Peak of the Iris Season

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Last week was the peak of the Iris season in my garden. I'm finally getting around to downloading some of the photos of the tall bearded ones. About half of them bloomed for the first time this year and what a joy it was to see those new beauties! Here is part of my back Iris bed. In the back are Princess Bride, Red Hawk, and Return Address. In front, Hot Spiced Wine, Ocean Pacific, Splash of Raspberry and Return Address.

Susan

Here is a close up of Return Address. I really like it.

Supreme Sultan, an old favorite. Always really large blooms.

Princess Bride. I'm undecided about this one. The blooms are rather short and dumpy looking, but it does seem to have a high bud count. Cute in it's own way.

Orange Blossom Special. Lovely creamey orange.

Fjord. Nice light blue.

The Iris in my front bed are all ones I've had awhile; The lavender with varigated leaves is pallida, the purple and white one is Stepping Out and the yellow and white one is Wedding Frills.

This one I think may be my favorite. Xanthippe's Halo.

The same area from the other end. This is Splashacato in the front, with Millenium Falcon behind it. They are so much alike in color that I need to move one.

Hot Spiced wine is not a large flower, but is a great very saturated color of reddish wine.

This is a planting of Siberian Iris that are at the top of a waterfall in the park across the street from me.

And my very dirty dog sitting in front of the waterfall.

Sun Power. A very small bright yellow one. May be small because it's not in the best location.

A better one of Trillion.

Those are really beautiful, Susan. You have a great collection. Glad I strayed from the daylily forum and discovered them.

Thanks Don! I just got a new camera and finally figured out to download it, so I have a lot to post. I like Iris almost as much as daylilies. This is Romatic Evening.

Oh Susan - what a wonderful garden you have!! It makes me a little homesick for Lincoln to see your pictures. We lived there for about 5 years back in the 80's. You must have the prettiest garden in town. Thanks to your pictures and lots of other Dave's iris posters, I now have about 50 iris ordered for late summer and am working feverishly on getting their beds ready lol!

McGregor, IA(Zone 4b)

What a lovely rainbow of blooms! You must have the prettiest devil's strip in town!
I like the way Princess Bride photographs with a slight greenish center. A nice contrast to your others, IMHO.

I looked at the photos again and realized that I had Sonata in Blue and Ocean Pacific mixed up. Think I got the names right now. This one is the real Sonata in Blue.
