Rooting gel with fungicide

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

I used to use Wilson's rooting gel w/ fungicide but they only have it in a very small size, it's expensive and I have a very hard time finding it here in the US b/c it's Canadian. But I got near 100% sucess with it and I love the stuff.

Can anyone recommend a substitute?

Thanks for that great site! They look like they have a lot of interesting products. I know I'll be spending more than the 8.50!

P.S. I also like that it roots woody growth, Wilson wasn't listed to.

CaptMicha, I noticed the other day when I did a flat of cuttings with Wilson that it does list doing "softwood and hardwood cuttings." I was surprised so I guess I'll try it.

Oh good to know because I do cuttings of both!!!! Thank you.

They have really good products in my opinion.

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Yeah, I agree but I am never sure what product is the right product. That's why it's nice to get info from someone who has used a product like coyote urine.

I've used several of their rooting products--which reminds me I need to look thru their catalog--am down to 'run of the mill' rooting hormone, right when I have the time to root stuff.

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

so it is as I suspect, gel is better than my brand, "Run o the Mill"--LOL!!!!!!!!!HAHAHAH!

I use whatever rooting powder I have on hand. Me thinks the secret is making the hole for the stem in the rooting medium before putting it in and then pushing the dirt against the stem. I use polymer Watersorb crystals in the potting soil, but couldn't root in it. You will have sturdier roots if you use a fresh potting soil.

You know you could be right sidney, I am lazy and often just push the cutting right into the soil, I am sure a fair amount of the powder comes off the end- and of course I reuse soil like crazy, even though I know that I shouldn't - but dang it I run out so quickly- I am just going to have to buy larger amounts, but where to store the stuff????oh heck my DH doesn't need to park the car in the garage! and my kids need to move out. LOL.
On the AV forum some folks have been having lots of success rooting AVs w/o loosing so many to rot, in those crystals- I will have to get some, I think a lot of the answer w/ cuttings is the consistant moisture and those crystals have got to help!

Here's your source; http://watersorb.com/prices.htm the best for less, even with postage cheaper than any in stores and a non profit organization.

My 'high tech' method is push a pencil down to make a whole then put the cutting in--lol

run of the mill is good enough for most things April--Charleys has a product I really like for tougher things like shrubs--give me a minute and I'll get ya a link.

called snip and dip if link doesn't work:

Good, I need something for those harder to root. Seems some of my success in the past was just dumb luck! Now that I am trying seems I need more than luck.
Thanks for the link Deb!

I don't know if I'll get any responses since this is so old but the Dip 'N' Grow doesn't have fungicides.

New York & Terrell, TX(Zone 8b)

See what it says on this page: http://www.charleysgreenhouse.com/index.cfm?page=_productdetails&productid=8102&cid1=175&cid2=423&cid3=-99

8102 Dip-N-Grow 2 oz.

This concentrated rooting hormone solution is highly effective for woody ornaments or difficult to root cuttings, as well as soft wood cuttings. Dilutes with water to desired strength. The liquid form saves time by allowing cuttings to be bunched and dipped. Dip-N-Grow contains both anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agents to keep plants healthy. Expect to treat more than 1,000 cuttings per ounce. Includes dilution bottle and instructions. Active ingredients: Indole-3 Butyric Acid (1%), 1 Napthaleneacetic Acid (1/2%). 2 oz.

Has anyone tried their "clonex"?

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Is there a spray fungicide that is good to use after the cuttings have been stuck in the rooting medium?

Looks like the Dip-n-grow can also be purchased directly from their site: http://www.dipngrow.com/
