I love my historic bearded iris. They are so consistent. Here are a few. Honorabile.

Iris flavescens.

No name blue.

Kashmir.

I just scored a couple of rhizomes of Honorabile that I found growing at the edge of a cemetery over Memorial Day.

this is a President Pilkington hopeful. It has PBF and blooms late in the IB season and continues through the TB season.

Here is a NoID that I think is in the ballpark of Shannopin, but one can never be sure. If anyone has a confirmed Shannopin please D-mail me.

Both wonderful. I remember when historics seemed common to me, but something happened and I started to love them. I traded for some new ones last year. Looks like Demi-Deuil has 3 buds. Can't wait.

I wouldn't stop you!

The owner of the iris garden where I first began my collection has recently decided to go mail order via website. He has many historics (of course if I were an iris I would be an historic one too -- uggh! :S) but many from the 60's-80's. The site is a little pricey, but he has included shipping costs with each iris. But it can be a source of information and photos. www.exlineirisgarden.com

Here's Belle Prairie -- Got a shot of this one once that made is the exact same shade a chocolate milk. This one shows how lighting plays a factor. It's from 1959.

Here's another NoID that I have. I'd describe it as an MTB that is yellow with purple having a yellow edge. Clues? No pbf.

Prinzess Viktoria Luise looks alot like my noid above, I will have to do some research. In 2007, the photo of my NoID shows more purple than pic, I think that shot was taken around the time my camera broke last year.

And this is JACQUESIANA. Very old. I understand this was extremely popular in the late 1800's early 1900's.
Still one of my favorites.
