group there. it has been a real experience. i was just too late for the lily sale ..the prices were great!! They did say will have another lily co-op in the spring.
Well I guess the only reason to like winter is the time to get ready!
When warm weather hits it is over whelming how many things need attention. Decks, grills, yard, seeds, get hoses attached, OHHHHHH my head hurts already!
Sorry about your leak. I know how you feel. I had my house roofed 6 years ago. I did not roof my bay window as I wanted a copper roof. Then the prices shot up and I decided against it. I have asked the roofer to do it for 2 years. i guess it is too small of a job NOW> So I just noticed that water maybe getting in the wall. I have beautiful plaster work as this is an Old Victorian house and well I am a little peeved!
I called the roofer yesterday. No reply...I am waiting.
Dori, you take the best pictures. i will have to get better at it. You too Brenda and lilmac!
I love seeing your pics.
Well all have a good day. Did anybody here get any COW POTS! They are seedling pots made of cow dung. They have a co-op for them. I am getting whole cases one of each size. I will bring them to garden exchanges this year as I hope to go to all of them to meet all of you!!
Julie

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

The sun is streaming in the windows here in AuGres but it is very cold. My outdoor thermometer said it was 7 degrees when I woke up this morning.

Gloria, I am so sorry for the wet mess you're in. Water can do so much damage and often you don't even know there is a problem till it's a huge problem. When we bought this tiny old farmhouse I had a new roof put on and a few new windows and new siding. The roof wasn't leaking yet but I figured we'd better get all fixed while we were still working and had the moneyt o do it. I got 40 year shingles and I figure we'll be dead by the time the roof gives way then it will be somebody else's problem. :) Funny to think of your life in terms of roof replacements. I hope you will be able to fix all the damage and have it not hurt your pocketbook too much. This time of year is a good time to negotiate repairs while so many of the contractors are out of work.

I ordered from the phlox co-op too. I have my check made out and ready to go out. I took it out to the box yesterday but the mail had already run so I brought it back inside. Maybe I'll venture out today and drive it up to the post office.

The wind is really howling outside. I feel sorry for all the critters in the woods trying to find food and stay warm. I haven't seen any birds lately. I thought they would want to eat the crabapples on my tree but they are still there. Guess they have found better things to eat.

I like the countdown to spring. Keep it going. Let's hope we have an early spring this year since we had such a severe winter. I hope all the snow we've had helps the lake levels to come up some. I know it's been a problem.

Stay warm everyone.

Brenda

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

morning everyone-cold cold and colder! Its blowing fiercely again all night the tree limb BANG BANG against the house! Told DH climb up there and cut it off! sure thing in the wind and cold! LOL We didnt get any new snow-just blowing and drifting!

Gloria sorry about your leaky roof-what a headache that must be!! Maybe you can expand the bedroom add a hot tub of sun room or both!!!!!!

My spring is going to begin March 1st Ive made up my mind!!!!!!so i only have 19 days to go ha haaaa Today i may start a flat of Mators.
We moved more of the kids stuff(where did they get so much)yesterday and there is lots to go. We had to shovel the driveway of heavy wet snow before we could even get the truck in the driveway!

well im off to circle the co-ops!!!!!!!

Millington, MI(Zone 5b)

Gloria,

I hope you win big at the casino! I only went to MP once, but I won 1200 bucks. Only the third time in my life I have ever been to one. Haven't gone back-I am just to stingy with my money, lol. Except when it comes to plants, sigh. (I just checked out that Yahoo coo-op too.)

Its starting to get windy...its supposed to be real bad tonight. I still have that tree on the ground from last time, lol. But its oh so bright out! You get used to the dark overcast days, and a day like today is blinding. Just wish it wasn't so cold out. Our German Short hair usually love to be outside, but this morning he ran out, took a power-pee and raced right back in. Thank goodness for Indoor plumbing, I say!

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

here for cabin fever -my daylily babies

Good luck at the casino-get some of that Indian $$$$ LOL

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

Julie,

If you are looking at the "hand" of Michigan, AuGres is near the base of the index finger. We're right at the opening of the Saginaw Bay. Au Gres is halfway between Standish and Tawas. I hope that helps. Come visit!!

Dori, your daylilie babies are very cute!! Have fun sowing tomato seeds. Good thing you have a greenhouse to grow them on in.

Brenda

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Just got back from taking DS home...man are the roads a mess!! They are very rutted and snow filled. In several areas it is near a white out...wonder if schools will be closed tomorrow. They have missed so many days already this year....Plus I heard on the news that there will be another storm rolling in next weekend!! Can you believe it!!!

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLL I got nothing but we had fun dont care if I go again for a long time I'd rather go to flea markets or plant places and its sooo very cold out stay warm ta ta
Gloria

Fenton, MI(Zone 5b)

Oh Brenda I know where you are now!!! Oh it is soo beautiful by lake Huron! Last year i took a nephew of mine to camp just North of Alpena. When I volunteered i had no idea how far it was!! You are in a very accessible area of the state just North of DORI! Glad to get out the map and figure it out. i am trying to put a place with the people here. Well chat at you later. IT SURE IS COLD!!!
Julie

Millington, MI(Zone 5b)

Sorry to hear you didn't hit it big at MP, Gloria.

And I agree-flea market or plant shows beat a casino any day. There is an African violet sale in March I think, in Ann Arbor. I hope to make that one again. but for now, I think I will just stay close to the wood stove. Its - 4 and falling.
