Very cute!
DAILY PICS- VOL. 17
Gosh and I was happy to have 3 pairs of Goldfinch, lol.
Just heard our weather report for the next week; dark w/ thundershowers. BooHoo!
Wow, Adel!! I've had 15 before and thought that was a lot, but you have an absolute mob there!!!
Pelle, great photo of the Downy!
HollyAnn - your pics are marvelous whether as close up as you'd like or not.
Lily, love the upside down guys!
Debin, that little Nuthatch is adorable!
I put peanuts out again as the crows seem to be gone and my Steller Jays returned.
He's awesome!! Are they really that blue???
Lance is still one handsome dude!
Lily, the jay is really blue, but I did lighten the photo a tad and do a slight "unsharp mask" which for whatever reason, sharpens things.
Thanks, fchisolm!! I didn't even know about that - will do!
I told Lance the least he could have done was to lose his tail feathers here. I ended up with five f them.
Beautiful pics!
Love your Steller Murmur!
Incredible photo, Dave, no matter what the heck the guy is!!
Adelbercat, truly enjoy all your funny posts!
LOL, here goes the debate. I know what I strongly believe it is. Can't wait for Resins reply.

BTW Beautiful pic Dave!
Hawk looks more like a juvenile BUTLIN than a BUTJAM (these "words" are OK, I promise)
Can't tell the size for sure, but my guess is a Sharp-shinned Hawk
Alright I was going to keep quite and wait but...
Definitely a Coopers Hawk.
pelle... do you think it's big enough for a coopersf?
They can be within 2 inches of each other so I think if your using size as your decision than that could be off especially if its a younger Coopers.
But I love it because I see this Coopers/ Sharp- shinned debate all over different Bird forums.
Okay Old Ned while we're waiting for Resin why don't you share the meanings of your words or abbreviations with the rest of the folks. :-)
Thanks for the kind words Mumur.
Sure....was hoping Resin would weigh in by now and I could claim typos in the likely event that I was wrong on the ID.
There's a fairly new universally accepted set of 4-letters, common-name system for referring to birds...
example: Red-shouldered Hawk is RSHA, Red-tailed is RTHA etc.
The Scientific Name system uses 6 letters:
Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus) is BUTLIN etc.
Thanks Ned! I figured thats what it was but was too lazy to look it up. :-)
Not just size. The brown streaks to me are coarse, but I don't claim to be an expert on hawks.
I'm sorry I wasn't meaning to ignore you adel. I've been looking for an old thread I started here about another way to tell the difference between the Coopers & Sharpie. Darn I can't find it.
based on your info it looks like you are right and it is a Cooper's.
Has anybody seen Resin lately? I haven't at all, but I've also not been able to keep up with all the new threads that may have been started. Hope he's okay - when he's not around I miss his humor as well as his knowledge!
