Hardy Sugar Cane :)

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6a)

Saccharum arundinaceum

It's barely hardy here where I am. I almost dug it up a few years ago when it looked like it only had a few blades still alive in spring. It sure is nice when it does well though. Looks a lot like ravenna grass (which it's planted next to).

Not sugar cane, but I LOVE the head of hair on this miscanthus!

This is a shot from a little earlier this season. The sugar cane is on the left and the miscanthus with the nice hair is on the right.

Gorgeous stuff, hczone6! You obviously have more space than I do.

Saccharum arundinaceum looks like Ravenna Grass because it;s closely related. Rav has recently been moved from the Erianthus genus to the Saccharum genus. Gotta love those taxonomists!

I have a small clump of S. arundinaceum that I got from PDN this spring, and is about 4 ft high right now..... It would have been bigger if it wouldn't have been cut back for shipping... Hopefully it will get some size to it next year....

Wonderful pictures again this year, Jon! Thank you!
