Need Help With ID

(Zone 1)

Hey:

Hope someone can help me figure out what this plant is. It's one of my rescue's from Wal-Mart's garden center clearance table a couple of years ago. Only paid $1.00 for it because it was almost totally gone and the clerk didn't know what it was, or what to charge. They just wanted to take it from me and throw it in a reject bin (trash in other words). I told them I WANTED to buy it ... so for a buck I didn't think I could go wrong if it croaked! Well, I did nothing, except re-pot with fresh clean soil and water it. I keep it in the shade, bright light .... once it had little tiny white flowers. Still have no idea what type plant it is. Hope someone can ID it for me.

Thanks,
Lin

Looks like ledebouria socialis 'Silver Squill'.
You did a wonderful job growing them, beautiful & healthy.

I believe it's a Ledebouria socialis (SPOTTED SQUILL). Did a great job of rescuing it! I'm surprised that Walmart would let you have it for less. Ours won't let it go at all.

Thanks Guys for the ID .... I printed out some info on it! I'm going to start the process of trying to ID all of my plants and put the ID's and photo's together in a folder.

Oh, by the way .... anyone know of where to find any type of plant markers .... those little thingies where you write the name on it and stick it in the soil with the plant?

Thanks,

LIn

Hey PerennialGirl: I was surprised that they let me buy it too ... found some bulbs there one time, unmarked and they wouldn't sell them .... she said they had to put them in the back since they weren't marked as to what they were and no price on them! I guess I lucked out with that particular clerk at Wal-Mart on the day I found my "Silver Squill"!

You definitely lucked out! Must have been your lucky day!! The plant tags you can usually find at Home Depot, Walmart, etc. or you can cut old veneitan blinds and use those.

Donna:

Thanks for the info .... I have lots of plants I need to tag!

Lin, If you use cut up venetian blinds, sharpies will fade. Try a "paint pen" sold at hobby stores, auto parts stores, etc. The paint will be permanent in the heat/sun.

Thanks Pod! Will do!
