Hi Gang!
I quick stop to say we're off to start expanding the Plantroom!
I made some fasteners out of heavy steel angle iron at work yesterday.
One of our maintainance guys suggested it.
I pulled the metal out of the scrap dumpster.
That will mount the corner post to the concrete pier we poured last weekend.
It will rest on a 1/8" thick piece of Stainless Steel.
It's nice having a machine around that will cut 1" thick metal! lol!
All I need to do is drill a few holes and we're off!
It's a bit colder than I'd like (30) but hey w/ tomorrow's heat (55) comes the rain.
Ric
nothing like FREE, is there, Ric! LOL Good luck with the Plant room today! We're supposed to get up to 65 today and lots of sunshine. Yeah, I know--I'm gloating! LOL
What beautiful skies all around the country these past few days; again, here, too.
Thanks, Sidney for a great starter pic.
17*; mostly cloudy; highs to the teens/20's
sunrise 9:45 set 3:44 loss of 3m40seconds
Dyson~~cute little kittys; wouldn't think the fluffy one would be such a "wildcat"..
Deb~~hope that gauge starts looking better; winter is nearly 1/2 over; maybe April showers are in store.
MySharona~~we're looking forward to the antler pic:))
Ric~look forward, too, to the progress.

Congratulations on the A, Joey!! :-D I love baby giggles... :-) I should find the picture of my little bunny practically eating the ear of my sister-in-law's beagle puppy... (rummaging in the My Pictures file...) This was a few years ago. Every time Snoopy barked Katie would laugh and laugh and laugh... LOL
Weatherwise, it's been a great day. It was sprinkling just a little a bit ago, though, so maybe we're going to get some rain this evening. My dh is at a arcade game convention (video games and pinballs.. http://www.arcadecenter.com/ if you're curious) this weekend, selling some of his huge collection of game manuals. The bunnies and I drove out to see him last night (we met him there after he got off work with 7 crates of manuals and assorted other things so he could set up his table) and this afternoon (with lunch, since a hot dog there costs $4 and don't even get me started about the $2 3-ounce sodas.. grrrr) Driving is not my favorite thing to do, and driving 35 miles across busy Houston is enough to turn the rest of my hair gray. Blech. So we're glad to be home. :-)

I was on vacation. Did you all miss me? ;-) I took 143 pictures, so consider yourselves forewarned. Oh, yeah, where did I go? Flagstaff, Arizona.
Here is my contribution to the sunsets gallery. Probably the closest town to this is Winslow Arizona. It's pretty close to the middle of nowhere.
It was snowing in Flagstaff when we left this morning. This is the first time I've seen snow falling in over 15 years.

37° and Rising.
It's warmer now than when we were working.
We had the Chiminea fired up all day.
Amazing the amount of heat they put out.
It should hit 55° tomorrow w/ Rain starting around 10AM.
We had a few sprinkles or sleetles today actually.
Here's todays agenda.... sorry if it's too much info but I know Sidney, and a few others, like the details.....
Tthe hard thing about Post and Beam type construction is getting the posts in ...
and in right.
Since this is an expansion and attaching to the House we only had to get one post in.
As it's the corner post that will be holding the header for a 10' sliding door and a 3' walk-in door..... it had to be set in perfectly.
I knew it would be a long process.
We first broke out the form from the pier and backfilled w/ tamped gravel and dirt.
I put a new pressure form around the top of the pier as I was afraid the new concrete would break out from the pressure of the anchor bolts.
It did crack a bit but no biggie.
Then I finished drilling out the mounting brackets I cut yesterday.
Then we mounted the Stainless Steel bottom plate to the 4 x 6 post.
This keeps the wood from contacting the concrete keeping it from rotting and the termites out.
All this took 3 hours....
Then we dry fit the post and marked the bracket holes on the pier.
Drilling the concrete and mounting the brackets actually didn't take too much time.
Our neighbor Jon stopped over to see how it was going.
I grabbed him to help level the post as I anchored it to the brackets.
It leveled up perfectly to the lines and is solid as a rock.
Soooo now we have the final, and most critical, piece of the addition done.
It was very time consuming and doesn't really seem to be worth two 1/2 days worth of work.
But the concrete pier and post are IN!
The rest is just cutting and nailing.
Here's the pier and the brackets and plate I fabricated
Ric
We all have to think of " THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW" ! LOL.
Here you can see the amount of additional room we'll be getting in the Plantroom once we are finished.
This is shot from the Plantroom and shows the Sketter netting we still need to get taken down..........
It will take us from 9 x 13 to 9 x 20 so 63 or so square feet.
As you can see we'll also be about 5' from the Hot Tub instead of 12'.
A BIG difference when it's 20° F outside!!!! LOL!
Ric
hi George~~love the snowy scene; the trees look wonderful.
Deb~~showers in the forecast:) great. Is the blossom recent? Sure looks beautiful.
Marylyn_TX~~too cute~~ complacent puppy, too. Glad you made there and back ok...city traffic would not be fun....
Pepper~~love the view of the trees; what are the ones with the "plume" at the tops?
Kelli ~~ sure look forward to the pictures and narration you'll post. Did you like the snow?
M2K~~congratulations, too, on the math test. I can just picture Jack/JW enjoying each other:))
Ric~~how nice to have so much finished; the precision pays huge dividends..It's going to be so much more room;
Sunset/sunrises sure brightens the long dark. (either mine or yours)
Nearby farmland..taken earlier; same today.
Kiska
Ric - you are killin me but the yard is fantastic.
45° and I hope it rains here soon.
Hey, I'm gonna send all my snow your way now!! :~p
Ric, Kiska and ye' all! We'll try to save some snow for generations to come... Lol
And come early Spring .....
we will save some Flowers for when you are all covered in White.... lol!
Ric
Let's call it a deal!
I like your deal, too, Ric:))
Dark, 18* w/stars out at 6pm. Sunset was 3:44pm. No wind, no snow, just frosty white.
Kelli~great to be able to choose, cold or no cold:)) We were at South Rim GCanyon about 3 years ago in late November, there was frost to scrape off the rental car the next morning; sure surprised us.
At the feeder yesterday.
Kiska
Cute woodpecker. :-)
Most mornings we were in AZ, the temp was in the low 20s, but the dew point was so low that there was no frost. Let me tell you, until yesterday, it was a new dimension in dry out there - much worse than what I experience here. My nose was so irritated that it would bleed. (I've got the worst sinuses.) That doesn't happen to me here.
