I am looking for a large plant to grace a corner of my living room. The room is small but we have high ceilings. Not much light...some morning light shines through for about an hour but it is indirect...which l think means that I can't have a living plant to fit the bill. Is this correct? I hate the idea of silk/fake...
Recommended indoor trees for amateurs?
A couple of plants that do real well in low light are the Peace Lily's ... some get quite large and the Parlor Palm ( Neanthe Bella Palm). Here's a link to a list of plants for low light as well as other's that require higher light:

Ficus or palm tree comes to mind. Not sure about the light requirements though. Mine are doing okay with fluorescent lights nearby but then I move them outdoors for summer.
Here's another link for some plants that do well in low light situations, although some of these don't get too tall:

Fantastic resources and lists! Thank you very very much!!!
I think a ficus takes high light. At least the one my Mom has does.

There are so many different Ficus trees, and some take Very High light to full sun. But there are some that will take a lower light situation. I have a Fiddle Leaf Ficus that has been in my Florida Room for a couple of years ... it's very small - only about 24" tall, but it looks good. It gets some light but not a lot.
