A wonderful lily adventure

Poland, ME

I am not finding any Madame (Madam) Butterfly in the Lily Registry. Seems like a lot of bulbs don't get registered...

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

There is now also a Dot.Com that is an oriental. Doesn't look anything like the Tango.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

It seems like it all can be very confusing. So I guess I will continue to buy what looks lovely and call it what they say the name is and be happy with what I have. Haven't seen that dotcom oriental. Beak, where did you see it?

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

At a local nursey last summer. I picked up a few potted ones thinking they were the Tangos. Boy, was I surprised when I got home and realized that I had orientals. It really pays to read those little tags that come with the plants. Somehow I never seem to learn that lesson. Can't even remember what it looked like, that's how memorable it was. Maybe I have a picture somewhere.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

If it blooms again for you this year , please post it. In the potted lily frenzy, I have been known to not read as well as I should too ;) You're not alone.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Since when does it pay to read the tags?? Last year I picked up several big Star Gazer bulbs from a local nursery ~ turned out to be Le Reve. Oh well, lovely just the same.

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

I found a picture of the oriental dot.com and it wasn't pink. Hopefully it will look better this season. No wonder I didn't remember it.

For those looking for a last minute Valentine's Gift, for (you or) someone else, don't forget about the Faraway Flowers sale that ends tonight. Can't wait to see these summer flowers. It's one of the things I am most looking forward watching bloom.
Just a little enabling, while the gettin' is good ;0)

I am wondering if any of you have Purple King in your gardens? I am trying to decide if I like it...

Mainiac about how tall is it in that photo? Very nice looking, more pink than purple but still very nice...

Thank you

Poland, ME

The fence behind it is four feet tall. This was spring planted last year so shorter than normal. Probably four feet.

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Registered & unregistered with 2-3 names for the same lily. Seems a bit messy to me.

Mainiac...does it have a fragrance? That's what I'm after.

Poland, ME

To be perfectly honest, I don't recall but given that it is an OT, I don't know it could not have a fragrance. Both Trumpets and orientals are fragrant. I will ask someone who might know///

I am told that Purple King's fragrance more closely resembles a trumpet than an Oriental. I find Trumpets are usually highly fragrant!

Hi,
Through a series of fortunate events :*) I was able to order a small amount. My only pink asiatic came down with a virus and had to be put down :*( So I wanted to try a couple pinks that were listed. I like the bright color and the form of Socrates. I wanted Madame for the back of a flower bed, so I picked that for it's height and the pale pink will go nicely with a couple other lilies.
Also my dear mum doesn't have any lilies so I am going to give her a Socrates and a few others from the PNWL sale (SilkRoad, Bali Hai,Eurydice). She doesn't have any flowers that are more than a couple inches across, so these should be a nice change!

-Salmon Star
-Socrates
-Madame Butterfly (pink)

Vernal equinox is only 19 days away, wooooohooooooo!

Glad you got to order some beauties. Spring is just around the corner. Nice choices , Andrew.

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Okay. I give up! Spring fever struck me today, So I ordered from Lily Pad + B&D. Mostly trumpets--that's what I'm short on. Quick someone intervene and hide my credit card before I toast it!

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

We can just give it to your husband. I'm sure there is something chrome that needs to go on that harley. :) LOL!!

It's the toughest time of year to get through. Patiently awaiting spring (or impatiently, as in my case) and you just get desperate for color. I see these southern threads talking about what's in their stores and what they are planting. As much as I enjoy reading it, a part of me is envious.
I keep looking at this tree peony on a site that keeps haunting me (must have, must have, must have). What I am saying is, I can relate , Wanda.
Faraway Flowers cut off date is coming upon us soon, so that's my first sign that spring is coming..... Can't wait to get my paws on those bulbs. Also ordered from B & D, back in December.
Looking so forward to the "thaw".

Thaw? Thaw? Where? I only see ice around me. Apparently I am not alone in my Spring fever. 73 Master Gardeners showed up for my talk on "Growing Bearded iris in Iowa" last night. All of them were dazed & crazed when I got done with them. LOL Why be an "enabler' on a small scale when I can wipe out a whole room in one hour?

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

WOW! Look at those garden pics. Nice....

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

How come my pics never look that good!?!

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Wrong Camera , wrong photographer or wrong garden?

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I'd say that garden goes a looong way in providing great pics.

Ah, come on , Beak, your pix are great.

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

Not as great as those.

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Poor Moby will probably get LOTS of surprises this spring & summer as the garden we moved for her sees real SUN for the first time. :)

Fox River Valley Are, WI(Zone 5a)

You guys didn't play any tricks on her, did you? :*)

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Oh, yes, Moby's new beginning. I can't wait to see all of those sunny plants in their glory. She did *promise* us pictures and lots of them. It won't be long now....

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

I think the iris & daylilies will do enough tricks for us. We put them in late, but it sounds like Mother Nature is drenching them pretty good this spring.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Have to admit that I'm kinda biting my nails until I see what made the transition.....

Elkhart, IA(Zone 5a)

Moby, with all those fabulous gardeners helping with the move I'm sure it's going to be stunning! Mobys plants are going to be shocked to finally have some sun and my shade bed is going to be sun shocked after mother nature did some major prunning on our trees. : (

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Oh, no! That's a bummer.

I fully expect to lose a few plants. Certainly not due to those fabulous and stunningly beautiful gardeners, but transplanting in November sure wasn't by choice.

On a happy note, Spring is here!

Oh Moby!!!! I'm so jealous!!!! That is so beautiful!! Me, on the other hand, has a flooded lower pasture.... The water be rising pretty fast....

Let's hope it stays 'down there'. Eeek

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Oh no, it is fine... it's just a little crick, not even a creek. :) Sometimes in the summer it drys up to barely a trickle. Right now, however, it's raging two and three feet deep. As soon as the frost goes out of the ground everything will settle down..
