Another interesting shrub with vertical habit - Rhamnus 'Fine Line' http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&um=1&hl=en&rls=GGLD%2CGGLD%3A2005-14%2CGGLD%3Aen&q=Rhamnus+%27Fine+Line%27. We have the regular Rhamnus f. 'Asplenfolia' which has the same lovely foliage in the gardens and have just recently planted 'Fine Line' in an area where something unique with a vertical accent was needed.

Yikes, I just scrolled back up and realized that this area is really a shade garden - the Junipers will make it, but probably not thrive in those conditions - they prefer full sun :(

It's not a shade garden until that little maple grows up, right? So that might be a good bit in the future...

Busy day today, haven't had a chance to look up the plants yet, but I will. It's a north facing wall and gets only morning sun by about 10:30 or 11:00 the sun has moved around to the other side of the house. Ric started to read this thread and thinks you all have given us a lot of good ideas. He didn't even fuss over the extended stone wall, seems to think it's a good idea.
