Messenger - Immune builder

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Morning!

I don't know if any of you are familiar with a program called The Garden Hotline with Ralph Snodsmith....well I contacted him with regards to a program he did back in the summer of 2004 on Messenger with Jeff I believe it was.

Well he informed me that he is doing an interview with Lisa Bednarski with Eden BioScience on February 18th, 2007 from 9:00 - 10:00 AM EST and you can listen online if you are not able to pick up the radio station WOR 710 HD.

Or you can also download the podcast!

I am so excited about it....I asked Ralph if he is still using Messenger and he said he sure is. So mark your calendars.

Never heard of Messenger, what is it?

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

It's a plant hormone that you can spray on your plants to increase their resistance to disease, etc. Basically, it tricks the plant into thinking it's being attacked by something, so the plant mounts an immune response and grows better, flowers better, etc. If you search the forums, it was discussed several times last year, some people think it really works well and others don't.
Here's some info on it (from the manufacturer):

I love listening to Ralph! Met him several times, a genuine nice guy! Messenger is a harpin protien. Helps to build up a plants defenses.

I have a problem every year with my Taros - white flies - soap does nothing and anything heavier burns the leaves. I wonder if this would help - the product info looks like it prevents disease, but doesn't mention bugs.

Hi there,

Research has shown that harpin has multiple effects and different types of plants respond differently. In some
cases, it enhances plant growth, in other cases it purportedly increases insect and disease resistance

I would give it a go....you can always contact Lisa Bednarski at Eden BioScience and ask her about it. They have a toll free number:

And don't forget Lisa will be interviewed by Ralph Snodsmith on WOR 710 radio from 9-10 AM EST on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007.......you can call into the radio station maybe and ask her as well.
